I am probably way too high on SDA, but I've thought for a couple of years now he has that he has the potential to be a really good fit on Matthews' wing.

Amirov - Matthews - SDA

looks good to me as a potential future line.

SDA looks bigger. But still needs another 2 years prolly in the AHL

Why are you or anyone analyzing a meaningless preseason game?

Nothing matters until Playoffs that has to be the leafs mantra ala 2018 Caps

Leafs are making the playoffs for sure. Whether it's 1st or 2nd wild card is redundant.

Leafs have shown playing a better team doesn't matter, playing a worse team doesn't matter.

Having home ice advance doesn't matter and not having home ice advance does matter

Leafs 1st round series will be a 7 game series vs Tampa or Boston most likely. Every game in the regular season will be more on the mental side and ability to get out on time, making the winning plays versus dominating the team in shot generation and/or blowing teams out

Those will happen for sure, but this season is a buildup until the playoffs and most likely till round 1 game 7 which will showcase if the teams grown or not

Getting to happy or upset over preseason games for the team and individual players is pointless and needlessly worrying for a fanbase that is already depressed out.

Not aiming this specifically at you. Just saying people need to watch and enjoy and if things are wrong as the season moves on then fine display displeasure. It's much much too early for any conclusions either way

Just threw them up after for fun. Don't be a killjoy. :silly:

Rielly at ES was excellent.

Rielly on PK was a bit of an adventure, although we didn't have a single "good" PKing defenseman today. It was a range of total disaster (Dahlstrom and Holl), to generally mediocre (Rubins and Menell). Rielly and Dermott were somewhere in between. Had a few bad plays, one which led to a goal, but were generally fine otherwise.

I feel like people got hung up on a few highlights, and especially that one goal against, which overrode the fact that Rielly was the best defenseman on either team by a large margin today.

Yeah you might be right, but it's hard to say with Rielly sometimes. As a point of reference, a guy like Brodie is usually solid night after night, but with Rielly you get more highlights and you get more hectic moments. At this point in time, he's an underpaid defenseman but then I wonder what life would be like if we paid him $8 million +.

It's a big if, but if Kase is healthy I'm pretty sure hes going to find a way to play in the top six this year. Guy can play.

i'm saying the "true fans" will just regurgitate whatever the current GM says regardless of what it is
That's valid. As fans it can be difficult maintaining objectivity when you really want to convince yourself of the half full view of the team and its management.

Well, like you said, Kase looks like a good heads up player who jumps into gaps and gets into messy areas to make opportunistic plays. Galchenyuk was like that too, trying to be a dogged forechecker, create chaos and be a tenacious player.
Kase was and has always been a better player than Galchenyuk

Based on today, I think Dahlstrom and Seney are certainly getting cut. I think they were already in the situation where, short of completely standing out, they were gone anyways. They stood out only in a bad way today.

Anderson, Rubins, and SDA made some solid plays, but I don't think they really are changing anyone's minds based on today. I think they get another game, but most likely will be in the second wave of cuts based on today (which may be a good thing to let Anderson slip through waivers).

Gusev and Simmonds did not do themselves any favours today. Simmonds was kind of just a passenger to Mikheyev and Semyonov. As a fringe guy who saw Brooks and Semyonov just have very strong games, he better be worried about his job security. Gusev may be a part of the first wave of cuts if the coaching staff do not feel like he had more to give than he did today, because he was not really that noticeable at all.

Menell did well. Kampf was very impressive. Holl was very disappointing, but will be given more chances obviously. Mrazek did much better than Campbell, but Campbell did not really look all that bad despite the goals against. The rest did very well for the most part, but that should not come as any surprise.

Dahlstrom, Seney, and Gusev are the guys who I think get cut based on today alone.

Guys it's a pre season game it's pointless

so your idea is for every team to guess what a quarter of there starting line is going to be going into the year or what lines each player should be on ?

how else would you know that gusev is complete garbage and we can finally shutdown these people that say he should be in the opening night roster ? playing with tavares no less....

Felt like Merrell always had the puck on his stick. Liked his game today. Marner, Kase and Mikey at times were good. Simmonds was a no show Disappointed Ritchie didn’t play with more fire in his debut. That was his knock in Boston. We will see.

Habs had an overall edge in PP time but final stats from the game:

Corsi: 69-34 Leafs
Shots: 37-21 Leafs
Scoring Chances: 41-22 Leafs
High Danger Chances: 12-10 Leafs

Good game overall that helped expose some obvious plugs that are going to be in the first round of cuts. Really like that Kase, Ritchie and Kampf showed what they are capable of bringing this season.

Like I said. Same old shit

So 6 points in his last 15 playoff games like Crosby? Not even making the playoffs like Kane? He finished top ten in Selke voting....what are you going on about?
What a stupid argument. Because one guy can make his team get into the playoffs. Both sid and kane have playoff mvp trophies and multiple cups.

The guy we exposed Jared McCann for basically sucks?
Can’t expose Hollsy tho. The boys love Hollsy.

Holl is a solid 2M defenseman that can play a lot of defensive minutes pretty well.

We finally have a good defensive core and people can't stop whining that they didn't keep a middle line forward. Almost like dementia has been hitting a lot of people about what the defensive core was 3-5 years ago.

....so Crosby has just been a gutless quitter the last 3 years? Right? Right?

Had nothing to do with injuries or goaltending differential. Personally, I'm locking him in as 2nd line center on team Canada.

Marner haters look like cartoon characters to me more and more.
I hate Playoff Marner, but really like Regular Season Marner. He had a good game tonight. Anyone saying he didn't are just haters with no justification.

All in all, not a bad game by the team. Special teams sucked, defence was below average, but that's to be expected in the second pre-season game. Begin the cuts tomorrow...may I suggest Dahlstrom, Seney, Anderson, Rubins, and Gusev for a start. None grabbed the bull by the horns and showed they wanted it bad enough.

That's valid. As fans it can be difficult maintaining objectivity when you really want to convince yourself of the half full view of the team and its management.

We don't have a good defensive core. We may have a better defensive core than years prior but not a good one

Our D seriously lacks mobility and physicality. We don't have a legit point man on PP. Reilly can't shoot and Muzzin can't carry

Our D at best is above average

New guys Kase and Ritchie were solid, not great or anything. Dermott played alright as a top pairing defenseman. Rest of the regulars were solid to good as you'd expect.

For the people fighting for jobs, Brooks was very average playing a little too high in the lineup (he's a placeholder for Matthews). Dahlstrom was awful. Menell and SDA were very good. Gusev had a below average game for a PTO. Rest were all meh to ok I guess.
