The obvious difference here is, if PK was american, there's no way he wouldve been off the team, because he'd unarguably be a top-3 Rhd. Something you can't say for Canada.

He's not even unaeguably the best canadian d-man left off the team, so...

you cant make very good argument that he isn't a top 3 rhd on the team...he sure as hell is better than weber and piets

If Bergevin won nothing, then Poile won even more nothing...
lol they're night and day in terms of management.

Which hockey world? The Marc Bergevin hockey world? Or the David Poile hockey world? Because the Daivd Poile hockey world traded their Captain and all his Team Canada credentials for Subban.

Bergevin is a rookie GM who has won nothing. David Poile is the most experienced GM in the NHL. 2nd in most wins as a GM in NHL history. I'll take Poile's credentials over Bergevin's cabinet of fancy suits.
Yep. Everytime someone appeals to authority this fact is just completely glossed over.

And Doughty.

But you can't make the argument that he isn't UNARGUABLY a Top-3 RHD on that team, and he wasn't any better than Weber last season.

I wouldn't even call him the best RHD left off the team.

lol they're night and day in terms of management.

They're subjectively night and day in terms of management, but Poile objectively didn't win the NHL more than Bergevin didn't win... Which is what I was replying to.

why wasn't he as good as weber last season...please tell me

No they're really not. The Predators have always been well-managed, not to mention the best team in the NHL at producing quality defensemen.

why wasn't he as good as weber last season...please tell me

Around the same amount of points but webers shot and 20 goals gave him the better season last year.

But he was responding to a person saying subban is def better than weber and last season he wasn't definitely better than weber.

Given the 10th vs 14th in Norris voting, and 10th vs 18th in post season all-star voting (both in favour of Weber), I think the impetus to provide reasoning is on those who think Subban was as good as Weber last year, not the other way around.

Maybe better but not what canada wanted. I would take letang before subban anyways

I'm not arguing that, I understan how tc picks the team.
Letang is a great defender, was impressed with him in the stretch run heading into the playoffs but his play seemed to get worse throughout the playoffs, not that he was ever bad or anything. I think I would prefer subban but that's just me, he will do well with a team that appreciates him, a team that lets him play his game.

If I had to pick who of Weber, Subban and Pietrangelo was the best last season... Well, I'd pick Weber.

The gap isn't signficant mind you. At least between Weber and Subban.

Add in Letang and it's completely lopsided in Letang's favor.

so your argument basically boils down to others thought he was better so he is better...great logic
you should try thinking for yourself instead of differing to others opinions

..And your argument basically boils down to you think Subban was better, so he's better. EVEN MORE LOGICAL.

Hero charts are great at measuring what they're measuring.
They also aren't measuring everything.

Besides, the crux of the argument is that Subban isn't UNARGUABLY better than everyone who's on that team. And I'd like to point out that, well, we're actually ARGUING this fact. And those calling Subban unarguably better than Weber at this point... are probably revealing more about themselves than about the whole issue.

I think Subban himself is actually slightly better than Weber (he just had a worst season last year).

lol they're night and day in terms of management.

Well, Montreal finished ahead of Nashville in the overall standings every season except last since Bergevin took over the team. Montreal's accumulated 28 more points in the standings during that stretch despite a disaster year last year, and also won 3 playoff series to Nashville's 1. Not to mention Bergevin's Stanley Cup ring with the Hawks. Nothing against Poile, but night and day? Really?

This is a silly thread. Weber is there for his shot and because he's a stay at home defender.

Idk why this thread is a thing and not a letang Giordano or Brodie thread. Is it just because since he was traded from Montreal everyone weirdly loves subban?

Team Canada does just fine without Subban stepping on the ice. We should all trust their judgement. There is no secret handshakes or dislike. Subban is high risk, high reward. That ISN'T Team Canada. The Muzzin selection was odd. Normally Keith would be there which would push him out. Subban, Letang are both good dmen, but obviously weren't what management wanted. I'm always curious as to why Giordano never gets a serious consideration...

BINGO.

What I don't understand is Letang not being there instead of Pietrangelo and Subban not being there instead of Muzzin. Letang can move to LD better than Subban (I think...), so put Subban on RD and give him some +-15 minutes if somebody goes down.

That would've been optimal.

Subban should've been on that team, but he isn't the best player who isn't on that team.
