I am all aboard the Kastelic for Timmins train. Strong defensive 4C to replace Kampf, he can still be sent down without waivers, under contract for 2 seasons after this at 835k. Ottawa needs capable RHD, Timmins can fill that for them.
OMG.

Block. Nonis looks like Einstein compared to all the moves.

I just can't see so much fail anymore.

Poor trade deadline panel. This seems like a lot of shit I do at work that everyone knows is a huge check mark more than anything else

With Knies I think the bigger issue isn't being ready it's being trusted. We've seen Keefe scratch guys for vets like Holl for Lilly last year. Knies even if he is good, would Keefe trust him over a Kerfoot? I don't think so

But I'm not sure that Timmins was expected to play in the playoffs and he may have been well aware of tha t when he signed. Sandin, on the other hand, clearly considered himself to be a major part of the Toronto D-corps -- based on his holdout last fall and the rumored request for a trade. I think we're clearly lookind at two very different situations and player expectations.
Sandin was moved because of his holdout and slow progression in development.

he’s going to crush it on the PP in Washington but might not play more than third pairing minutes.
basically a Tobias Enstrom.

After they know what it would take to re-sign ROR, or even after finding out if ROR wants to re-sign. Not rocket science.

IMO, Bunting is a dime a dozen player with most of success coming off the back and hands of his linemates. They are the last ones you worry about re-signing.
I completely disagree. How many players would you legitimately trust to play top 6 LW on this team? Bunting isn't a great player but he has been a good fit with Matthews. I'm not vouching for giving him over 4M but I'm vouching for keeping him long term. I have been preaching a 3.75Mx8 deal for awhile (30M). That would pay him below the theoretical league average (82.5M/20=4.125M).

You haven't really followed Timmins career have you? He was a stud prospect and was seen as a key piece of the Avs future D. When he did play he looked good but unfortunately he couldn't stay healthy, and eventually was moved in the package for Kuemper (which many Avs fans were upset about). He got injured some more and Arizona is also a clown show organization so he wanted to leave, and Dubas fleeced Armstrong for him. He's finally healthy now and has looked good whenever he's in the lineup.

Timmins is very talented and has lots of potential, he just needs to actually play, but if he comes close to anything he was touted to be we have a potential top pairing D on our hands. The Leafs also have few up and coming players for the future and they already traded Sandin so it would be foolish to get rid of Timmins too and be left with bare cupboards.

Worth noting Timmins has only 63 NHL games played as well .. and because of his injuries, he isn't waiver exempt so they can't send him down to refine his game.

They'll have to develop him at the NHL level and his recent play illustrates why he just isn't quite ready for regular playoff action.

I could see him being dealt for a forward in a similar contract position. Wade Allison makes sense - the Flyers need a 3RD for next year and the Leafs could use Allison next year when his AAV will be under league minimum. Zetterlund in SJ might be a fit too assuming his next deal is similar to Timmins.

Edit: Kastelic would be an excellent target in a Timmins trade too. Both are under contract for 2 seasons after this. Kastelic is 1 year younger than Timmins and plays C decently well. He has been a positive defensive player at the NHL level and he hits a ton.
I’d think he’s likely to stay based on the extension and outlook for next year; but I’d agree that anything’s possible if the projection is similar at a different position (age, contract, impact).

Don't we already have a strong 4C to replace Kampf in Holmberg?
I see Holmberg as more than a 4C personally. I truly think he can play on a 3rd line. I see the benefit of keeping a 4th line into next year that plays like the current amalgamation of ZAR-Acciari-Lafferty can.

Good riddance.

Sounds too good to be true of our current 9th best dman, might want to pump the brakes a little.
He's played like ~70 career games because he's been hurt lol he's not playing because they want to bring him along slowly, again do you know anything about the guy or what he's been through? Go ask Avalanche fans what they think, they still speak of him in high regard.

Getting a NHL forward that doesn't require waivers would create a lot of flexibility.

No one is saying they are the same player.
Then why even say what you said here? The other poster lumped everyone into the same NCAA bucket and you agreed.
Your Knies takes are baffling. You've strawman'd that one for a long time. No one expects him to come in a be a star. But his skillset is intriguing, and something the Leafs lack.

If they are leaving cap space to sign him, they want to see him play.

There are always 4th. line centers available in the summer.

Timmins is more prospect than player at this stage, but he's shown he can play RD in the NHL.

His value next year could be much higher than it is today if he gets playing time.
Less need to sign a Mete calibre player.

Sheary is someone that I can see the Leafs trying to get at the last minute if other things don't work out. Plays bigger than he is and works hard. Definitely not someone you give up much for though.

Also Anaheim is weirdly super quiet.

He probably only needs to beat out ZAR.
We've also seen Keefe trust Robertson and Sandin in the playoffs at a young age, and I think Knies plays a way more mature game than they did

Name some rookies that made an impact in the playoffs after joining a team after their college season ended
Funny enough, Chris Kreider is the perfect example. He also happens to be a best case scenario for Knies' development path.

Timmins will be 25 by the time next season starts and he has to jump 3 players to make the lineup for the rest of this season. I like him, I was very high on him after his first 10 games as a Leaf but some of the shine has worn off for me. I see a benefit in getting a RS 4C that doesn't require waivers, is signed for 2.5 seasons under 900k and plays a heavy game with good advanced numbers.

Certainly more than throwing him away for a 4th line plug.

Vast potential, have to see if he reaches it before tossing him for a dime a dozen player.
He's about to be 25 with 63 career games. He's getting into the plateau territory.
