Having the Gophers eliminated early would help answer a lot of questions.

Would love to get Knies in for 10 games as opposed to 1-3.

Number one ranked team... Of the 16 teams, 6 conference champions will receive automatic qualification with the remaining best 10 teams being selected on an at-large basis by the Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee. The current number one team, will absolutely be invited, even if they aren't conference champions. Regional play starts March 23rd. If they lost the first game, Knies could get in 11 games. If they lost in round 2, he could get in 9 games. If they get to the frozen four, earliest elimination sees him get 4 games max... if they go to the Championship, maybe 3 games.

Timmins will be 25 by the time next season starts and he has to jump 3 players to make the lineup for the rest of this season. I like him, I was very high on him after his first 10 games as a Leaf but some of the shine has worn off for me. I see a benefit in getting a RS 4C that doesn't require waivers, is signed for 2.5 seasons under 900k and plays a heavy game with good advanced numbers.
Well, he should be able to jump Holl with no problems. If the Nuge can feed it to him, I’m sure Timmins can slap him around too. :sarcasm:

I think Calgary has to realize its season is close to an end and that they'll have to do some housework for next year. They have 1.3M cap space with 18 players signed. They have clear some space. I think it will be one of Dube or Toffoli. All things considered I'd be interested in either one.

I hope they hold all their assets and go for it.

Bruins have $2.8mm in space, and you know they won't be passing up an opportunity to improve their line-up with Hall out.

Didnt Cole Caufield leave college and go right into the NHL for the playoffs?
Yes. He left after his sophomore year just like Knies. He put up 1 goal/game in his NCAA season and 0.2 G/GP in the playoffs. If you read across that ratio to Knies you're looking at .12 G/GP or roughly 1G/8GP.

He's about to be 25 with 63 career games. He's getting into the plateau territory.

You need more patience. You don't plateau after 63 career games as a D, particularly with how spread out it was.

Then why even say what you said here? The other poster lumped everyone into the same NCAA bucket and you agreed.
Your Knies takes are baffling. You've strawman'd that one for a long time. No one expects him to come in a be a star. But his skillset is intriguing, and something the Leafs lack.

If they are leaving cap space to sign him, they want to see him play.

Why even say it? To temper expectations? To suggest that Knies may not be capable of playing at top09 role this year and we may not want to count on him for that?

Do you really need me to clarify this? I haven't even given you my 'take' of him. I merely suggest he may not be ready this year and you flip your tricycle at the very thought he's being called a bust. I've mentioned this before, yes. Clearly triggers people. Not sure why.

Speaking in definites. Not sure how you can come to that conclusion.

One thing is for sure, he’s a hell of a lot smaller and less developed than Knies.

I love Knies as much as the next guy, but Caufield was 100% a better prospect at the same age.

He was putting up nutty numbers.

I know it's unlikely, but I'm still hoping that Dubas can move a defenceman and acquire a physical winger that can play in the middle six.

Sheary is someone that I can see the Leafs trying to get at the last minute if other things don't work out. Plays bigger than he is and works hard. Definitely not someone you give up much for though.

Also Anaheim is weirdly super quiet.

Really surprised that Klinberg hasn't been dealt yet

That is my hope as well - more an expectation really. If it doesn't happen it's going to be quite puzzling especially with how good of a TDL Dubas has had so far.

Huh?

How can you come to any conclusion BUT that?

He was one goal shy of a goal per game in college that season. He paced for 46 goals this season before he got injured.

He was undoubtedly better than Knies as a prospect and absolutely proving it with his NHL production so far.

I've gone down this road here before - it's both highly debatable (obviously) and highly contentious.

Are the talking heads still awake? I imagine the discussion must be riveting.

With Knies I think the bigger issue isn't being ready it's being trusted. We've seen Keefe scratch guys for vets like Holl for Lilly last year. Knies even if he is good, would Keefe trust him over a Kerfoot? I don't think so
At a minimum I’m pretty sure that Knies can do what ZAR does up and down the wing and use his big body effectively. I saw him live at penn st twice (there’s a local kid playing there) and he was physically imposing man among boys. Looks nhl ready to me.Any offence would a big bonus. I get the trust issue but if he gets 2 or 3 games pre playoffs he might ease some of Keefe concerns
