Not really. Vatanen is signed to a longer contract, and is still very desirable.

You're trying to over-simplify in your attempt to mock him.

I mean it's logic that the better player would cost more. I don't have anything bad to say about either player.

Yet love Ryan Mcdonagh..

Mcdonagh had mediocre corsi because of Girardi. Its a fact. It has been alot better than Girardi´s corsi and they have played alot together. Girardi has been one of the biggest anchors in the league. Whenever he gets away from Girardi his corsi skyrockets. 56 cf% so far this season and his d-partner Holden is extremely average...

All things being equal, yes.

It's when you factor in other things that this isn't the case. Some GM's will be more willing to spend on a more offensive guy like Vatanen. Others might be more interested in Fowler's overall game. Vatanen has more term, and Fowler will be a UFA in two years. The upcoming expansion draft, I think, puts an exclamation point on that.

If Fowler were locked up for 4 years, I'm confident he would get a better return. Of course, if he were locked up for 4 years, on a good contract, he may not even be available. As it is, his availability is probably already in question.

Did we get Fowler yet? Is he in the lineup tonight vs the Wings?

I'm guesing we will have a ton of our people there... I know the wings have inquired bout our dmen also so we will likely be watching both teams tonight.

Fowler regardless of how good or bad he is doesn't make sense for us. He'd have to be flipped for a RHD. If its not Vats I don't see a trade that fits unless we plan on eating Stoner's contract and getting a good prospect with him.

McDonagh has one partner he sucks with. One. Fowler is approaching double digits.

And nobody is more critical of McDonagh than I am, and I do think he's a little overrated by some people.

Ya McD has definitely played with people like:

Toni Lydman (way past prime)
Kevin Bieksa (way past prime)
Sheldon Brookbank
Andreas Lilja
Ben Lovejoy
Paul Mara

And yet he can't find one partner he works with. Not one. And it's always the other guy's fault.

And Ben Lovejoy is a very good possession player, BTW.

Fowler and Lovejoy were actually a pretty good pairing, but as you know Lovejoy is not made to play 20+ minutes a game. He plays best in a range of 12-16 with PK duties.

The misuse of stats continues.

And yet, so many GM's are reported to want Fowler. Go figure. Clearly, it's because they are stupid, and don't know better.

It absolutely isn't because they actually watch him, regularly, and know him to be a good defenseman.

It's not a "Ranger fan thing" to hate Fowler... It's just a select few, once again with the hasty generalizations

I actually watch a lot of ANH (mainly because it seems like I always get Getzlaf in fantasy and have NHL.TV but anyway)

Fowler is a solid defenseman, decent 2 way game with good offensive ability. He is a solid defenseman, no doubt about it.

That being said, most Ranger fans are pointing out that LHD is not a pressing need. The Rangers have McDonagh, they have Skjei, they have Staal (who actually hasn't looked dreadful thus far) and they have Graves coming up. LHD is fine. RHD is the need. How does Girardi Klein Clendening McIlrath look in comparison? That is why the push for Vatanen and the continuous posts claiming non-interest in Fowler - team need, not skillsets

At least IMO

Dude, come on. You concede nothing, and extreme opinions are almost always rooted in some emotional response.

Cam has warts, is not a number one dman, and is probably mentally soft.

He isn't close to what you say he is either.

He led the league leading goals against team in ice time.

Not one? Not once? Not nothing has worked? Not ever?

You're nuts.

They need forwards. If Miller + for Vatanen is ever on the table you take that and run. We have a million forwards and a golden retriever would be like 3rd on our RHD depth chart

You mean this kid? Amazing prospect.

if it was JT Miller for Vats would have been done LONG AGO

JT goes nowhere unless a package and Hanifin returned

the deal is either

a) Zuc for Vats, straight up
with an optional side deal of various prospects/cap dumps etc as a back scratch to help Ducks get cap relief, assuming not a massive, but a decent bribe to Rangers to do so.

or

b) something with a core of McDonagh for Theodore AND Montour
small adds
leaves room for separate direct deal for Zuc
or 3 way
or Ducks, w/McD upgrade on Fowler, to shop Fowler on the open market
