Not sure why McLeod is being brought into this. He's a center, and isn't really the guys to be comparing here. It's pretty clearly going to come down to salary demands IMO. If either JP or KY want a bigger payday, they probably get shopped first.

Kane's plans might also factor in here, but maybe not as well, considering he's probably wanting to wait to see how his challenge vs the Sharks plays out before he makes a decision. If he gets a good chunk of his San Jose contract paid to him (or to his debtors really), then it might be easier for him to take a smaller cap hit that we can work around. If he gets nothing, he probably has to go after the biggest payday, regardless of where it comes from.

He's played his fair share of minutes on the wing with McDavid and Drai since Woodcroft took over. With Kane likely out the door (no way we can afford to re-sign him over finding a viable long term option in net) McLeoud will be playing in a top six role as a winger.

You should try watching Puljujrvi, Kane, Yamamoto and Mccloud when the Oilers play. Could you try doing it right now.

You will see that Puljujarvi is a very 1 dimensional player compared to the others. The others contribute in all situations. Yamamoto got 2 shots on goal on Edmonton's first PK tonight and nobody batted and eyelash.

3M is pushing it. He had a good month where he was on fire before getting injured. IMO he needs more than that to break 3M. Regardless, I don't think it's a big deal. I'm kinda expecting to see him get traded.
Lmao, McLeod sucks. All he has is speed.

The move is to trade Barrie, who will have value with only two years left, improved defensive play under a real coach, and still producing ~40 points, dump Kassian somewhere like Arizona with part of what you get for Barrie, and then go long term on Puljujarvi and short term on Yamamoto, McLeod, and Kane.

I love McLeod but I can't really see him putting the big numbers up on the third line with guys like Foegele.

This. And if still tight for money move Foegele for a pick

If you aren't sold on Mike, I'm sure the Oilers could find room in their bottom six for him next year. Ryan isn't going anywhere.

I'm not sold on Kassian, so feels like an even swap, Kassian for Mike McLeod. ;)
Kassian and a pick is probably enough to land Mike McLeod.
His engine doesn't stop but nobody's driving the car

Well that's funny. Kassian's engine only seems to run a quarter of the time, ha ha ha. As long as it isn't a high pick, I don't think you will find an Oiler fan that turns down a Kassian for M. McLeod deal.

Can't imagine it's all that much. Not likely to spontaneously develop a brain in his D+7. Maybe he can get a fresh start and reinvent himself like Nichushkin did because the tools are all there. Toolbox however, still not so much.

I’m really looking forward to Barrie being a cap dump thanks to you guys around Edmonton.

Depends on what you mean by "cap dump". If you are referring to us trading him to make room to fit in salary of other players, yes, he likely will be a "cap dump". If you are suggesting that we will need to pay someone to take him, I don't think that's going to be the case at all. There are more than a few teams that can use a powerplay QB at a reasonable cap hit. The fact that all we are going to want back is a cheaper 3RD or a reclamation project goalie (knowing Holland) makes it even better in my opinion.
