Correct, but making moves like that is why a lot of Red Wings still hate Ken Holland despite him bringing the team two decades of success.

Eh...no. We hate Holland because from 2010 to 2019 he proved unable to manage the salary cap, gave away draft picks for mostly useless players and signed aging vets to long term contracts that still haunt the team to this day.

As a Devils fan I tried making numerous proposals on Jesse but NO ONE wanted to move him without a massive overpay . I was told he is the only / best true winger the Oilers had and only one who plays a hood two way game .
Now people are willing to move on from him ?

What would it cost from the Devils now to try to get him ?
Is Ty Smith not enough / already have enough LHD or don’t need that type of D ?
Zacha ? Pick plus someone like Johnson ?
Foote ? Not sure if the Devils and Blackwood are still on the outs but maybe Blackwood plus something ?

If they moved JP then I'd want a goalie with starting potential coming back.

Some people are saying a 4th would do it , but others say a legit starting goalie?

There is zero chance the market for a 23 year old 0.5ppg player, with 3.4 oiGF/60 and 1.9 oiGA/60 is worth only a 4th.

His outscoring numbers this year were stellar. Defensively & outscoring wise, he improved every line he played on this year.

Some people are ready to move on from him as he hasn't been effective to end the year, or in the playoffs. He has some major bright spots in his game, but he also has been inconsistent again, and a team wanting to contend likely isn't the place for a guy to try to find the consistency in his game. That, along with Yamamoto emerging as more of a scoring threat while also playing with more intensity, and the hope that we can re-sign Kane, are making more Oiler fans feel that Pulujarvi could be expendable.

As per your list, we don't need any LD, we already have Nurse, Keith, Broberg and Niemalainen signed for next year, and rumour is they want to extend Kulak. I don't know if Johnsson or Zacha would be of interest only because we need to keep the returning salary low. Like, ELC low, ha ha. What does Zacha's expected ask on his extension look like?

I'd be interested in the depth that Foote could bring, but I don't know what his value is. I'd have interest in Blackwood but I know many of my fellow Oilers fans don't due to his injury concerns.

Blackwood and Zacha for Jesse
I see this being a very possible scenario. Possibly Skinner going back to NJ for an additional pick.

I have a feeling that the organization doesn't see Skinner as a reliable 40 game starter next season and his waiver eligibility complicates the goalie situation.

Zacha kind of fits the mold of the type of player they're missing in this playoff run. Even if that gritty part of his game has yet to emerge.

Is Puljujarvi eligible for an offersheet? Have to think with Oilers tight cap, this could be a concern.

What would you call him?

He was drafted 4th overall, he was projected to be a 1st liner. Even McDavid couldn't save his career lol.
Getting an NHL in the draft is seldom a bust. I can see Puljujärvi playing out his career in the NHL. This far he is a disappointment due to his draft position, but not a bust.

Slow starter, for sure.
A disappointment, Definitely.
Bust, no.
He will be a middle 6 player, on most teams.

I think you can be a regular NHLer and still be a bust...imo if they don't live up to their potential by a large margin then they're busts.

Ryan Murray and Galchenyuk are both a couple of examples that come to mind

I’ll give you Murray.

Galchenyuk suffered from lousy development, play, and mentorship under a horrendous coach and management in Montreal. He had a lot of early promise but Therrien, Bergevin, and the Habs destroyed him and his confidence.

I think Puljujarvi definitely had some issues early on, but his stint in Europe seems to have sorted that out. I’d give him a year or 2 to see if he continues on his current development or if he drops, before I make a final decision on him.

That’s where I’d be looking if I was an interested GM

True, although these rarely happen. I suppose a team like Anaheim could do it. Lots of room cap wise, looking to add a young player to their bevy of young players and kind of screw a divisional rival as well.

Ok so Oiler fans , give me some options on what you’d ask from the Devils in exchange for him.
McLeod ( as a minor piece from the Devils) unties the brothers. McLeod and a 2nd ? Or a second or Foote ? For D we have Smith , perhaps Bahl to offer.

Those guys don't quite move the bar for me, but I am not Holland. You think the Devils would move Arseni Gritsyuk in a Puljujarvi trade? I see them sort of cut from the same cloth, middle six wingers.

Edit: I think the Oilers should be pursuing a current NHLer who can help the team now, not a prospect. I realized this after I saved the above idea.

Probably not, he is probably our third best prospect behind only Like Hughes and pretty damn close to Holtz .

I agree with you on why Galchenyuk failed, but imo he still busted (through no fault of his own, like you said, development issues).

I also see your point on Pulju, maybe it's too soon to say whether or not he's a bust for some people...he just turned 24 after all so still some room to grow. I just don't see him turning into a legitimate top 6 (which is what he was drafted as) but time will tell...but to say we need to give him a couple more years to show what he's got is fair, his stint in Europe may have put him back on track for all I know.
