Brooks said it well.

"Hence, if Strome is playing either second- or third-line center next week, it won’t necessarily be because he took the job, but because one of the kids could not. A prospect or two may need to start in the shallow end of the pool. If that is the case, so be it."

Strome being on the second line wouldn't be about Strome. If someone is going to struggle in that responsibility, better it be Strome than Chytil/Andersson/Howden.

"The Rangers are not trading Stepan"

i see lemme wasted on line 4

his minutes will be less and hes skilled enough to take a regular top 9 shift

that 3rd line as presently constructed does nothing for me

The incorporation of Brendan into a regular PK unit will do a lot more to increase his minutes than the difference between 3rd and 4th line shifts IMO.

That's a role they need to groom him for. His speed and strength should make him a very good PKer and he deserves more minutes than he is getting. Hopefully by the end of this season he is seeing 12-14 minutes a night regularly.

And, not having him out there for 20 minutes allows him to play each shift with the kind of energy that fits a player of his style.

Interesting that Reunanen goes to AHL camp. I would have assumed they'd loan him straight back, based on what his Liiga team's release said.

Reunanen can decide to trigger his European assignment clause at any time. It's up to him whether or not he goes back to Liiga. Kristian Vesalainen triggered his EAC in November last year so it's not necessarily a guarantee a player spends the entire season in NA if he doesn't go back immediately

No real surprises at this point.

O'Regan is still on the roster but was waived earlier today so he's going down as well.

So we should have (18) forwards and (10) defensemen left tomorrow.

Fogarty, Haley, Lettieri are all probably sure-fire AHL bound. That's (15) forwards left.

Kravtsov to start the year in the AHL. (14).

Nieves or McKegg stick around. (13)

Rykov hasn't played a game, he will b demoted to start the year. (9)

One of Lindgren or Hajek will take that #3 LD. (8)

Smith or Morrow stick as #7d. (7)

So how about this lineup:

Kreider-Strome-Ziba
Panarin-Names-Buch
Lemieux-Howden-Fast
Haley-Boo-McKegg

No 1 Line in HFD:
Lias-Chytil-Kravy

Then after Strome and Names have boosted their value enough to reach 7th round pick lvls we trade them the f*** away.

Questions?

No I get all that, its just his team (at least in a translated statement) seemed pretty adamant he'd come back if he didn't make the Rangers, the implication being more or less immediately. And coupled with the report from the Post the other day about the plan being for him to return to Lukko, I figured it was a foregone conclusion he'd head back ASAP.

yeah I have a question. How much have you had to drink?:sarcasm:

Color me intrigued by Strome this camp and the possibility of him turning a corner between Kakko and Kreider. Of the available options for that 2C spot, he was clearly at the top of the heap for me. Perfectly fine with the kids being forced to unseat him.

Loving that Howden keeps pissing the board off. You're my boy, blue Howdy!

Doesn't Smith's cap hit factor in too if he can stay in NY or has to go to Hfd?
I think if they carry him as the only extra, it works. But if they wanted to take, say, McKegg as a spare forward, then I don't know if there's enough room for Smith to stay up. I'm probably wrong, though. LOL.

EDIT: I'm wrong, just look at Capfriendly.

New York Rangers - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

If we kept Smith, McKegg, and Nieves, we'd still have $200K+.

I get shifting Chytil from the center spot. He's not ready for it. May truly be a winger long term.

That said, he's also not necessarily an ideal 3rd line wing at this point either. Both roles require a defensive awareness. I'd much rather have Fast, Lemmy, Namestnikov, etc in that role.

Long term goal should be to develop Chytil for a top six role.

As such, the most ideal place for him is playing in Hartford. Kravtsov is sorta in the same boat. Let both play big minutes. Let them dominate down there. Let them work on rounding out their game in all three zones. We have enough depth this season to not rush a kid and put them in over their heads.

I'm also wondering if the pace of the NHL is wearing down Kakko during the game. He seems to get a little gassed and has played less in the 3rd in both matches so far. That could just be about getting better at D. But it could also be an adjustment period as well.

Guessing Quinn will need to manage KK's minutes and responsibilities in throughout the year. And having a fresh Kravtsov or Chytil to call up and spell KK from time to time is a very reasonable option for either kid. Both are so so so young still.

I want to punch a baby goat in the head after reading these line suggestions. Have you ever seen a baby goat? They're like the cutest things in the world. And your post makes me want to punch them.

Shame on YOU Ola. :nono:

How else are we getting rid of the crap Gorton has assembled? ;)

Let the kids develop together in HFD on the same line.

I think you are joking. I hope so.

Also, um, Kaapo Kakko?

How do you mean?

handled the puck like a grenade, got caught up ice a bunch of times, the one goal against was a product of bad luck sure, but if staal does his job there isn’t a situation where bad luck can even occur (or at least that instance of bad luck)

He was also out of position a ton. Not to Morrow levels who decided he wanted to chase everyone who had the puck behind the net, but it was bad.

Seriously though, on Marc Staal, I don’t get the notion that we must trash him just to trash him. He is a lot more OK in a zone defense than in a man-man defense. For someone his age, he moves pretty well for a 6’4.

He is of course not playing up to his pay check, but that is nothing new.

I actually think Staal has even been a tad better than I expected this pre-season.

All the evidence would point against him being ok in this system.

if he’s been better than you expected fine. But the bar is really, really low. Like slightly above rock bottom is still really bad.
