What about simply upgrading ZAR as 4th line left winger? Is there someone out there who is cheap and better than ZAR?

He's a solid 4th liner though - not hurting us at all. I think ideally we keep him as a 4LW and slot an upgrade over Kerfoot on 2/3 LW? Unless you'd rather have Kerfoot as the 4LW to replace him?

Yesterday's game against Calgary only fed my unrequited love for Weegar, and how good he would have looked on our 1RHD.....

Too rich now but <heavy sigh>
Panthers wanted to trade Weegar to Toronto, back in October 2020.

They wanted Travis Dermott and Andreas Johnsson for him.

Corey Perry wanted to sign with the leafs also in the 2020 offseason but dubas chose Wayne Simmonds instead.

What do you think his ceiling is? I'm more concerned about his age than I am GP.

That's hard to say. He could be a second pairing guy, if his whole game comes back, and he continues his progress. RD are the hardest players to find... I just don't think it makes sense, when there are other assets that we could use to obtain what you are looking for.

Is there any indication that Ottawa is looking to move on from Kastelic?

Call me crazy, but I wonder if Elias Lindolm could be a target for the Leafs. His cap hit is manageable, and I think if hit is 50% retained it could be possible. He has 2 playoff runs left on his current deal, which is so on brand for Kyle Dubas. I know the acquisition cost would be high, but Calgary might be interested in selling given their current situation. I have absolutely no clue what it would take to get him on blue and white, but if he is available I think we have to at least inquire. He is a hell of a player and very responsible in all 3 zones. Not to mention he is a proven playoff performer (5G + 4A, 9PTS in 10GP last year)

To Calgary:
Holl, Robertson/Niemela, Boston 2023 1st, 2024 5th

To Toronto:
Elias Lindholm @ 50% retention

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Tavares - Lindholm - Nylander (Swedish connection)
Kerfoot - O'Rielly - Jarnkrok
Lafferty - Kampf - Aciarri
McMann

Brodie - McCabe
Rielly - Schenn
Gio - Lilly

Benn/Timmins/Gus

I get it, pipe dream. But at the end of the day, if Elias Lindholm is available, we need to pick up that phone

Only time will tell, I'd obviously kill for Knies to be a better prospect.

Caufield's offensive advantage was so large though, it overcomes(at the same age) what Knies has in an advantage.

He torched the Jets and Knights in the playoffs, even if he was the worst defensive player in the league.
I don't think Knies has to be better than Caufield. One was a mid first round pick, the other was a late second rounder. He just needs to be more effective than ZAR, which he can easily be. If he can step into a 3rd or 4th line role and bring some physicality and a scoring touch, that's plenty

Lindholm is such an underrated player. He’s fantastic.

They should just do a quick recap show about what happened. It’s called “sportscentre” I believe.
I suspect they still get enough viewership and hence ad money that it makes them worth doing. When you consider the normal daytime programming on TSN and SN, I think they definitely draw a lot more. I think a lot of people have one of them on in the background as they do other things..

But nobody's forcing you to watch them. Is having these shows on the air affecvting you in some way?

I really dislike the casual nature of Sportsnet coverage (of this and games). Call me old fashioned but I'd rather see my analysts sitting at a desk rather then lounge chairs

Leafs don't need a savior, Knies isn't needed to do anything.

The question is whether he can play in the NHL this year.

Great if yes, not a big deal if no.

Is he a great asset ... well it isn't like he was ever mentioned as a must have in any trade proposal ... cake eaten and still cake.

No but there is a lot of reporting that they need a RHD and it makes a ton of sense for the Leafs to flip an NHL RD for a NHL capable forward who can be stashed in the AHL. Ottawa is also flush with young centers with Norris/Stu/Pinto/Greig.

He's so good. I really like the way he plays/thinks the game. Again, I have no clue what his availability is, but he's 100% a guy that could propel us to the next level of contender. People always talk about "what's our Khawi move"

to me, that would be a "Khawi" move, and if we could have him for 2 playoff runs at just over 2 mill, it's a no brainer.

JT looked good on the wing IMO, and Lindholm is as good a 2C as any in the league. It would be a dream to see that come to life
