Meh as soon as some of the old guard leaves Pk will be on the team ,ditto for Stone he is better than Perry now

The old boy's club will falter, maybe even this tournament, and the next set of brass will be more open to bringing in younger players. NOt just the horses that got them there before.

Can we cool it with the Pernell threads?

Or- barring that- at least wait for Canada to fail before second-guessing the team they assembled?

My guess is someone forgot to forward them the spreadsheet that proves Subban is a better player. :sarcasm:

Whatever the reasons, it's not like they look like they need help on D right now.

The thing is, Team Canada could put Tie Domi on the team (Domi today) and still likely win the whole thing.

You can't take a country with the depth to create four dominant teams and say, "Oh, they didn't make a mistake because they didn't add this one guy"

Team Canada wins despite itself.

Id happily take Vlasic over Subban on his off-side.

Id have taken Subban over Weber.

As for your question, I think its because Babcock and the rest of the Team Canada management arent fans of how Subban plays and dont trust him to pit the team before his desire to build his own brand.

Yeah... why not over Bouwmeester if you're playing that game? You're trying to stir ****, that's why.

Canada is so deep that they could probably field a second competitive team. That means that excellent players will inevitably be left off no matter who gets chosen and some ppl (often fans of the teams the players are/were on or fans of the player) will have legitimate arguments for why that player is better than player X who made the team. But that's true no matter which players the TC brass chooses. There will always be players that have arguments for why they should be on the team over players who made the team. By that logic, TC can never pick the best team and critics can always say that TC wins despite itself.

Is that you, Rob...

Zamuner??? ;)

As impressive as tc rosters are on paper, the margin between winning and losing is razor thin. 2014 Latvia kept the score tied for 50 minutes, and in the semis they squeaked by the us 1-0. They play mistake free hockey. Sure they could take tie domi or pk subban but one mistake could very likely cost the tournament.

If ur starved for goals even against a huge underdog...you're playing with fire. So not having taken dynamic skaters , like PK or Hall, who create offensively, can wind up costing you too...What's your point?

Subban and hall don't provide anything offensively that can't be made up by Crosby, Tavares, Doughty, Weber. Etc., and those guys do it with less risk.

The jaybos of the team understand their only job is to not get scored on.

The major reason is they saw 3 RHD better than him, and almost no RHD ever play on their off-side, which sort of capped how many they could take. He and Letang were competing with Weber, Doughty and Pietrangelo for a spot, not Vlasic, Bouwmeester or Muzzin.

Except that all those guys were on our 2014 Sochi Team - albeit Tavares was felled by an injury -- a team again starved for goals...

In stark contrast, our 2015 WC team , which featured Hall on a line with Crosby, was scoring upwards of 7 goals / gm and putting most of their opponents away early...sometimes it doesn't hurt to add new blood...steada that tired old same old, same old

Classic response when someone doesn't agree with someone else's opinion

Politics! Old boys club! This is why they never win!

Wait.. maybe they do know something I don't

Classic response when someone doesn't agree with someone else's opinion

Maybe the fallible human beings who do this for a living know things and stuff that nobody else does!!

Is "old boys club" a political cover phrase for racism or something? Becuase if PK was left off Team USA I think you would have much harsher and direct words being used against Americans. Like players would be taking knees during the anthems and stuff. But it's just sort of glossed over when it comes to Team Canada and Montreal brass' distain for PK. Weird.

Pretty hard to argue with the team after their first game also

Doughty
Burns
Weber

Isn't bad and picking subban would be based on player preference

The obvious difference here is, if PK was american, there's no way he wouldve been off the team, because he'd unarguably be a top-3 Rhd. Something you can't say for Canada.

He's not even unaeguably the best canadian d-man left off the team, so...

Subban is a defensive liability in his own end. That’s the only reason he isn’t on the Team! :shakehead

But Guaranty if there were 2 Canada teams, he’d be on Team B!

...if anything, he's an "offensive" liability in his own end.
As in, he's great to gain possession/disrupt plays.

It's with the puck that, sometimes...

Maybe do a poll because I don't think there is much of a question that based on ability he should be on team Canada (and this coming from someone that isn't a fan of PK at all). Even maybe over Weber, who has looked very, very slow out there.

Where did he say he wouldn't take Subban over Bouwmeester? And even if he would, he's allowed to have an opinion. I'd take Subban over Weber.

Why are you so upset? JaegerDice posted one of the more mundane comments in this thread.
