BC slapped BU in the finals, they had a much better team

The are not and have never been comparable talents, Smith scored more points playing easier minutes with better linemates on a deeper team (and again is considerable older, Celebrini was 17 for his entire freshman season) but he has never demonstrated the level of commitment to defense that Celebrini has, Smith cheats for his offense and still only scored 7 more points in a far more advantageous situation and environment

Celebrini is not puck dominant, however, he simply commands touches by constantly being available and in position to recieve pucks in dangerous areas, but he doesn't monopolize possession, if anything he is unselfish to a fault
I mean Smith scored 4 goals while Celebrini did absolutely nothing until the game was already over.

Celebrini got plenty of easy matchups as well, and like I said earlier played 5 more minutes per game than Smith did. I guess the stamina to play that many minutes is impressive, but per minute production is important and Smith's was well clear of Celebrini last season.

We're talking about their play last year, I have no idea why you keep bringing up age.

Maybe because one of them was 15 months younger than the other?
I have never once said Smith is a better prospect than Celebrini, that person was just trying to argue that last season Smith at no point ever played as well as Celebrini which is just factually untrue.

If you're willing to divorce team context and deployment from the equation then you can argue Smith was better because he scored more points

If you're looking at the larger picture Celebrini was considerably better at every point of the season because he had more responsibility on a much worse team and scored at a comparable rate while also playing defense, something Smith does not do

I’m looking at the terms and conditions for the coupon from last night. Minimum purchase of $1.
Nice! Thanks!

Wonder what you can get for a dollar at Taco Bell... 59, 79, 99 cent menus are long gone. Only 3X as much these days... On their "value" menu they've got a "cheesy roll up" for 1.49.

Taco Bell should have sponsored Brent Burns' "starfish" maneuver as the "cheesy roll up" maneuver. Or, those walk up tweets from the Sharks with the pics of Sharks players in suits pre-game could also be labelled "cheesy roll up," Taco Bell's marketing dept sleeping on the job. :sarcasm:

This is why I wish there was accurate TOI data for juniors and college players. So much of scoring is opportunity. If Smith really did play 5 minutes less per night than Celebrini or when Eichel played then his season is a lot more impressive. TOI matters so much when comparing players. I’m sure the NHL teams track this for the players they scout.

Dan and Jamal Mayers like this Keane guy. I kinda like him too. Maybe the next Emberson? Keep the flame alive?

Very possible. I mentioned when Keane signed his PTO that he played for Warsofsky for a few games in Charlotte in 19-20, and then for him with the Chicago Wolves in 20-21 and 21-22 (the Wolves Championship team). I'm guessing Warsofsky loves him and he's got a better-than-decent shot to earn an NHL two-way contract. Not a guarantee to make the Sharks, let alone to even get a contract, but the history suggests Warsofsky is high on him.

Yeah ill try to find the infographic but from my recollection Smith played about 17:30 5v5 minutes per game while Macklin had 22ish of 5v5 minutes per game.

A lot of people are underselling how impressive Smith's (and his whole line for that matter) season was last year.

Literally no one is underselling his season, he lead the nation in scoring and was a Hobey Baker finalist as a freshman, it was truly an incredible year

That doesn't mean he was better than Celebrini, he was not and he is not, and that's not an insult, Celebrini he had one of the best draft year freshman seasons of all time

Both of these things can be true

I didn't say puck hog I said puck dominant, which is exactly how Toffoli described his game a couple days ago?

I mean Smith was given a much smaller role tonight than Celebrini was on Sunday. The PP wasn't running through him while Macklin was running the PP and hogging the puck all night.

I think your posts are coming off as bringing down Celebrini, rather than propping up Smith. Not sure if that’s the intent, but I think that’s why you’re getting so much pushback right now.

Speaking of Dan and Jamal, I really liked Jamal on the broadcast last night. I appreciate the Sharks bringing in new blood while keeping it in the family. I wonder how much longer Dan (And Randy for that matter) want to do this. They've been doing it for 30+ years already. Dan's longevity with the team has been remarkable and when he retires, they should give him a banner at SAP Center. He deserves it.

I've been watching the preseason to just watch individual players for the most part. While I was really entertained by Celebrini on Sunday, I just found Smith ok last night. He did seem a little tentative at first, but as the game went on he seemed to find his sea legs. It wasn't as noticeable as Celebrini, and I hope in the next few games we might see more "dress rehearsals" with the both of them out there together. Also, it is hard to watch these games the "Video Stream" way rather than the actual network. I will say last week I wasn't there in terms of excitement for the season. Tonight I'm starting to get really excited for the season. I'm trying to temper my expectations (Which is why reading posts already criticizing some of these guys, like Dickenson is kind of funny to me) because isn't this a season where watching the young guys develop is more important than anything else? They can't become hall of famers after 1 or 2 preseason games.

I wanted to echo this. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who raised an eyebrow; a former enforcer has the qualifications to be a commentator? The move reeked of "nepotism". But he was great; insightful with good timing.

My only problem with Mayers is that they refer to him as a former Shark when all I can see is him as a Blue.

My not so hot take is that Celebrini is the best player un21 in the NHL. Yes, I have him higher than Bedard. That has to do more with Celebrini being a more complete player. Bedard is an incredible scorer, but I think Celebrini could have a Messier type ceiling despite the differences in their play styles.
I feel like franchise two-way talent like Celebrini is not as interesting to the media like franchise goalscorer like Bedard. That is why I think the complete game of Celebrini has more of a chance to bring us a cup one day than Bedard would have. Celebrini will work every detail of the game to win. You basically have a Crosby, and we Sharks fans know what it means playing against him in the playoffs.
