Lots of real bad takes on this board lol. Hughes is great but trust me he’s going to hit a rough patch at some point too. Really like this player too

All players hit rough patches. Doesn't diminish his skill level or what he is doing right now.

Who's nitpicking all these stats? Do you know who's leading 5 on 4 S% for forwards? Brandon Pirri  Looking at the names on this list I'm not sure this meaningless stat is somehow an indicator of good players?
Player Season Totals - Natural Stat Trick

Jesus, what a horribly misinformed post.

The Tweet that you quoted was referencing SHOTS FOR rates. You just posted shooting percentage.

Use this link and sort by “SF/60.” Player Season Totals - Natural Stat Trick

The top-5 defensemen in this stat last season were Morgan Rielly, John Klingberg, Dustin Byfuglien, Brent Burns, and Justin Faulk.

I can looking at the correct stats, the link isn't working properly. Pirri is #1 for forwards?

So you clearly haven't watched his games, but have deemed his stats irrelevant as well. You must be an intellectual pillar.
I'm sure his shot rate while having 3 forwards on the ice during the 2nd period on the left side of the ice while playing a Eastern Conference team while having the puck on his forehand is very good. People nitpick advanced stats when the actual point production isn't there.

You said S%. That’s what I assumed you were talking about. Having said that, you still failed to look at the same stat, because the stat that was posted on Twitter had a minimum requirement of 20 minutes played. Brandon Pirri with only 18 minutes doesn’t meet that requirement.

It’s been 10 games into the season. James Neal is still near the NHL lead in goals. You want to sort by goals on NHL.com and say that’s a useless stat as well? No, because every stat is wonky after only 10 games. Especially rate stats with a minuscule arbitrary minimum.

Look at forwards last season with a minimum of 200 TOI. The top two in this stat were John Tavares and Mitchell Marner.

Yes, it does. Tavares and Marner were the only players in the league above 70 SF/60 and they were barely above that. Quinn Hughes at 82.85 SF/60 is wonky and no Canucks fan in their right mind thinks he is going to sustain that, but that’s not the point. The point is that his numbers so far have been impressive and are near the top of the NHL.

I mean, are we no longer allowed to be impressed by a player’s goal total because James Neal is nearly leading the NHL? Are goals worthless or not?

He has 6 points in 9 games tho...

Reductio ad absurdum. Yawn.

I HATE that we can never just enjoy an amazing player...we have to compare him to another amazing player and then bicker about who is better. Hughes is a franchise defenceman. Makar is a franchise defenceman. This particular thread is about Hughes. I firmly believe he is the best offensive D-man the Canucks have ever had.
