Also while they won't send them all down now (we still have 4 games left) I think its safe to say that the 2nd and 3rd pairs from tonight are not even close to contending for a roster spot.

Hajek looked like a f***ing God compared to those 4 and he wasn't particularly good either.

Vesey and Rydahl should make this team. Carpenter is a bonehead but he’s got a contract. Credit to all the roster bubble guys playing back to back and traveling same day to Boston. Kravtsov was better but still looks behind. I’m dead serious when I say AHL games would really help him. Oh well, he’s here so hopefully he gets up to speed quick. Hopefully the Lafreniere injury is nothing

Vesey and Jones should be on this roster. Hunt, Hajek and Gauthier have had their shot and failed. Wouldn't hate Hajek being the 7th D. Hunt and Gauthier can get their shit together in Hartford. Role with a 22 man roster. Carpenter vs Rydahl is probably not a big deal, whatever. Othmann looked pretty good as well but Blais/Kravstov are c_blocking him.

Go with 23. I dont see why they cant do that. if Othmann keeps playing like the 1st game, he will be on this team. With his skill, and attitude his cockiness will help.

Blais will be in the top 9. People seem to be tossing him on the 4th line.

I think the team may envision him as a Trouba at forward with the big hits. He had some bone crunching ones before the injury last year. Decent hands. Would help Kreider/Mika get some more open ice. Could lead to more injuries though

It’s crazy to me that people think Vesey has been good.

He has been spoon fed opportunity mostly with NHL regulars.

He still forces dumb shot after dumb shot from the side of the net. Limited vision. Limited forecheck ability. Classic case of a guy who buzzes around a lot so people think he looks good yet rarely creates anything actually of value with the puck.
Yet he's been better than Carpenter, Hunt, probably Reaves who we have not seen, yet in terms of actual play outside of hitting/fighting.

I'm not big Vesey fan, yet as a 4th liner he would be better than most of their other options.

Jokes aside, in a game where everyone looked from "meh" to "bad" Kravy was one of the better skaters. Halak looked good and Robertson made a few good reads. That's about it.
My assessment as well, Robertson with some nice rub outs too.

I’m sure 99% of the board would disagree with me but I would take Hunt over Vesey in a 4th line role. Hunt fits that role much better.

Vesey is better suited in top 9 but as rosters spots, if one spot left I take Vesey over Hunt. I like Rydahl so far. He seems like a good bottom 6. I hope Rangers will have features on him when he makes the team. He seems intriguing. 28 why now. Like teams weren’t interested in him in his early 20s. I wonder why he choose the Rangers. I wonder if other teams had interest.

Is that you Hunt?
Seriously , I’m curious as to what you like about Hunt’s game? He is mediocre to below average in every category for an NHL’r.
Hunt has been a non factor at best.

4th line will be Goodrow/Rydahl/Carpenter with Reeves as designated cheerleader. Gauthier will be picked from waivers, Hunt will be in HFD, and Vesey who cares really. We’ll also pick up a 750k 3LD off waivers if Jones is shaky. There Training camp over.

Start the year with:

Zib - Kreider - Kravtsov
Panarin - Trochek - Blais
Kid line
Othmann (9 game stint) - Goodrow - Vesey (750 k)

Reaves as #13
Gauthier as #14

Waive Hunt, Carpenter, Rydahl, Brodzinski and have them all as callups. Damn good depth. Deal Gauthier for a pick when teams start dropping and/or get injuries (after Othmann returns to juniors). Leaves ~930 k in space

I’m kinda meh about the 4th line as well. Goodrow will be our only overachiever at 3.6 mil on the 4th. Unless Blais gets a demotion. We are otherwise overmatched by the likes of Tampas 4th line.

Unlike the Islanders game, last night there were alot of guys that were invisible.

Just don't recall seeing much from anyone that is scratching and clawing to make the team aside from Vesey.

I'd like at least SOME production from the 4th line and Hunt doesn't offer that.

Vesey does and he can kill penalties.

I've been taught that any shot on net that makes the goalie work is a good shot.

This has been echoed by one of the greatest head coaches in the world in AL Arbour.

Vesey may take bad angle shots, but the goalie has to work and often times leads to faceoffs in the o-zone

I don't see that as necessarily a bad thing.

Vesey as a top 9 forward?? We are talking about the guy who the Devils said was not good enough for them, whose already had multiple NHL chances?? Please, he should be the 13th forward at best so he can rot in the sky boxes rather than letting him destroy any line he plays with. He’s looked slightly better than a bunch of AHL Bound players in his first 2 preseason games- or essentially exactly what he is, a tweener between the NHL and AHL. Comical overestimate of his skill set to imply he should be anywhere near the top 9 forwards.

Salary cap. We can technically fit 23 players, but we'd only have about 2k in cap space left. Cap needs to be saved as much as possible for the trade deadline. The roster will be 22 players.
