Someone responding to Vince's tweet made the point... a really valid and interesting one in light of past inconsistent performance and regular kicks in the pants being in order... that playing Kakko behind Buchnevich keeps the latter with one eye over his shoulder knowing his place on the top line could be very temporary if he doesn't keep the pedal to the metal. Let the competition enforce discipline so that coach won't have to. I think I like it.

Miller, Robertson, Hajek, Rykov, and Reunanen are all LD with higher upside. Not to mention Skjei who is already established. The odds aren't in his favor.
Skjei and his 5.25 cap can hit the bricks for fair market return and cap relief.
Play the kids,
Competition is a good thing.
I agree w/ya K'Andre and coupla others have more upside, but Hajek, Lindgren and Rykov should be here now, supplemented by Staal who we foolishly kept instead of Shatty. When it's Miller time, we'll be happy to have the problem and see who goes.

Well what else is going to say?

"I'm going to give Kakko the 1st line spot without him even completing a training camp or a preseason game"

Kakko will be at the spot if he plays in training camp/pre season. He's not going to just announce that he is handing it to him without him ever even stepping foot in an NHL arena, that would look bad.

My main thought is if they shop Buchnevich in the summer, his value will likely get a bump from this placement.

The lindgren love is about as warranted as the Freddy Claesson love I saw here last season. Dime a dozen players. Skjei Hajek Rykov Miller Reunanen Robertson all light years better than Lindgren

I wouldn't call it "love", it's the beginning of training camp and we are discussing possibilities. Lindgren is in the mix.

Plus, unlike Claesson--who was signed as a stopgap last year--the Ranger traded for Lindgren and have had positive things to say about it. He wasn't a throw in,

There nothing wrong with being excited about a prospect. Lindgren brings skills and an attitude that can be useful going forward. What happens on the ice matters now.

The kid is very good in the AHL and is more than capable of being on a bottom 6 in the NHL....

concur
fully MORE than capable

So

Panarin — Zibanajed — Buchnevich
Kreider — Chytil — Kakko
Howden — Andersson — Kravtsov
Lemieux — Strome — Namestnikov

If Kravtsov makes the team immediately. Not a sure thing.

Remember, a guy like Necas spent all of last year in the AHL and it was widely considered good for him, even though he probably could’ve stayed up with Carolina.

You left Fast out. Also I don't agree with the lines I would go like this....
Kreider -Zibanejad -Bcunevich
Panarin -Chytil- Kakko,
Andersson- Strome- Kravtsov
Lemieux- Howden- Fast

Assuming VK makes the team, it's going to be interesting to see who is the healthy scratch. Or maybe it won't be an issue if Howden or Andersson or more unlikely Chytil get sent down.

There could be injuries in camp too. Not just our own, but another team could have an important forward out for a significant amount of time and make a good enough offer for Kreider or more likely Namestnikov for Gorton to accept.

His speed alone can create offense and he plays a very reliable north south (hitting) game. He's also consistent with assignment on the PK and can look to set up someone with his vision on the rush. IMO, he's a very good bottom-6er and is well worthy of his extension with NYR. Now he has to opportunity to show he belongs there. Not to mention he's a pretty solid AHLer, too.

I don't see how that is "awful"....

all ^ true.
What is overlooked is the few times he has played ever so briefly for a few shifts here and there, he has produced.
Case in point.
First time around, he looked good with Buch.
But for some reason, AV, favoring vets, goes another way.

Last season, even tho it was only 2 isolated shifts, he carried the mail so to speak for both Chytil and Kreider.
Extremely small sample size, I fully concede, but makes zero sense not to exhaust the mathematical possibility that Kreider-Boo-correct RW, presumably Zib, would = great chemistry.

thank you JB for telling it like it is, and I am confident given a full chance as I have specified, Nieves will not disappoint.

Demand all you want, he is only going to get top line minutes once he deserves it. I.e outplays the incumbents. Until then, he is just another prospect that has never stepped a toe onto NHL ice.

Or maybe ZBad was the commonality.
Either you time traveled or did some serious ninja edits....

That lineup is also missing Fast, and we all know he's going to be in the lineup.

Since I don't see Namestnikov being a healthy scratch, I think it'll come down to Kravtsov and/or one of the young Cs starting in Hartford. My guess is it'll slot out something like this for the forwards:

Panarin-Mika-Buchnevich
Kreider-Chytil-Strome
Lemieux-Howden-Kakko
Namestnikov-Nieves/McKegg-Fast

Here's my Hartford projection that will be hilariously incorrect:

PDG-Lias-Kravtsov
Gropp-Fogarty-Lettieri
Zolniercyk-Jones-O'Regan
Gettinger-Fontaine-LZG

It feels like I'm missing a ton of people there, but I genuinely don't know where to slot other guys in.

My lines would be:

Panarin-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Kreider-Lias- Kakko
Strome-Chytil- Kravtsov
Lemieux- Howden- Fast

Namestnikov (should be traded)
Boo

Skjei-Trouba
Hajek-Deangelo (I guess Smith while he's out)
Staal -Fox

Staal/Smith - both should be traded, but alas, no one will take them

That's all I was saying. And you know it's very possible Buch will screw the pooch, with a blown coverage or a bad decision and give Kakko that chance.
Regarding Buch, I am still not convinced that he is here long term. He was shopped along with Kreider. I have maintained for a while that if Krieder takes a hometown discount, it may well be Buch that gets traded.

Either way, Kakko will have his opportunities. All he has to do is seize them. Easy, right?

it is way too many F's
would want Lias and before long Kravstov in NY

Beleskey, Meskanen, Newell, Elmer, Ronning, Dmowski,
all maybe ahead of LZG, if LZG is even healthy ..
very likely Maine Fs include Leedahl, McBride, Chase
