WTH are you even talking about?
You don't even watch the Oilers games?
How can you even have an opinion?
I do watch the Oil and JP, you are out to lunch with your take buddy. Do you watch the Oilers?

Puljujarvi offence drying up may be a blessing in disguise for Edmonton....there was no way we were going to be able to resign him with the hot start he had...

It hasn't even really dried up that much, he just got injured and took a few games to get back up to speed. He's got 9 points in 16 games under Woodcroft, which is about average for his season. a 45-50 point RW that's great all over the ice at 23 years old is a pretty nice commodity to have.

JP is an asset we can't afford to lose.

RFA years, cost controlled, young and improving, dynamic defensive forward with an average offensive game that's growing as he does.

He is the exact player the Oilers should be clamouring to hold on to.

Hot take: I would rather resign JP than Kane.

Not so Hot take: I want to resign both

This is a hellaciously bad take, my dude.
Well what are you seeing in Puljujarvi that I don't compared to those other players?
Last night when the opposition got physical Puljujarvi pissed his pants looking at the opposing player in the face like a 12 year old wondering why people are trying to push him around.
He's a child in Captain America's body and he's using a tiny fraction of his potential.

The way Kane is playing someone is gonna sign him for 7+ per season. I highly doubt Holland and figure out a way to make that work.
Kane's a good player but a terrible person and potentially a cancer in the locker room. i.e. a ticking time bomb. No one would commit to him longterm on a high dollar contract. It would likely be a year to year deal to lower the risk.

Someone will offer Kane that one or two extra years more than he should get . He “should” be a year to year deal but a GM will go longer term “ he fit in with Edmonton !”

I saw that... he must lack confidence. It was Kempe... and there was no reason for Kempe to do it... he was just trying to show his dominance over JP. I wish one time Puljujarvi would drop his gloves and pound the piss out of a guy like that... then the abuse he takes would end. He is so big and strong... I would say he is the strongest guy on the Oilers without the will, knowledge &/or confidence to utilize it to his advantage. They need to figure out how to tap into that strength (pardon the pun) of his.

Actually, you're probably wrong.
Yamamoto and McCloud bring a lot more to the table so Kane and Puljujarvi are most likely out in the off-season.
We need a goalie, an upgrade on the blueline and Holloway is most likely going to make the team next season.
I would have to say you are the one that is wrong. JP is involved in a lot of goals for that he doesnt get credit for. He causes a lot of havoc in front of the net that often leads to goals even though he doesnt touch the puck. He is strong on the boards, forcheck, backcheck, and plays good defence. He is big, strong, fast and is still growing into his body. I think he will be one of the players that peaks later than others. I dont see any way JP gets moved unless his contract ask is waaay too high

Then why isn't he playing minutes on the PK? Why are McLoud (a rookie) and Yamamoto getting minutes over Puljujarvi on the PK?

"I would have to say you are the one that is wrong"
LMAO
I think you should change that to
"I hope you are wrong so that I can make sense."

Puljujarvi got no minutes on special teams, while both McLoud and Yama got minutes on the PK and the PP. Puljujarvi is easily the odd man out. You can wait for Puljujarvi to have a great game and come back to this thread and remind me of how Puljujarvi is better, but while waiting for that to happen McLoud will consistently play well as he finishes his rookie season and Yamamoto will probably have already have had 3 good games by then.

At this point I think he's a gentle giant. It's not in his nature to hurt people. He throws hits, but you'll notice that he's a very clean hitter. I couldn't imagine him intentionally throwing a dirty hit. Dude is super chill.

If I was Oilers GM I offer him around 3M for 3 years (Bridge contract)
If the Oilers GM is not willing to go with this they can try to trade him vs Olofsson or Kubalik.
Trade RFA for another RFA with a near same value

Hot take. I'd rather re-sign both JP and Kane than Yamamoto, depending on salary demands. Not so Hot Take: I'd really rather sign all three.

I don't think your "hot take" is all that hot tbh.

Unless someone is thinking we'd allocate the funds for Kane to some other position of need, I don't think a single rational fan would choose JP and Yama over JP and Kane if all it cost us was more cap space.

And yes, all 3 are the best.

I think a lot of people would take Yamamoto over Pulujarvi though, given his production in the back half of the season and whatnot.

Not sure why McLeod is being brought into this. He's a center, and isn't really the guys to be comparing here. It's pretty clearly going to come down to salary demands IMO. If either JP or KY want a bigger payday, they probably get shopped first.

Kane's plans might also factor in here, but maybe not as well, considering he's probably wanting to wait to see how his challenge vs the Sharks plays out before he makes a decision. If he gets a good chunk of his San Jose contract paid to him (or to his debtors really), then it might be easier for him to take a smaller cap hit that we can work around. If he gets nothing, he probably has to go after the biggest payday, regardless of where it comes from.

The move is to trade Barrie, who will have value with only two years left, improved defensive play under a real coach, and still producing ~40 points, dump Kassian somewhere like Arizona with part of what you get for Barrie, and then go long term on Puljujarvi and short term on Yamamoto, McLeod, and Kane.

I love McLeod but I can't really see him putting the big numbers up on the third line with guys like Foegele.

This is the correct answer in my opinion.
On the not so hot take we know we would be choosing no goalie if we did manage to sign all three so that can't happen.

Yeah, its basically impossible. I'd like to re-sign Brassard as well for cheap depth, but we likely can't afford him at 900K, ha ha.
