Missed this one, how did Kampf, Kase, Ritchie & Joey Anderson look?

I did see Ritchie's fight :)

Kase was solid
Didn't like anyone else's game. Anderson non existence
Kampf scored a flukely goal other than that invisible
Ritchie was ok

Two legitimate top-6 forwards (Suzuki & Toffoli), one top-4 defenseman (granted he's a #1 in Petry), and a goalie who hasn't played well in the regular season in how long? The Leafs, the Panthers, and Boston are easily better and more balanced teams. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Ottawa take a step forward and leap this group.

You have an odd definition of what a top six forward is and isn't. But hey, to each their own. That team dummied the Leafs in the playoffs, so doesn't bode well for the blue and white.

You're the one claiming Holl is not a good #4D. I thought it would be easy for you to name a bunch you like better.
You know what? That is a fair question. Savard played tonight and as a premier 4d he didn’t look any better. Holl doesn’t suck, I just feel maybe others could have filled his spot decently and nepotism cost the team a solid player in McCann. I am probably wrong but producing a list of league wide 4d to compare to Holl is a bit of an ask. I’d be happy to hear your comparisons beyond stat lines and I mean that.

edit: I actually like your stat lines as they can be illuminating. I just was hoping for a more personal perspective as you were critiquing mine.

mikheyev was REALLY good, probably second best forward out there today.
kase looking strong. hes on the team
kampf looks strong out there muscling people around.
richie was ok ..
gusev is total trash. i have no idea what people see in this guy.
the bottom 6 guys (SDA, anderson, seney etc. ) accomplished nothing

defense wasnt that bad . people are exaggerating. they hardly gave up anything 5 on 5 besides a couple of bonehead breakaways.

Was that what Holl is going to bring this season? He looks worse now than he did 2 years ago. For me, its a pass on him being in the top 6 to start the season. I thought Liljegren was terrible in game 1, but he was amazing compared to Holl tonight.
Kase stood out to me... pretty clear he is an NHLer compared to a lot of the other guys on the roster tonight.
I was worried about Ritchie; I hadn't watched him much so I had a bit of a preconceived notion about his mobility and speed. Happy that I was wrong on both. He moves around very well, has nice size and we already knew he has some soft hands.
Looking forward to seeing him find his place in the lineup.
Campbell was awful... but it doesn't matter, he didn't get hurt and that's a win in itself
Mikheyev will never score again. :skeptic:

It’s preseason, the games are beyond meaningless and already people are criticizing players?

Pace yourselves, it’s a long season.

Holl and Dahlstrom gave up a breakaway or odd man rush on virtually every shift.

And to think we lost McCann to protect Justin “AHL defenseman without Muzzin” Holl, absolutely f***ing pathetic. Dubass is the worst GM in the league and it’s showing more and more every day.

Also, remember what I said about not drawing too many conclusions from the first preseason game, cause duds like this (more of what this team is capable of) are bound to happen.

Lol.
Anyway great game tonight. Marner, Ritchie, Kase and Kampf all played well. Holl was ok too.

I liked:

Kase (clearly a top 6/9 player if healthy)
Kampf (lots of smart plays...think fans will grow to love him over time)
Mikheyev
Semyenov (even with the penalties, he played well and is pretty well positioned on the ice. Decent size and speed...he can be something)
SDA (showed flashes. Always seems to play better in higher levels)

So you warned us not to draw too many conclusions from the 1st pre-season game which we won, but here you are after the 2nd pre-season game calling Holl an AHL defenseman and Dubas the worst GM of the league after we lost.

Your average Leafs fan, ladies and gentleman.

While no one or few will remember what you say if they guessed something negative then they will be right most of the time

He just changed his stance based on result. If we won, he would have said this game doesn't matter.
It's not a surprise for that crowd.

Chiarot has been a punching bag for leaf players.... simmonds split him open last year, this year Ritchie got an early uppercut in on him and he clutched as fast as he could. If leafs have simmonds, Gabriel and Ritchie in the lineup it's gonna be a tough year for him.

It's crazy because last season and the year before, if a leaf player was hit from behind, or our goalie was ran there typically would be no response. Imagine being a not so tough but physical player going into a game vs Leafs who have Gabriel, Simmonds and Gabriel vs going into a game without any tough guys. It's easy to see that players are likely to be more physical in a game where the payback is going to be lesser or non existant.

I'd rather see Gabriel on the ice than 41 year old Joe Thornton or Jimmy Vesey, Nic Petan or Malgin.

Anyone else very impressed with Der-Arguchintsev? Not to imply he's NHL-ready by any stretch, because he certainly isn't, but imo he showed a lot in terms of general playmaking ability - hands, vision, patience, creativity were all quite on point.

Agreed. I was impressed, he just needs a bit of seasoning. He has incredible vision, next to Marner he is definitely the best pure passer on the team... Very slick stickhandler as well. There is no rush to have him come up and play, just let him develop in the AHL. He's definitely not some Bracco clone, thats for sure.

Most would see Holl as a solid bottom pair defenseman. He’s a bit over his head in the middle pair. I think this year he moves down the lineup and the team will be better off for it.

Liking a bunch of the new adds. They are going to have a tough time coming up with an opening night roster.

Nikita Gusev has got to be one of the more interesting case study players that I have ever seen in my 30+ years of watching hockey.

In any other league or international tournament, he’s one of the most impactful, dominant players on the ice every shift, but, the moment he plays in an NHL game, he turns into a pumpkin and a guy who looks like he’s never played the game in his life. I honestly don’t know how to explain it. He looked so lost and out of place against the Habs last night.
