They already moved Sandin because there was no playing time, Timmins is now the odd man out.
But I'm not sure that Timmins was expected to play in the playoffs and he may have been well aware of tha t when he signed. Sandin, on the other hand, clearly considered himself to be a major part of the Toronto D-corps -- based on his holdout last fall and the rumored request for a trade. I think we're clearly lookind at two very different situations and player expectations.

There is room to re-sign Schenn or find another dime-a-dozen d-man in UFA, too. They'd have to really like Timmins to hurt their chances this year on a guy who was a minor league trade away from waivers.

Hell, at this point I could see the Leafs waiving him if they bring in a forward without moving a D. Is he really that much more of an asset than Anderson?
Being extended for two years was a hint in my eyes, but I suppose anything’s possible.
Next year there’s a whole season to integrate young players and another deadline to add if needed.

I feel like we need one more scorer.
I love Knies and all, but hate pinning hopes on him scoring right away.

I think Calgary has to realize its season is close to an end and that they'll have to do some housework for next year. They have 1.3M cap space with 18 players signed. They have clear some space. I think it will be one of Dube or Toffoli. All things considered I'd be interested in either one.

You haven't really followed Timmins career have you? He was a stud prospect and was seen as a key piece of the Avs future D. When he did play he looked good but unfortunately he couldn't stay healthy, and eventually was moved in the package for Kuemper (which many Avs fans were upset about). He got injured some more and Arizona is also a clown show organization so he wanted to leave, and Dubas fleeced Armstrong for him. He's finally healthy now and has looked good whenever he's in the lineup.

Timmins is very talented and has lots of potential, he just needs to actually play, but if he comes close to anything he was touted to be we have a potential top pairing D on our hands. The Leafs also have few up and coming players for the future and they already traded Sandin so it would be foolish to get rid of Timmins too and be left with bare cupboards.

These all sounds like open-ended ambiguous answers. Dubas has surprised a lot of people this deadline so I wouldn't lean one way or the other in terms of what he will or won't do.
I think there is some reading between the lines with what Bob is saying though.

He’s on a national broadcast where the Leafs are the biggest draw. If he is saying that, he is most definitely leaning that way.

If he had a bias, it would be to drum up interest not cool it down.

Abruzzeze sobered my expectations last year of college pickups.

Extremely low chance Knies does anything for the Leafs this season outside a cup of coffee after signing.
You know there are ways to evaluate players beyond looking at what league they played in right?

Sandin didn’t show much progression in his game and expected 20 minutes of ice time. He has skills but is smaller than average with average skating and prone to defensive lapses.

I like Toffoli or Backlund with some retention. Though I’m not sure retaining makes much sense for them.

This is a minority opinion regarding Knies but it's extremely valid. Most college FA propects don't really have an impact. There are of course exceptions - we know them all - but for every one of them there are 2, 3, or 4 Christian Hansons. Knies I would expect to be a part of the team next year but sincerely doubt he can contribute significantly this year.

Sounds too good to be true of our current 9th best dman, might want to pump the brakes a little.

If he is re-signed when would you want it to be?
After they know what it would take to re-sign ROR, or even after finding out if ROR wants to re-sign. Not rocket science.

IMO, Bunting is a dime a dozen player with most of success coming off the back and hands of his linemates. They are the last ones you worry about re-signing.

I am all aboard the Kastelic for Timmins train. Strong defensive 4C to replace Kampf, he can still be sent down without waivers, under contract for 2 seasons after this at 835k. Ottawa needs capable RHD, Timmins can fill that for them.

Knies is not a college FA. He is a Leafs 2nd round draft pick.

They are not the same player. Not even close.

Don't we already have a strong 4C to replace Kampf in Holmberg?

No one is saying they are the same player.
