I just don’t see how Nieves or Andersson stay on the main roster with jeff’s Lack of movement this summer. Just don’t see roster spots for them at all. Not until he finally starts moving out some bodies. Brooks named them today and frankly they all need to be gone by the deadline.

Kreider
Namestnikov
Strome
Fast

At least 2 of which should have been moved before we ever got to camp. Even if Lias has a good camp there’s literally no spot for him assuming the coaches like Howden over him and they do.

It’s the second summer in a row we did not do a good enough job moving pending free agents out and we only got away with it this past year because we won the draft lottery. But not moving guys out over the summer like zucc hurt their value on the market and kept us out of the bottom 5 of the draft.

It is worth it for us to recognize an extended Kreider as the most valuable option there.
There is no need to give away Fast, esp at what little he makes.

Strome I can see commanding value. If we are not greedy, he could be moved quickly if we wanna go there. Whether we should or not depends on the return.

Namest is a disaster, esp for the 4.0 he makes.
They apparently are having difficulty unloading him even for just cap space, as an expiring contract.
If we are really stuck w/him, 4th line pivot should be considered until, prob due to injury, we can get rid of him.

We have to get creative and besides useless guys like Smith, think about Skjei, Deangelo while in demand.
We can't protect everyone, and the draft is within 2 years, yes, but it gets A LOT harder to move people then.

More like a 4th liner than a 3rd though. Boo is offensively challenged. What I like though is he's big, fast and strong and where I see a role for him is as a 4th liner and on the penalty kill.

He’s definitely not awful but you don’t need to play with words either. Calling him a “Bottom-6er” is playing with words. Nieves is capable (generously) 4th liner, that’s it. I’d love to have him on my 4th line but he’s not even a utility player like Fast who could slide into a higher line for a short time if needed. Let’s call a spade a spade.

Until this kid get's a fair chance to play with better talented scoring Ws, it is neither fair nor accurate to say this.
Last year, we had to showcase Hayes, Zuc, and build up our regular guys who needed mins.
Give the kid a chance.
If he effs up, I'll take my lumps from you guys.

But be fair, be honest.

My main thought is if they shop Buchnevich in the summer, his value will likely get a bump from this placement.
To be honest with you, I thought that there was no way that both he and Kreider are starting the year with the Rangers. Now, I think that there is no way that both he and Kreider are ending the year with the Rangers.

That’s.... actually a really big deal.

I’m assuming Rodriguez was hired a while back. At least a few weeks before camp.

It’s not new news. Saw it reported elsewhere earlier. I think in one of those off-season articles documenting how much with not just the team, but the entire org, had changed (including HFD coaching, new facilities, etc.).

At least I don't have Nieves off the team. I think he's 50/50 to make the Rangers out of training camp. He doesn't have the creative instinct to be a scoring center. It's as simple as that. Like the size and skating and he has good stickhandling skills but he's only an okay passer and he passes up way too many shots to be any real threat as a goal scorer. He's going to be 26 in January Bern. Let that sink in. He's had three full professional seasons and is moving into his fourth. We're not talking about a kid anymore--he's moving towards middle age for a hockey player. He was never a top point producer at Michigan U.--hasn't been in Hartford or with the Rangers and he's not going to be.....and he's not going to get the chance to play regularly with Panarin, Kakko, Kreider or Kravtsov unless there is some kind of dire emergency and in that case he's not going to save us.

it is way too many F's
would want Lias and before long Kravstov in NY

Beleskey, Meskanen, Newell, Elmer, Ronning, Dmowski,
all maybe ahead of LZG, if LZG is even healthy ..
very likely Maine Fs include Leedahl, McBride, Chase

See, my point exactly about forgetting people

It’ll be interesting to see how they manage all of these forwards. A lot of the promising college FA will realistically spend a lot of time in the ECHL

Competition among the forwards is the very best thing that can happen to this hockey team. Players fighting for jobs. A rising tide raises all ships. It will make the Rangers a better team.

Now if we could just get that same mojo going on the back end...
I think the last spot on defense is there for the taking. Skjei, Trouba, Staal guaranteed to be there. Fox and Smith very likely. DeAngelo if he signs. Leaves one spot open. Hajek, Reunanen, Rykov, Crawley, all fighting for it. There's definitely going to be competition for that last spot.

Putting DeAngelo aside for a minute, I think that (barring complete camp failures, they Rangers enter the season with Trouba, Skej, Staal, Fox and Hajek. If DeAngelo continues with the stupidity, that will leave a spot open on the right. Smith, I believe, starts the season as 12th forward/7th defenseman. Lingren really needs to open eyes in camp to overtake Hajek. Or so I believe.

UNLESS, the Rangers have a conversation with Staal regarding a time share. The same way they did with Henke last year, down the stretch. If that occurs, I believe that one of Hajek or Lindgren is in the lineup and for some stretches, both are.

The longer DeAngelo digs in, the more 1) vulnerable his spot on the 2nd pairing becomes if Fox shows that he can handle it 2) vulnerable his spot on the team becomes if someone else steps in on the right side in general.

Regarding Buch....
I always liked him. Sorta like a Kratsov coming here, a boy playing against men in the KHL. This should be his make or break year. All he needs is confidence. And neither AV or Quinn have really helped with that. Being he has more countrymen here and is no longer the new kid on the block, maybe he'll settle down. His contract should help with his confidence too.

I feel bad for Kreider. He is in the same spot Zuc and Hayes was. And if you listened to JD yesterday,... you could sense his days are numbered in NY.

And honestly, I really think we need him. We are suddenly a very young team. But I see no way the Rangers can keep him , their hands are tied and management knows this.

And even though I am excited to see these youngsters play this year, I am not looking forward to the growing pains of playing as a unit. Hank might get shelled this year.

Honestly, I'm looking forward to it. Growing pains are to be expected, but just imagine how exciting it will be to watch these young players turn into great nhl players, star NHL players, or even a franchise NHL players (or 2, fingers crossed). It will be a treat to watch them grow up before our eyes. Aside from Lundqvist we've never really been lucky enough to watch a player develop into a star over the last 2 decades.

If we got through the past 1.5 seasons then this season will be amazing. Even having just 1 of Panarin, Kakko, Fox, Kravtsov would be an upgrade entertainment wise. Now we add all of them plus Trouba. I can't see this being a bad or boring team. Unless the defense continues to lay Hank out to dry and Quinn doesn't give him a breather I don't see why we can't contend for WC

And neither AV or Quinn have really helped with that.
I think that he played the best that he ever has under Quinn. AV a different story. But down the stretch, he too his game to a different level last year.

What that means for this year, I have no idea. I do stand by my belief that one of him or Krieder is going.

If there is no Buchnevich, Kreider is here.

Because the chances of all rookies becoming impact players and no one on the team backsliding all in the same year, are almost non-existent. There is virtually no chance that this team is contending for the Cup. I honestly see a similar finish to last year. This team is not all that much different.
