I sort of agree that too much change can be unsettling. But I don't get why we'd hold onto Bostons pick. It's not all-in if we have 1sts in the next two drafts and all our top prospects. This is still half measures.
You only need him in the minors this season - assuming the Leafs want to make one more move it frees up 850k in salary. In terms of next season I am not optimistic that the Leafs will retain Kampf because I see him getting more than 2M which the Leafs shouldn’t pay for a 4C. Kastelic also brings a completely different identity than Kampf - more along the lines of a Acciari than a Kampf. He isn't waiver eligible after this year... Kastelic, so after this year, you can't stash him in the AHL. I don't think he makes an impact here for us this year. Kampf is a good 4C... and I get we play him 3C minutes, but he's a 4C... I hope he's extended. RoR/Holmberg... either are good for a 3C... I just don't see the need at the moment, unless Kampf walks. Kastelic isn't nearly as effective as Kampf.
The Leafs currently have 6 NHL signed for next year including Timmins. I could see them retaining Schenn for a Gio type deal. Not necessarily though when considering the amount of pending UFAs at that spot (the blueline in totality).
Backlund would provide the biggest Impact.I like Toffoli or Backlund with some retention. Though I’m not sure retaining makes much sense for them.
Would love if we did this. Ontario boy, big and physical and will score 20+ goals this year. Just wish he had more term.Still think Crouse should be our #1 target.
To Toronto-
Crouse
To Arizona-
2023 1st Round Pick (Boston)
2025 2nd Round Pick
Alex Kerfoot
Erik Gustafsson
so then kerfoot should get a first and a third back.Solid D, physical and he can score goals. He paces for 20+ every year. He comes in as a rounded middle-6 forward at a fixed cost, the same way McCabe was.
You could argue McCabe is of higher importance. You could argue Vatrano isn't good enough for a pick that high. Both fair points.
2 misrepresentations of the truth, but whatever.....Panthers wanted to trade Weegar to Toronto, back in October 2020.
They wanted Travis Dermott and Andreas Johnsson for him.
Corey Perry wanted to sign with the leafs also in the 2020 offseason but dubas chose Wayne Simmonds instead.
Backlund at 33...damn these live threads are awful, thing skips all over the place...and his cap hit might not bring back as much as the other two, just my guess. Toffili is on a heater, more experienced, but I kinda like Dube. Production has gone up three years running, he's at 38 points, 17 goals - which to me indicates he can distribute, though I don't know primary v secondary - and he's thrown over 100 hits this year. At 25, an RFA the year after next and signed for 2.3M, ya, I think I could see him fitting a role at 2LW.I like Toffoli or Backlund with some retention. Though I’m not sure retaining makes much sense for them.
Crouse has 4 years left after this yearWould love if we did this. Ontario boy, big and physical and will score 20+ goals this year. Just wish he had more term.
How is holding onto the 1st past this trade deadline "half measures"? LMFAO!!!I sort of agree that too much change can be unsettling. But I don't get why we'd hold onto Bostons pick. It's not all-in if we have 1sts in the next two drafts and all our top prospects. This is still half measures.
Sounds better to have seven d-men rather than just six. I also think Schenn and Timmins could end up playing (vastly?) different roles (PK for the former, potentially PP for the latter). The Leafs currently have 6 NHL signed for next year including Timmins. I could see them retaining Schenn for a Gio type deal.
He would be a wonderful addition for sure. I think the cost would be higher, and we don't have the cap room for him, with the deal as suggested. We have to sign Knies at $925k, and adding him @50% would be $2.425 addition, with only $2 mil going out. So we'd be ~$421 over the cap.Call me crazy, but I wonder if Elias Lindolm could be a target for the Leafs. His cap hit is manageable, and I think if hit is 50% retained it could be possible. He has 2 playoff runs left on his current deal, which is so on brand for Kyle Dubas. I know the acquisition cost would be high, but Calgary might be interested in selling given their current situation. I have absolutely no clue what it would take to get him on blue and white, but if he is available I think we have to at least inquire. He is a hell of a player and very responsible in all 3 zones. Not to mention he is a proven playoff performer (5G + 4A, 9PTS in 10GP last year)
To Calgary:
Holl, Robertson/Niemela, Boston 2023 1st, 2024 5th
To Toronto:
Elias Lindholm @ 50% retention
Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Tavares - Lindholm - Nylander (Swedish connection)
Kerfoot - O'Rielly - Jarnkrok
Lafferty - Kampf - Aciarri
McMann
Brodie - McCabe
Rielly - Schenn
Gio - Lilly
Benn/Timmins/Gus
I get it, pipe dream. But at the end of the day, if Elias Lindholm is available, we need to pick up that phone
LOL, I read his contract at Capfriendly wrong. Thanks for the correction.Crouse has 4 years left after this year
He didn’t say that. Read the post. He’s saying half measures in regards of holding the 1st we traded for. LmafaoHow is this trade deadline "half measures"? LMFAO!!!
No thanks. It's a reference to a past slow trade deadline day show. I think I'll keep it.A silly idea that they tried 16 years ago. Maybe you could make a more relvant reference.
Because we're going to go into the playoffs with either Jarnkrok as our 2nd line LW or Kampf as our 3C, both of which are massive holesHow is this trade deadline "half measures"? LMFAO!!!

Well, trading the first for vatrano is definitely a half measure with that 1st.He didn’t say that. Read the post. He’s saying half measures in regards of holding the 1st we traded for. Lmafao
I agree - they will need 7D next season but if Timmins isn’t in the top 6 because Schenn is there he won’t be playing PP. There’s also a chance they just use Kral or Rifai as the 7D or sign of a vet for league minimum.Sounds better to have seven d-men rather than just six. I also think Schenn and Timmins could end up playing (vastly?) different roles (PK for the former, potentially PP for the latter).
