It's not really a depend on McDavid and Leon thing. It's just the teams modus operandi.

They suffer from Rocky Balboa'itis. They rarely like once in a blue f***ing moon take the bull by the horns and front run. They're chasers.. always have been always will be.

Since 2017 the Oilers have played 13 playoff series. Of them only 1 series.. ONE series have they played and not been down at some point. That was round 1 vs L.A last year. Every other series in the McDavid era they been down at least 1 game at some point.

This team can't find their game until they've been punched in the face

It’s pretty much a guarantee in the playoffs that we lose games 1,3 and 5. We’ve been pretty good in game 7’s during the Mcdavid era going 3-2.

Exactly. I don’t complain about preseason because I like to watch players that I seldom get to see. But icing a roster this unbalanced doesn’t seem very productive from an evaluation standpoint.

I would have 95% full rosters the last 3/4 games. Just pointless playing these rosters. Look how crap we were to start last year. We have new players. Need to find chemistry quick. Especially on D. I haven't watched any games. I just come here or check box scores

Other teams b teams put up good showings against other teams A- our A- gets obliterated by other teams b teams and our b teams get obliterated by other teams A-

Preseason ultimately doesn’t matter but it’s not fun to watch as a fan and shows how bad our org depth is

They went 5-2-1 last pre-season and then started the season 2-7-1. Maybe the Oilers have overcorrected this pre-season from last year where they tried to start the regular season intensity in September, but it's still early.

To be fair our McDavid and co lineup looked this bad against Calgarys AHL squad so it’s not even a lineup thing.

Knobblauch talked about it this morning. He wants the bigger name players to play around 4 more games which will be towards the end heading into the regular season and drai/skinner/arvidsson will be a line for likely 3 of those.

It absolutely does.
We have 2 dman spots to fill and no one looks like they should be near an NHL roster if the guys fighting for it. We have a 4c role to fill and honestly, just give it to Ryan.
We have guys who should be trying to earn call ups do to injuries.
This is the time of year for the tweeners and guys fighting jobs to grab that spot and it looks like it’ll go to guys who suck the least.

They know they overdid it last year. McDavid even said he overtrained and went too hard before the regular season started and he had no energy left when the games actually mattered.

Not sure if going the complete 180 is ideal either but last year sure didn’t work so I can see why they’re trying something different.

They’ve played one game with anything resembling a NHL roster and you could tell they were going at 25% in that game.
