I seriously had to look him up. I didn’t find anything that would lead me to believe his is worth a 1st or a top prospect, let alone both.

It's amazing how there has been a salary cap for 17 years now and people still don't understand how it works and what assets have value. Especially after things like the Coleman deal.
Hagel is worth a fortune because of his contract.
No sir
Spot on. This is the value of an elite middle six forward who is still 23, does a bit of everything and has shown such tremendous growth that we still don't truly know what he's going to top out at - and getting that for $1.5 million a year for the next 2.5 years and you still get control of him after that sweetheart deal runs out. For a team that is going to be close to capped out to fill all kinds of holes for that cap hit is just so, so valuable.
I feel like the people who don't know who Hagel is are the same people who show up in Bryan Rust threads and ask "Who the heck is Bryan Rust"
I think it's safe to say Hagel is of high, high interest to competing teams.
- He will be 23 until August of ths year
- He's shown incredible growth every season
- He's on pace for 50 points with very little of that coming on the PP. If you want to say his shooting percentage is a bit high, fine - but he's got speed to burn and underrated skill and there's zero doubt he he's got 45-50 point middle six production in him on any team.
- Combine that with the versatility to play on both special teams units, a chippy-ness that belies his size and an industriousness and work ethic that is absolutely top notch with advanced possession metrics on a poor team that point to continued room for growth.
- He's making only $1.5 million for two more years after this year and is STILL and RFA after that.
The Goodrow comment I guess kind of applies in that maybe it would take either an outrageous trade or the "idea" here of an outrageous trade for people to actually look into who Brandon Hagel is except that Hagel is far younger, has far more upside and and has far more contract control than when Goodrow was shrewdly acquired by the Lightning and people flipped out that they gave up a 1st.
Hagel is exactly the type of player a smart GM is going to try to acquire before he becomes a "known" name and yeah, I do think those GM's are definitely asking Chicago about him.
Honestly not sure because I don’t want to get hf board crazy with a dumb ass askFair enough, what would it take to make the trade cross the line?
You claim "safe to say the guy is not getting traded", I say oh yeah sounds like the GM just wanted to put an end to people bothering him about the player, and so you ignore my point and pump the guys tires to the max and suggest there are tons of GMs interested in him. Make up your mind lol
He is cost controlled at a bargain for 1.5M/year for two more seasons after this one, and an excellent player. Why wouldn't it be a 1st round pick at minimum? If you're a contender with a hole in your middle 6 forwards, you jump on that.

The value of a low caphit contract needs to be put in perspective. For example, for the Avs it could be the difference in having to let Burakovsky walk in the offseason or being able to squeeze him in (along with Kuemper, Nichuskin, and Francouz). Is a high price in futures worth it if it enables you to keep a pending UFA instead of losing them for nothing?...Spot on. It was Brandon Bhagel. Ouf, what a lame joke.Damn, Montreal should have signed him when he was at their camp years ago.
Pretty sure it was him.
Yeah indeed, in 41 games played on a struggling Hawks team. I’d say that’s pretty good.
My guess is they would be open to pretty much everyoneWould you guys also be open to dealing Entwistle?
Did you see how Francis managed the expansion draft? He probably asked a 4th rounder for themWith this kind of ask for a player like this, an interesting dynamic is shaping up. Seattle has some guys similar to this (eg Jarkrok, Appleton) and they can start to become a factor in this. After hearing about this ask, you have to wonder how many GMs got Seattle on the phone. They could possibly have some power here.
