The article is totally fantastical and really strains credulity. Having no clue about the source, however, I thought I'd share.

And that Jets thread is gold.
Any time any player uses any bit of the tiny amount of leverage they’re allowed in the CBA, fans of that team essentially start calling for players to have no rights at all

Ok so I gotta ask guys like @Edge @bobbop @Amazing Kreiderman @RangerBoy what are the odds that Trouba signs long term here? I have a buddy of mine in Michigan and he keeps fighting with me all day saying he has inside info that Trouba will only sign with Detroit and he’s coming home. This guy also told me way before that Stevie Y was coming home as well. I’ve been arguing all day with him about the likelihood of Trouba signing long term here. Help a brotha out.

Your buddy is delusional.

And sign Panarin.

I know all this talk about Florida; but with Fox basically saying he wanted to come to NY or bust, and now that tweet back up a couple pages where it leaked that Trouba's list of teams he'd accept a trade to was "not 10 or 5... but 1 or 2 [teams]".... I mean, things are rolling our way.

I have to believe that everyone wants to be in NY right now. Come on down, Panarin.

He didnt have a no trade clause right? So what does it matter what team he wanted to go to, they could have traded him anywhere.

Agree. Even if it doesn't work out, they still have him for a year.

What amazes me is Hayes got a better return as a TDL rental than Trouba got for a full year. Worst case if it doesn't work out, he gets shipped out this TDL recouping what we gave up.

*Recouping better than what we gave up to get him.

Probably, but doubt they will trade him so doesn't matter anyway.

Regardless, I was worried Trouba would have commanded much more going back and was never really interested. Can't argue with this trade though. Wonder what contract he's looking for.

Another very important thing we may have overlooked - Trouba didnt land in NJ or with the Islanders who were also hot for him. Who knows if they were on the list but they are near NYC so it may have been palatable for him and his fiancé

Teams are less likely to trade a lot for a player they don't think they can sign.
But there are rumors all over that teams had better offers on the table for him than the Ranger's offer. So that wasn't stopping teams in wanting him for a year. So i don't understand how that was handcuffing the jets to take a lower offer.

It shouldn't have been, you're right. I think the Jets feel they accepted the best offer, other teams disagree.

Friedman put out a theory, but I can't follow the plot.

One thing about Winnipeg is that they have drafted in the 1st every year since their move back, with the exception of last season.

They really thought they were going to make another run. Can't really blame them either. A goal in the dying seconds of game 5 and then losing the next game on the road. Right on out. They did struggle in the 2nd half of last season.

Thing is, they need 1st rounders. As we have been seeing, they don't get big name players to sign there. They have to trade for them or draft them. You wonder, the teams in on Trouba, if the Rangers offered the highest 1st rounder. Obviously 20 has more value than lower picks. Chevy likely sees Pionk as a young roster player, maybe 3rd pairing right now, that could be a 2nd pairing type.

Did other teams offer a 23 year old roster player? I'd like to say no. We know Pionk was bad. A lot of other teams did too, but the Jets didn't. So the Jets get a young roster player, in a premium position (RHD) and a 1st

So he wants a one year deal first?

Annoying...
If he does, Gorts has to trade him.

Haven't seen anything about that though. Hopefully he is willing to sign long term here. We have a lot of upcoming talent and a desirable location to be a millionaire.

I realize you're trying to rationalize a relatively irrational scenario, but if the Jets didn't do their homework on Pionk, and valued him highly enough to trade one of their best assets for peanuts, then shame on them.

Maurice is an AV like coach. He plays his favorites to the detriment of the team. This was evident with how they wasted Hayes, much in the same way that Yandle was wasted here.

The whole management structure on that team is garbage and they aren't going anywhere until the owner starts firing some of his minions.

Also, this directly contradicts what your friend is saying. This isn't a scenario where he is just trying to say the right things. You don't say something like that unless you mean it.

Why is this such a given?
A top pair defenseman at the deadline to help a team in the playoffs is getting a kings ransom. Whether or not he is going to stay with that team after the playoffs. A 2nd line center at the deadline brought back more than we paid for Trouba.

Why is this such a given?

Unless he gets injured, he should be able to bring back a first. Pionk was addition by subtraction in my opinion. His value was probably nothing more than a 2nd or 3rd rounder at best.

I think in a worst case scenario, we could probably recoup what we gave up for him. Yet, there's also a strong possibility if he continues to perform at the level he has, that we could probably get a prospect better than Pionk + a first.

Anyways, hopefully this discussion is all for moot, because I really hope he re-signs with us long-term.
