Whoever picks up Chiarot, it's for a playoff run and someone with experience and trust/physically where he can really cause trouble for other teams forwards. What you see in the regular season does not equal the same in the playoffs for many players. Reality.
Not to mention that it's all too easy to lose 3+ defenseman to injuries during a run (or any time, speaking from experience as a Bruins fan)

I can see why they do it and why they don't do a move like that because of the bold. You don't want to be completely devoid for many years, but if there is no non-rental leaving Montreal, the team has next to no cap room next year. On top of that, if the thought is that they don't have a shot at competing, will they want to spend as much as they are. Gotta cut costs. Dvorak would be like dealing Tofolli, good term, good player, contenders will pay for that.

Montreal has more cap room now that they've traded Toffoli. They have in the 7-9 mil range to fill out their roster and only Lehkonen (and maybe Romanov) which will command anything over a million.

I'd do Dvorak for a 1st and Kravstov. The Rangers shouldn't though. They should try (and pay) to get Lehkonen. He'd cover the Rangers weaknesses like an absolute glove and wont be as expensive against the cap.

rangers fans better hope they go for JT Miller, before you guys end up with Chariot instead.

Especially if the 1st is involved in any way.

He might get a 1st because GM's are silly, but this idea that he's someone a much different player than he was in Winnipeg isn't accurate.

Well he was already good his last year in Winnepeg playing alongside Byfuglien.
Advanced stats don't really work with players like him and Weber, specially when it comes to playoffs hockey. Heck, Kulak is a good player according to advanced stats...

Offense along does not win in the playoffs. See the Avs, Leafs, Oilers as an example. Complete teams who can roll lines, have a good PP/PK, and goaltending/team D does. If you think young players on D will be studs in the playoffs when you face Tampa or other top end teams, you are not thinking straight.

Tampa paid a 1st for Savard for good reason. They knew they needed more muscle on the back end. Now the Rangers are not close like Tampa was so if you say no to that type of narrative, I can respect that

Cant see either habs players being traded.
They are young enough to be part of the rebuild.

I think we could move Dvorak but Anderson requires pry away value.

Anderson helps our youth via protection and he fits our culture moving forward. Signed long term through prime years.

Dvorak helps other teams more than he does with the Habs. Dvorak is a decent middle 2C who is drowning in Montreal

Should be something around Lehkonen for Kravtsov, Lundkvist, Jones (one of the three, not all at once)

MTL dont have the players to make NY talk about Schneider or Othmann.
There is absolutely no way NYR moves Nils or Jones for a bottom-6 rental. Kravtsov? Maybe, and that's a pretty large maybe considering he's still valued highly by Drury. Realistically expect it to be a 2nd+ someone like Barron or Cuylle for Lehkonen

Clearly not what The rest of the league and especially Chiarot (see his interviews) think

Montreal apparently wants prospects, not picks.
So How about Lehkonen for Gauthier (1st rounder acquired by trade), Henriksson and Lindbom? The later Two being quite recent second round picks made by Jeff Gorton himself as the NYR GM.

I'm pretty sure those aren't the players or prospects Montreal would be looking at for Lehkonen. Like at all. The ask is a 1st for him.

It's been mixed up a couple times in this thread, worth noting.

Lehkonen is an RFA and not a rental. This is a long-term move for an exceptional defensive player that can play on either wing, up and down the lineup, and on the PK. Gritty, disruptive, reliable, and a very strong playoff performer for us. He's not going to break the bank on his next contract either. You'd be hard pressed to find a better secondary player.

The Dreger quote is ”Montreal would rather add prospects over picks.”

It's LeBrun, not Dreger.

It's also been reported that Montreal wants a Coleman/Goodrow type return to move Lehkonen.

Even if they prefer prospects over pucks, it seems unlikely they'd want prospects that are trending as poorly as they are. Gauthier does nothing for Montreal and neither are even close top 10 prospects for the Rangers. That's not a 1st equivalent.
