Expecting it to be on the low end: 83M which is more than enough to reshape our D and the bottom six. Goaltending and the entire top six are already set.

Hyman Matthews Marner
Mik Tavares Nylander

Muzzin Holl
Dermott --------
Sandin --------

Andersen

88m means Pietrangelo is a leaf.

FYI, childhood friend of Tavares.

It’s great news for the Leafs chances of building on what they have currently. Time to go shopping in the summer.

Paul Marner reportedly upset about this, and is looking for a mutual termination of Mitch's deal to get him an AAV commensurate with the new cap.
Maybe MLS&E could just unlock the vault for Misfire Mitch at the end of each month and just let him take whatever he wants. His Dad can drive the wheelbarrow.

Imagine trading Marner for Jones and signing Pietrangelo...

Rielly Pietrangelo
Muzzin Jones
Dermott Holl
Sandin Liljegren

Andersen
Campbell

We'd be a team that has everything.

I’m more interested in getting the most out of the players we have now than spending more money actually. The cap will be the same for every team whatever it ends up being. Get me some goalies in the system and Rielly extended and make the playoffs and succeed down the stretch here.

Extra cap will be great when Mikheyev needs a new deal

You don't have to like Dubas, but give him credit where its due. It was pretty obvious the cap was going up and he clearly had a plan . It has been projected that the cap was going up for a while now, especially with the TV deal coming up for a renewal, new franchise in Seattle coming soon and other revenue streams coming in,of course it was going up. Suggesting that he's getting lucky, is rather ridiculous because it was common sense about where the cap was likely to go.

How come he didn't push for 8-year deals if he was so certain about this then?

Seems like it'll be on the lower end

The players have been decreasing the escalator for 3 or 4 years now with the end goal of having a 0% escalator because of escrow. There will still be tonnes of escrow because there's so many teams close to and over the cap using LTIR but it's almost a guarantee the escalator will be 0 IMO. This 84-88.2 estimate is an exact match for a 84 base to a 84+ 5% escalator. The cap will likely be around 84 million pending how close that estimate is to the final HRR numbers.

Nylander Kapanen Bracco good enough
Bracco doesn't even look like an NHL player. Marner is on pace for 90+ points for the second year in a row. I know I've been hard on him this year but other than Nylander and Matthews, there's no player on the Leafs capable of that. Trade Johnsson, Dermott and Kerfoot for cap space to sign AP if that's what you wanna do. Keep Marner unless you can get Jones for him (only D-man I'd consider moving him for).

The cap has basically gone up a minimum of $2M every year for like 10 years, several years more. $84 M is a very reasonable baseline bet.

If they can predict the future why didn't they predict the Kadri trade
Apples and oranges.
All markets have tendencies on how they will react, so reading a market and predicting how a trade will pan out are totally different. Also, and more importantly, the goal of the CBA is to make money for both parties involved, they just argue about how much of the pie each side gets.

You're asking for the moon dude. The tedious Dubas critics on here are incapable of giving him any due credit. You'd think he personally drowned their pets or shagged their wives their intolerance for him is so strong.

Any evidence Columbus would actually make that trade? I doubt it
