Of Course, Gardiner's 12/13 playoff series, was his Draft + 5 year... In his D+2 year, he put up 13 points, in 41 games in the NCAA. That was actually a decline from his D+1 year.

Liljegren has another FOUR seasons, to grow as a player to be measured equally against Gardiner's 12/13 playoff series.
agree, originally I only made a stylistic comparison for them, it was the guy that I'm conversing with there that wants to say that Liljegren is much better than Gardiner at the same age (and sure, Gardiner hadn't done much but transition to college from highschool by then). I just want him to remember what we thought of Gardiner in the couple of years after we got him, I think he's got a bit of revisionist history going in based on Gardiner never turning into the #1 we thought he would. My point about comparing him to Gardiner stylistically wasn't to bring him down, just saying that I see a lot of Gardiner in the monthly highlight packs from AHL tracker

Personally, I think Liljegren is going to be better defensively than Gardiner, without the brain farts, and not as good offensively, but still fairly solid.

that would suit our needs very well, but have a watch of those highlight packs, he does things that will remind you of bad Gardiner - risky/showy passes in situations where getting picked is a breakaway for the other team and connecting just means clearing the zone type of thing. Gardiner never seemed to learn, so hopefully Liljegren does. Lots to like in the highlights too

He personally reminds me of Ryan Ellis stylistically.

My god would that ever be best case scenario..

he reminds me a bit more of Subban personally, although I guess they're not too dissimilar. Still, there's a lot to like about his offensive upside and the general intensity he can display. his elite skating is also pretty nice

I just wish Liljegren had that explosive step.

He's A VERY good skater overall, but if he had that extra step at the start it could help him a ton.

He's still young enough to develop that.

Personally, I've never thought Gardiner was going to be the backbone #1 for us. He'd have a glimpse of brilliance here and there, but meh.

that wasn't the prevailing sentiment from around 2011-2013, he was very highly regarded at that time and rightly so. I'm surprised that you like Liljegren so much if you didn't like Gardiner stylistically, I see so much similarity

I do agree that Liljegren can elevate himself to being a better prospect than Gardiner ever was if he has a breakout AHL year, or within the next couple of years. His pre-draft pedigree was higher than even a guy like Rielly, so let's hope he continues to restore the shine

Could be a combo of him not particularly excelling and that the KHL is harder on young players (in terms of cracking the roster)?

Skating Bert, that's what's hurting him and I can't imagine the big ice helps either if that's his major area of weakness

Have a feeling we'll see him loaned back to Kingston at some point.

His interviews made him seem a bit cocky, thinking in his draft +1 year he was done learning in the CHL even though he was by no means dominant.
A humbling experience like being benched for a few games while he works on conditioning and hopefully foot speed may not be a bad thing.

I still think the best case scenario is he end up back in the CHL and plays 25+ minutes a night as a top pairing guy.
Year after with the Marlies, playing mid pairing minutes and just working all year on his foot speed and edge work.

Korshkov didn't play in Lokomotiv's game today. Injured already?

Eh, don't think so. He left Kingston to go play in Finland because he was homesick last year.

If anything, we could see him loaned to a team in the Finnish SM-Liiga, or whoever Jokerit's affiliate is.

Kiekko-Vantaa. They play in a league below Liiga.

If he was good, he'd be playing, so it's a lot more of the former than the latter.
