He would be a wonderful addition for sure. I think the cost would be higher, and we don't have the cap room for him, with the deal as suggested. We have to sign Knies at $925k, and adding him @50% would be $2.425 addition, with only $2 mil going out. So we'd be ~$421 over the cap.
You are most likely right. I am actually OK with adding more to that package though. Lindholm could really be a game changer for us, and the fact that we'd have 2 runs with him in the lineup is the reason I'd feel comfortable making an aggressive futures heavy offer for him.

Knies is our most prized asset. One that I would not move at any cost. He just fills too much of a need long term for us. But Niemela, Robertson, Abruzesse, Greboynkin...etc...literally any other prospect or collection of prospects and picks I would make available to see Lindholm in Blue and White.

Obviously Timmins just resigned, and optically it may look bad to move him. But f*** at the end of the day, if that was a player Calgary needed to make this deal happen, you shake his hand and call him a limo to get his ass to Pearson INTL.

My point being, if Lindholm is available, which may or may not be true. We need to be in on that.

Honestly don’t think JVR would be a bad move. Should cost about a 3rd. Chemistry with Marner.

JVR-Tavares-Marner could be money. Toss JVR on pp2 in front of the net

Pretty big gamble, 20 year old who's never played an NHL game going head to head against the team who's taken the east 3 years in a row for his first taste.
Tampa seems to have no problem plugging rookies/young players into their playoff lineups.

No thanks on JVR. Too slow and poor defensively at this point in his career. Right now we have 4 lines that I’m comfortable out on the ice in any situation.
A JVR-Tavares-Marner line would need to be sheltered defensively

Would anyone have any interest in bringing back JVR for a mid round pick to play line 3, or is he unanimously disliked?
My issue with JVR is that he's a one-trick pony, and he's also slowed down from the injuries over the years. Terrible defensively, not really good in transition either, pretty much just a guy who you use within 6 ft of the net cause he has soft hands and good reach. And as we know, he was never particularly physical for a guy of his size. He'd basically come in as a PP specialist at this point.

JVR would be decent. If he can find magic on the PP again that would be huge. God knows how our powerplay has let us down in the playoffs in recent years. However is he gonna be that much better than Knies?

Would be funny if a decade after being traded for each other Schenn and JVR are on the same Leafs team.

Kinda trying to figure out how to fit that $7 million cap hit in, and is he really worth paying for double retention?
