What happened to Burzan? He was so highly touted coming into the WHL. Hasn't lived up to the hype. Any reason for this? I can't say I've watched him play.

Production-wise he has not been amazing, but I thought he was in the same tier as Stotts. Same with Wouters and even someone like Kyle Topping. None of them have special skillsets, but do not really have weaknesses either. Plus they all play the game with a ton of IQ and know what they need to do to win. The types of guys you want to build the depth of your pool. It's still early, but I do not see any reason why they would have preferred guys like Bouthillier, Kizimov or Hollowell over them. They are bigger risks, and their upside is either similar or worse to theirs as well. However they obviously have seen more of them.

Piccinich is going to make a career attending these rookie camps. This is like his 16th camp.

It's his 3rd, and likely the last. Same with Bracco, Timashov, etc.

Also, you can probably scratch Carroll off of the list. He's heading to UNB, and if he's not even going to be around for the Growlers, I would not even waste our time with him. He was terrible in any scrimmage action and there is a long list of better players the Leafs could invite instead. At least younger players with more potential.

Interested to see what some of the D-men do at this tourney (Liljegren, Sandin, Durzi).

Hoping to see Bracco and Grundstrom dominate.

You still have Miro Aaltonen's rights, right?

He seems to be in good shape, scored 7 goals in 9 KHL preseason games. Yeah, blah blah exhibition games and all that, but it's a good sign. I believe he will have a monster season in KHL.

Yup, indefinitely.

Really think he just needs more play time to succeed.

Honestly after his terrible year in the ECHL he would need to play 2 great seasons in the KHL for him to even remotely change my mind. One year to prove he can do it and another year to prove it wasn't a fluke.

I'm not expecting much from him

If Korshkov gets steady 2nd line minutes this year (especially playing with a high end talent like Denisenko), we could see a nice jump in his production.

Would love to see this guy join the Marlies at the end of his KHL season.

Wish he would have stayed. I liked his game a lot. He was virtually guaranteed the fourth line centre role. I like him more than Lindholm, though Lindholm is pretty good too.

I think McGregor is a sleeper pick. I'm enjoying what I see and hear about him
He had a great playoffs for Sarnia last year when their big guys were struggling. He's a contender for a huge breakout year given the turnover on that team.

Agree with you, beside, always good to see Leafs control players do well.

Another thing is that right now it looks like he's going to be a 4C at best for them. If he (or one of the three guys ahead of him) moves to the wing, then of course things work out better for him. But Ruzicka, Rees and Sproviero will all likely end up ahead of him at center. Maybe, if he's lucky, he can beat out Sproviero and Rees, especially if Rees does not develop as planned, but both of them will probably be given more opportunities than McGregor to start. If that happens, I really hope he pushes for a trade. It's ridiculous to put someone of his quality on a 4th line at this stage of his career, especially since it looks like Sarnia is only going to scrap into the Western Conference playoffs at best next year. He should be at least a 2C on most teams right now, or at least a 3C if the team has really amazing center depth and is a top tier team (i.e. London).

Dzierkals did not have a terrible year in the ECHL. He was one of Orlando's top scorers despite being the youngest guy on the team, and he was easily the best guy on that team up until his call up. Then he slowed down after having to go back down.

He did not dominate as much as he did when he first got there, but it was still a more than good enough season for him to end up in the AHL this year. The only thing is that he likely would not have played every day to start (but neither did Bracco and look how good he is) and likely would have only been a 4th liner. He can probably be a top 9 forward minimum in Riga, would get paid a lot better, and would be at home. I can not blame him for wanting to go back there for a few years before coming back and I actually think it the best thing for the Leafs as well. We do get to keep him "indefinitely" after all, and he's getting more ice time to develop his skills. Plus now the Marlies can give that spot to someone else to try and develop them more (i.e. Piccinich, who likely would not have been given that chance had Dzierkals stuck around).
