Quinn Hughes Mega thread: Top in points, Norris consideration, MVP and Canucks fans hearts

The Canucks allowed FIVE shots in the 3rd period, three of which found the way to the back of the net on what should have been easy routine saves. The only goal against that Hughes had a major part in was the short handed one, even if it never should have made it's way past Markstrom. He made a rookie mistake of being nonchalant in his own zone since they were on the powerplay. Those are the types of mistakes you expect from a kid with less than 20 games experience playing a huge role. You can't exactly blame him for the unscreened point shots on the goals that Ferland and Myers gave the puck away in their own zone for.

Yeah I mean it's not like he has a history of playing bad defensively. It's not like they'd bench him for whole periods because they didn't trust him defensively....must be a hater.
If you're seriously referencing juniors then there is no argument, he was a young teen in juniors and is barely 20 years old in the NHL. He's a defenceman of course he's gonna have bad games defensively especially at a young age or a rookie in the best league in the world. Every single defenceman (or player for that matter) who has played the game has had bad games or made mistakes defensively, its a completely common thing. So yeah you do look like a hater when you just pop out of the woodwork once Hughes has a bad game just to be like "Oh look! Look!! Hughes had a bad game!! Bad defenceman!!" it just seems petty. Realize that players make mistakes, especially first year rookies, they are only human after all.

Imagine still referring to a junior tournament after a players has showed great promise in the nhl

HFboard never disappoints

Hughes is much better defensively than expected. Already a top 4 Dman, and has #1 D potential.

He's been solid defensively overall this season. Using plus-minus logic in a particular game to judge a player's defensive play is nothing sort of embarrassing use of logical reasoning (especially when the goalie couldn't stop a beachball for a period). Hughes was fine yesterday. Funny how these downplayers comment in such opportunistic sneaky ways to diminish a Canuck player. We saw certain users doing this with Boeser and EP in previous seasons.

Was Lidstrom ever knocked off the puck by a light breeze? Remind me.

In his early days yes, yes he was. Just like Cale Makar has, Charlie Mcavoy has, Ivan Provorov has, Werenski has. News flash, young defensemen have defensive breakdowns, doesn’t meant their bad defensively or soft.

Or when elias petterson was wayne Gretzky. Hughes is a good defenceman but relax on the hype. His defence is pretty bad, he's still young and he will get better.

we get it. Petey and Hughes suck and will not amount to anything. Same with Boeser and Horvat and also Podkolzin. All awful.

cant wait till Johnny signs with the Flyers

There are a lot of embarrassing takes in this thread that the passage of time will upgrade to humiliating.

Quinn Hughes has played less than 20 games in his career. The Capitals have been one of the best offensive teams since 2000 for about 15 years. There were certainly plays where one could tell that he had a little more to learn, but I also saw him making some in-game adjustments.

He is a superstar. He will be a top pairing D who scores between 60-80 points regularly. I believe that firmly. Not because I'm a Canucks fan. I haven't said that about any D we have ever had in our history and I have been on this site since 2005 and have been a die-hard Canucks (and hockey) fan since 1995. Hughes will be the best Canucks D man ever, barring injury. If you think that's a hot take, watch his games (and look at our relatively moribund history of defensemen).

Yikes. Might want to dial that back a bit.

Actually horvat is your best player and one of my favorite players in the league. Didn't say those guys suck so relax.
