Thats because the NHL is the best league in the world.Nikita Gusev has got to be one of the more interesting case study players that I have ever seen in my 30+ years of watching hockey.
In any other league or international tournament, he’s one of the most impactful, dominant players on the ice every shift, but, the moment he plays in an NHL game, he turns into a pumpkin and a guy who looks like he’s never played the game in his life. I honestly don’t know how to explain it. He looked so lost and out of place against the Habs last night.
you see it all the time. Mikko Lehtonen was another example. the Finnish Bobby Orr they called him I recall. yeah he couldn't hold down a spot and I dont think he did much better in Columbus either.
