Looks like Chytil not being able to hold down a C spot is forcing Kravtsov to the AHL. It's not the worst situation since they can use the time in Hartford fro Kravtsov as an aid to his transition to NA, but it forces them to run an inferior lineup than we hoped for.

Can already see that the bottom 3 lines will have a bunch of moving pieces this season.

Well if Chytil stuck Strome would be on the wing so either way Kravtsov would start in the A.

I still would have loved to see Chytil get a game with those two and he may later on as the season progresses but he’s the youngest of the 3 he’s got a ways to go on the defensive side of the puck and it will come.

Strome looked great last night. I really liked his game. He looked quicker too. He needs to get pucks to kakko and Kreider and cover for them. I think this will be a very good line.

Morrow was horrific. He made Staal look good.
How about some feedback other than you just saying he was horrific. Because he absolutely was nowhere near “horrific”.

He skated better than Staal and made simple plays. Staal turned pucks over, made lazy clears back to the Islanders, and got beat to pucks all night. Smith did pretty much the same thing. So yea I’d say they were absolutely worse.

If we're going by those practice groups we're looking at

Panarin-Zib-Buch
Kreider-Strome-Kakko
Names-Howden-Chytil
Lemieux-Lias-Fast
Boo/McKegg

Skjei-Trouba
Staal-TDA
Hajek-Fox
Smith

Hank
Georgiev

The rest are in Hartford

I have no earthly idea what Howden has done to deserve being further up the depth chart than Lias and if I have to watch Ryan Strome be horrible for as long as I did last year I will lose my mind.

Eh... I thought Morrow made a lot of really bad decisions last night. The one that stands out the most was when he left his post at the front of the net to attack the puck behind the net, leaving a man wide open and forcing Andersson to take a penalty to prevent a top scoring chance. There were many other subtler ones in the defensive zone. In the offensive zone, he ended a potential great possession shift for the opportunity to take a low-quality shot. Again, there were other subtler bad choices. Maybe you can chalk it up to a new system for him, but I didn't like his game.

Not that Smith was any good either. Staal did get pinned a few times, but overall I thought did better on most of the shifts he was out there against the Isles weaker forward lines.

Would be super helpful to actually see Kreider and Kakko play an actual game together with A center any center at this point. We haven’t.

I still think Chytil is the guy. He can get the puck to kakko skate it out of trouble and find him like many can’t. But it’s ridiculous that Quinn hasn’t put the 2nd line together at all a week before opening night.
This is why Chytil needs to center Kreider and Kakko IMO. Chytil is the best transition player besides Panarin. Kakko needs an exit/entry forward on his line. Ryan Strome is not going to cut it.

Chytil isn’t a center though. They need to stop trying to make Chytil as a Center happen. Lias should be in that role. Lias needs to stop getting nailed to bottom six because he has a concept of what defense is. Lias, with better offensive players should be more of a factor.

watching smith, staal and morrow was difficult.

thats 3 really bad defenseman right there.

the fake staal love last night was cringe worthy.

the forwards did a better job of back checking and helping out in the neutral zone but they had no choice with those 3 plugs on the ice.

get me some rykov and hajek and send smith far away. staal can rest every other night. lol

I was told Ranger management is convinced that Chytil is a center, and there is no doubt about it, right, @Kovalev27 ?
Except, we have quotes from management and the coaching staff that says that and that he would ideally start the season at 2C.

Thanks for playing.

I feel like it was/is going to be pretty inevitable that Strome is the 2C for a chunk of the year

He’s just such a bleh player though

Silver lining here is that Strome could really up his eventual trade value playing between those guys.

There's also no real harm in starting Kravtsov in the AHL. He's used to playing with scrubs.

Looks like Hajek still has the inside track for the 3LD spot over Lindgren.

Not every player needs to have the razzle. I can see him being generally mistake-free, responsible on both sides of the puck, and just helping drive the line, chip in some goals, dish the puck to the better talents. I think Fox will similarly go about his business and produce results without the highlight-reel bling.

The kid was drafted as a center... we have exactly ONE center in Zbad. We currently have no one grabbing the horns to grab 2C, 3C and even 4C.

I don't see giving the kid who said "I'm more comfortable at center" every chance to make that happen as an issue.

Maybe it won't happen, but 'trying to make it happen' isn't how I would describe what Quinn and his staff are doing. It's an unfair characterization. It's pre-season... they're going to and ARE trying a lot of things that we may never see in real games.
