No thanks. It's a reference to a past slow trade deadline day show. I think I'll keep it.
In any event, while I don't think the approach they took that year worked. I thought the idea of trying to create a circus sort of atmosphere around the deadline show was an interesting one. It wan't as though they used Eklund in a serious deadline straightforward deadline show. But to each their own.

I sort of agree that too much change can be unsettling. But I don't get why we'd hold onto Bostons pick. It's not all-in if we have 1sts in the next two drafts and all our top prospects. This is still half measures.

That is just dumb. If they manage to stack the team without giving up those picks and prospects they are still all in.

You only need him in the minors this season - assuming the Leafs want to make one more move it frees up 850k in salary. In terms of next season I am not optimistic that the Leafs will retain Kampf because I see him getting more than 2M which the Leafs shouldn’t pay for a 4C. Kastelic also brings a completely different identity than Kampf - more along the lines of a Acciari than a Kampf.

It's a decision that I think can wait until the summer to be honest. See where Kampf is, then fill needs from there. We don't need him now, Ottawa wouldn't use Timmins either... so, it can wait.

The trade is most beneficial right now though because you clear cap space for today. I also think Kastelic would be more likely to play on the Leafs roster in the playoffs than Timmins given the current log jam on D.

so then kerfoot should get a first and a third back.

Vatrano is not a middle 6. He's firmly bottom six.
Vatrano has paced for 19-26 goals and between 37-41 points for the past 5 seasons. That is middle-6 production. He also has an earlier season at a 19 goal, 34 point pace.

If Kerfoot played physically and scored 20 goals a year and was retained on for the next 2 seasons after this one, bringing him in at 1.825M per. Then, maybe he does?

If they keep the pick and make a selection... Nothing wrong with that either... You still need to draft and develop as well. Now if Dubas turns down a deal that is too good to be true for that 1st. Ok ya that wouldn't be good. But if he turns down trash and he (or his successor) makes the pick in the summer nothing wrong with that either.

I'm just preparing for the inevitable meltdown by some here in a few hours if it's not used. "How didn't he use it?! He didn't do enough!" Honestly he's done more than enough. Like 2.5 deadlines worth of deals. He's changed 30% of the team. Make the deal if it moves the needle (and who even knows if there is one that exists out there. takes two to tango). Not for the sake of it burning a hole in your pocket.

Leafs shouldn’t move the 1st just for the sake of it. If they can get upgrade packaging it with Kerfoot go for it, but it takes two to tango and while, for example, Konecny and Boeser would (hypothetically) be good adds Philly and Vancouver would have to want to part with them. Canucks are stupidly trying to compete so the 1st and Kerfoot wouldn’t help, and Konecny is on a good contract, scores, and plays with tenacity so Philly has no real incentive to move him.

I’m looking at TSN’s trade bait board and none of those guys on it besides Boeser would warrant a 1st round pick out the door. Maybe there’s someone on the market the insiders don’t know about but we aren’t privy to that information.
