Morgan Barron now has someone who he can watch and learn from to help him carve out a long NHL career. Those two big boys on a line have the makings of a VERY good and physical line.
If Gauthier makes it through expansion, he's another guy who would benefit from Goodrow's example (in addition to Gallant's coaching), IMO.

So what is the deal right now - since he’s a UFA to be and the Rangers own his rights, only they and Seattle are able to negotiate with him until 7/28? And if Seattle selects him on Wednesday, only they are able to negotiate with him for the week they own his rights? But, since there is a roster freeze, even if he agrees to terms with the Rangers, they can’t formally sign him until Thursday?

Correct.

While watching the playoffs the comparable player that kept standing out to me as a model for the way Gauthier needs to play is Josh Anderson. I know a lot of people want him to play more like kreider but I just don't see that. Anderson seems like much more of a projection for what his skill set fits

You win when you have guys like this not taking up your salary cap. If we overpay for him it defeats the purpose somewhat. With Barron and Gauthier I don't think this was a needed move. If you could get Gourde that is a different story.
You offset his salary in this situation by not constantly caving on second contracts of players coming off ELC and giving them UFA style contracts. We have to take advantage of the young tale that we have here while they are still cost controlled and the organization has some semblance of control over them. Everybody kept saying that the goodrow ype players are super easy to find but they just aren't, not the effective ones that really make a difference. There's a reason why Coleman and goodrow cost first-round picks in trades

Let's see what he gets paid I suppose but he and Coleman also had great contracts which helped with the return.

You hit the nail on the head with this one brother. Even if we overpay a little for Goodrow, now Barron has someone to practice/ prepare like, emulate his play after, and lean on when he goes thru his rookie struggles. Barron has a way better shot then Goodrow and will hopefully provide more offense, but this is a move that will pay dividends. And he’s not the only young guy that’s going to benefit from Goodrows presence on the roster.
This is a savvy first move from Drury, I gotta say, color me optimistic

I questioned Carp’s 4.5m number. It better not be that high, and doubt it is. Anyway, Drury’s moves so far give me hope. Keep it going :)

yea, I’m on the side of that being too high. A front loaded deal for over 4 years and I’d be the number is closer to 3-3.25. Maybe 3.5 for 6 but even then I’m not sure

Disclaimer: I'm not saying I would do the rumored $4m.

That being said, $4m is nothing. Second liners make $7-8m. You guys really need to reboot your mental salary caps.

Salaries have doubled since the last time the Rangers contended.

Rumor was 4.5, and now we have a flat cap. I suspect we’ll see some correction. I think the idea we traded for his rights means Drury is comfortable with a)resigning him, and b)the contract terms.

I didn’t either, considering it was related to the potential cap cost. Oh well lol. Just don’t want us going too high on cap. But I def am ok with term. Stability helps.

I've always suspected there are some Ranger employees and players agency underlings who post here, just did not think that was also part of the moderation.

The fact that salaries are skyrocketing in a flat cap league is an issue but it's an issue every team has to deal with.

Tbh, 4.5 probably *is* with correction.

He's a big, versatile player that just won two Cups.

Dave Bolland is/was a worse player and signed for $5.5m seven years ago. In today's dollars, that's like $8m.

I don’t want to go into it too much more, but I’m not surprised. I guess I pissed someone off. The restriction was lifted fairly quickly so I guess whoever that was who did that got overruled. Been here 11 years now, not an insider at all just a passionate fan for 27 years. No worries, carry on.

From what I read in the meantime, there were deals not completed. Hopefully a #2 C for Buch(even though I hate losing him). Imagine if we did that Dallas deal for Kreider and still had Buch. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.
