Reunanen must get another game. Not sure what DQs reasoning is with giving him 1 game while guys like Morrow and co have multiple games already.
I actually thought Morrow looked good last night. Thought he looked better than Staal and Smith tbh.

But yes Tarmo needs another game. He should get at least 1 more. Also want to see Rykov but that depends on his health.

A 2014-16 Brassard on the roster would solve a lot of problems. Chytil and Andersson could then slot down into more suitable roles. Howden I think should start in the AHL. Maybe let Namestnikov or Strome handle 2C for the first half. Drum up trade value, make a move around New Year's, and call up Howden.

Panarin - Zibanejad - Buchnevich
Kreider - Strome/Namestnikov - Kakko
Namestnikov/Strome - Chytil - Kravtsov
Lemieux - Andersson - Fast

They're just holding onto Tarmo to let him practice with the team and absorb what he can. Surely they've decided they're not keeping him, and just have him around for the experience. This has all been great for him, I'm sure. Getting another game would be terrific, but if he doesn't it's really not a big deal.

Most of the young kids on defense will get their play in the last game. I'm sure they'll be making some decisions on who is going to get that last spot on the left side then.

Morrow can't be it, although as a 7D, it's not bad to have him around for depth. Kids get time in Hartford. Smith isn't good either.

Really wish Rykov was able to get time in these games. Injury opened the door for guys like Reunanen and Lindgren to try and steal a spot. Next two games I would like to see Hajek get a shot with DeAngelo and then Lindgren or Reunanen. I think Skjei-Trouba and Staal-Fox will be a thing.

Thursday might be a dress rehearsal for opening night. Will be curious to see who lines up with DeAngelo. I'd think Hajek will get that shot.

ok here we go plain and simple.

its gonna be strome at the 2C on opening night. chytl on the wall. one of lias or howden in hartford to start or we will need to move a forward like names.

howden, but for a stretch last year early, has looked like a very pedestrian 3C. he lacks high end skill and vision. hes a perfect 3C type guy. a decent skating plumber who can get up and down the ice. so far, thats what i see. he will be a very good 3C but more than that and he will struggle to produce points. needs more pro ice time.

lias. looks better on his skates. more fluid but still lacking anything close to a dynamic creative side. hes another plumber who works hard and competes. just dont see the skill or speed there. 3C again and a spot where he can maximize his skills. lacking experience.

chytl. so far, very blah. best skill set of the 3 no doubt, good size and wheels but hasn't shown much so far. as a 2C hes overmatched and out of his comfort zone where he can be most effective. hes a winger and thats here he should play. in time, he could develop into a 2C with those skills but right now today, wing. period. as a 2C, hes too inexperienced to play those minutes.

strome. thats your 2C. he skates enough. he competes and hes got some vision. hes got experience and thats what makes him the right guy to play with kakko and kreider.

there i said it.

Strome also sucks though

Strome also sucks though

actually, he doesn't relative to the other choices.

hes got size at 6'1 200 lbs. hes a righty and he has the best hands of the 4 guys we've mentioned. hes got experience too and thats the difference.

hes very smart, he can skate enough and he has the ability to keep up mentally because hes played in the league. kakko needs the puck and strome can do that. kreider is smart as well. they will support kk.

look, its not ideal. strome as your 2C is an indication that somethings wrong but hes the guy.

up the middle this team is severely lacking. after mika, it aint pretty.

we knew that. strome is the best fit there right now. sadly, thats the reality.

Howden will have a career like his brother. Out of the league in 3 years.

Uhh, no.

There's under a Mil in cap space so no one is coming to the rescue.
You're going to have to play these kids eventually and just deal with whatever bumps and bruises come along with it.

Zib
Chytil
Andersson
Howden

Just do it already...

I'll be very pleased with this.

Those other choices haven't had much of a look though so I'm not sure how accurate this is.

There's a big picture here and that involves our youngsters. These kids need to play so we know what we have with them. Guys like Strome and Names provide some insulation but neither player is part of the big picture.

Well, it depends on what the goal for the season is, do whatever you can to make the playoffs or do whatever you can to get young player ready for when it’s time to compete. Strome as the 2C fulfills the former, any of the other guys fulfills the latter because playing with a play driver like Kreider is enough insulation for any of the young guys

We haven’t seen Chytil with Kreider and Kakko yet, have we?

Strome is not good. He can be passable wherever in the bottom 6 but I’d rather let Chytil feel out 2C and learn and improve than give it to a vet like Strome who will do little with it and get nothing out of it

We have not. We’ve yet to see kakko with Chytil or Kreider. I’m not sure how quinn expects them to look good together when from my recollection they’ve only practiced together once. Maybe twice since camp started. Then he broke everyone up into game groups. I mean this was the first time we got to see Buchy in a game with 93 and 10 and they got better and better as the game went along. I hate not getting your team ready for opening night because you’re too busy evaluating the Danny O Regans of the world.

AV did this religiously and we came out bad every year.

This year he cut everyone very early. He learned his lesson. Quinn is going to learn the hard way it seems. I’d liked to see almost an entirely finished product on Thursday

Agreed. They’ve been humoring guys who have no place on the team too long. Guys like Robertson I get to some degree since they’re in the organization’s future plans and it’s good for them to feel where they should improve and to start to get comfortable with the organization. But like, Di Giuseppe? O Reagan? They’re not going to be Rangers this year if ever. Let’s get going with the actual team. The bottom 6 still needs to fleshed out as does the bottom of the defense.

IMO the team pretty much knows exactly who will be breaking camp with the Rangers. At this point they just want to try different combinations and get longer looks at some of the fringe guys. Otherwise, I think it's pretty much decided. Maybe Kravtsov and the 3LD spot are still in limbo, but otherwise I think it's done.

Chytil really dropped off last year when he lost confidence. It's something to keep in mind if we put him in that spot and he loses 80% of the face offs. Then his line doesn't score much because they never have the puck since his d game isn't there yet either.

I think people always invest too much concern over roster positions during preseason. Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. Second period of game one, the plan will be thrown out the window. Injuries, chemistry, trades. I don't think we've seen a single game in 8 years where the starting roster made it intact through a full game.

Injuries and trades happen. If Gorton gets a good deal for a guy like Namestnikov half way through the year, Quinn will need to understand the type of players he has in the AHL. O'Regan, Di Giusseppe, Brickley, etc. I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of those guys at certain point this season

I get that to a degree but we’re looking at maybe two games with a full roster now. Kind of late in preseason to be finding out what those guys have imo.

Birckley needs to be signed beforehand. same for Haley who I feel will get a contract

I would imagine this is the NHL group as 'A' and to AHL group in 'B' after that Andersson line

only 3 lines in group A...so I think the top line in group is your 4th line...plus grab a 13th forward and 7th dman. but otherwise that is probably right.

We’ll practice lines are out and Chytil has lost that spot to start. We have to remember how young this kid is. Sounds like the defensive side of the puck is where he’s still struggling.

That first line of group b would be our 4th line. This all makes sense to start.
