Bottom 6 is going to be interesting. Unless one of Vlad and/or Strome get sent down, good odds that someone like Lias or Kravtsov are going to start in Hartford.
I just hope the office and Quinn have the convictions to not keep up a vet over a young player just for the sake of avoid it looking bad to send down a guy with a big contract.
Agree w da bold, Lias improved but still needs max mins while we move out some vets.
Krav is already except for the tolerable fact he is not used to NHL size rink. Has physical ability to adjust and then some, but mentally is not going there first, is my impression. He might go down very briefly to get more practice with that size, but must likely imo he makes the club.
Posters here keep using Chytil’s quote about how he’s been a center all his life. But I keep going back to Gorton’s own comments when being interviewed at the end of the season on MSG, where he specifically said, ‘the jury is still out as to whether Chytil is a center or wing at the NHL level’. And that has to represent the collective thinking of the organization. I’m not convinced Chytil is better at center than at wing, but I’m hoping he convinces me.
If the player can handle it, he should play where most effective, because not every skater can handle any of the 3 F slots. That said, I prefer him at pivot in a vacuum, but think we have better depth using him w/Howden at C on 3rd line w/Fast.
He's fighting for a spot on this team. I wish him the best, but he is up against it. We are pretty set on the wings. And I don't think Strome's spot is in danger, so he is basically fighting for that last center position with Nieves and Howden.
He is gonna need a good game tonight.
As a stopgap briefly Howden can be relegated to 4th line. However, I prefer him at 3C.
Strome is not in danger of being released or otherwise given away, but he will want and get more on the open market, and not from us, so first chance we get a decent offer he is buh-bye. Also, acid test here, we are not saving an exemption spot for him for elc draft. He goes fer sure.
Being him and Howden don't have to clear waivers is a plus. Especially if Nieves continues to play well during camp/preseason. Of course Nieves is just one crushing hit from being lost.
They are giving Lias a good chance to succeed tonight, playing between Kreids and Kravtsov.
Bold: thank you.
Ital.: I wouldn't say that. One crushing enough hit can do in anybody. Case in point is a beast like Eric Lindros.
But while Nieves has been concussed and it is totally fair to bring it up, it is also fair to point out that Boo's superior skating usually avoids or minimizes these types of super heavy hits.
I am all for spreading out the talent, I would go with:
Howden-Ziba-Kravy
Panarin-Chytil-Buch
Kreider-
Lias-Kakko
Boo-Strome-Fast
smiley aside you realize what you are saying?
KLK 3rd line you have is more than tough enough
Put Boo there, as I have preached, with CK; I wanted Zib and his righty shot, but KK on that line would also work well.
Then use Lias at 4LW.
Unfortunately, we have a 7OA investment in Andy, so we will have to play him in middle six until we can work out a deal for him.
after that disaster that was brendan smith and the guy that used to be brady skjei the other night, and now tonight we get to see marc staal flail all over the ice, im pretty sure ADA will be laughing thinking that this team can't afford him not to play.
those 3 guys will make ADA look like scott stevens
I am sure Skjei still has his basic skating ability, but w'o poise, was horrible. Trouba, I acknowledge, showed us a lot of good things game 1, but more def excellence was needed.
Like I said, we should be moving Skjei already since Hajek + Lindgren are good so far as I thought they might be.
Smith I would pay to get rid of, like max retain and reasonable bribe to maybe OTT?
Staal we stupidly kept instead of Shattenkirk.
Until compliance buy outs if they get here fast enuf, only option is to not dress him.
On paper it makes sense to send Kravtsov w Shestyorkin to the AHL
Shesty, yes.
We have no room and we want to squeeze contract benefit of not playing him in 10 games.
Krav, no.
He is fully ready, except for adjustment to size of rink.
So breadman came out, thankfully it was minor.
I read Boo was the beneficiary of more mins, like around 13 or so. He played well in what seemed like 3rd line nearly all of that.
But I vividly remember about 8 seconds, where Zib went off, and Nieves quickly got them out of their own zone, leading Kreider and Krav. I thought, yeah, here we go, but CK coughed up the puck and that was that, with a return to regular shifts after.
Someone in another thread had the impudence to speak with authority and say that "it was explained to me" "already" [multiple times may have also been used] that Boo is just not talented enough to play with higher players.
Wrong.
Does he have the star power and ability to dictate control of a game, on his own or otherwise? No, and I have said such.
But, he is fully complementary to higher skilled Fs.
Boo's deficiency is his shooting/goal scoring.
Setting aside that a large chunk of Kreider's are tap in rebounds, the only scorers we have are Panarin, Zib, and to a lesser extent Chytil. Kakko looks like he will be very good, so does Krav, and y suspicion is their skills as shooters will be visible soon enough.
Buch is a maybe work in progress.
The rest of them none of these guys is a heavy scoring threat.
I'm not saying we are talking about Bill Chadwick commenting on Gene Carr, that he couldn't put the puck
in the ocean bad, but except as specified, no one is distinguished on this squad for potting them.
Yet Nieves, who passes the eye test otherwise better than his peers, we want to throw away.
There is a reason he was, even if 4th line/bot 6 at this pt, team A.
If/when we liquidate enough vets/other surplus into futures, you will see Boo moved up and you will see I was right.
Haley playing again, to me, means they are looking hard at keeping him around. Even as depth in the AHL which is good for me.
I really like seeing the Nieves-McKegg pairing at forward. Based on what I’ve seen, that would be 2/3 of my 4th line
They have looked good together.
Haley on 3rd line while Gettinger on the 4th? Strange.
It's preseason.
Ideally, if we moved enuf deadweight, my 4th line Ws would be Lemieux and Gettinger, assume Get can skate well enuf, which remains to be seen. But wow, that would be one ass crushing punisher line with the right pivot (McKegg?).
