The fact that salaries are skyrocketing in a flat cap league is an issue but it's an issue every team has to deal with.

Tbh, 4.5 probably *is* with correction.

He's a big, versatile player that just won two Cups.

Dave Bolland is/was a worse player and signed for $5.5m seven years ago. In today's dollars, that's like $8m.

And yet that’s a lifetime ago in an NHL with a flat cap. We’ll see. From what I’ve seen from Drury so far, he’s methodical. He built a lot of trust so far… so I’m willing to give him that leash.

I don’t want to go into it too much more, but I’m not surprised. I guess I pissed someone off. The restriction was lifted fairly quickly so I guess whoever that was who did that got overruled. Been here 11 years now, not an insider at all just a passionate fan for 27 years. No worries, carry on.

From what I read in the meantime, there were deals not completed. Hopefully a #2 C for Buch(even though I hate losing him). Imagine if we did that Dallas deal for Kreider and still had Buch. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.

It's not hindsight with Kreider, at least for me.

And if you are being interacted for not "toeing the line" I guess I soon will also be getting in some trouble.

It's all Jonathan Toews' fault. He and Kane were the first players to get eye-popping contracts. Now Toews makes $10.5m and half the league is better than him.

Any elite player can now point to Toews and demand $10.5 as a starting point. "I'm better than that guy." With the elite players making that, it has a domino effect of each rung below them demanding more. As a second liner, you're saying "well, if the top guys are making $10-12m, I deserve $7-8m."

And you know what? Teams are paying it. They didn't expect covid. And salary demands aren't just going to drop on a dime.

The NHL is headed for crisis in the foreseeable future where dozens of good players end up out of work.

Baseball had such a crisis a couple of years ago due to them using nuclear balls and every Joe Grabbyass being able to hit 20 homers. Multiple quality players spent half the year not playing and finally had to settle for peanuts.

LOL the guy kept saying that we should ban Rick Carpiniello as someone who could be cited on this board, which was just taking a thread OT despite being told this was absurd. And this was like...a few hours ago.

Seems I can reply again after a mod decided to revoke my ability to post because I questioned Carp’s 4.5m number. It better not be that high, and doubt it is. Anyway, Drury’s moves so far give me hope. Keep it going :)

you continually asked for a beat writer to be banned as a source. An incredibly stupid comment.

I guess I missed that whole thing.

You continuously derailed a thread by asking for a beat writer to be banned.

I feel like we are gonna get through the drafts and a beat writer is gonna ask Drury what’s up with Goodrow and he’ll be like “oh yeah we signed him like a week ago”

If his info is trash, shouldn’t it be treated as such?

I digress, maybe just maybe, Drury isn’t paying Goodrow 4.5m a year for 5 years. We’ll see how this holds up.

Still wondering about these rumors of other deals in the works.

Vince's article today, he said he thinks the Goodrow deal will be $4M+.

"It sounds like it's going to take a five- or six-year deal, but the average annual value guesses are all over the place. I can tell you it won't be in the $2 million-to-$3 million range some fans are hoping for. My sense is $4 million per season, give or take, which is a significant contract for a bottom-six player."

NY Rangers expansion draft: What to make of Barclay Goodrow, others

I've seen this general structure repeated several other places. Maybe it ends up bogus, but a lot of people are getting the same info on it.

Where is Gauthier playing on the 5th line Rw?
I think we have a few top sixers potentially getting moved and I hope Kreider plays on the third line. Also injuries. So I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that a top six spot opens up and having an inexpensive guy with upside is never a bad thing.

Agent leaks a number and the echo chamber echoes. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets it though.

If that’s the cost, then who knows. I’ll just say, given the fact the two trades weren’t reported, nor the expansion list, we can’t assume anyone has sources currently. We have nothing out of the FO. Maybe the way Drury likes it.

Yes, played center in SJ, mostly on the wing in tampa though.

I think the Brandon Tanev contract sets the bar here at 6 years x 3.5m per. Bare in mind that this was a pre-covid/flat cap contract so that will of course have an impact.

I didn't read this but I just posted almost this exact comment in the Roster Building Thread. My sense is that he gets a 6 year deal @ $3.3m per season.

Something to keep in mind, more than likely by years 2-3-4 the cap will begin increasing again and when it does, it should shoot up quickly.

Free agency is a week away. Why would he sign here early and miss out on a potential bidding war? Seems like we will be overpaying him.

Before teams acquire UFA rights, they usually touch base with the player to see if there's mutual interest.

And of course he was part of our prospect camp 9 years ago, so that might play into it a little bit, being familiar with the organization to a degree.

Because maybe the Rangers are at the top of his list and he wants to come here knowing the situation he is coming into with all the young talent and he may take slightly less if he thinks he can win another cup in the future.
