I hope they keep leaving Subban off because honestly the level of outrage some fans display is so disproportionate to the slight it is just hilarious

What's hilarious is your inability to understand what's being discussed. WHy Subban was left off is what we are talking about. The fact you want to post that you enjoy the pain of others, imagined or otherwise, is a bit odd.

Here is the thing. We pay to see Subban and Letang not Bouwmeester. These guys have lost the plot. This is hockey, entertainment, not war. I want to see the best players not a silly boys club political game.

Babcock is not the show. I really don't care what bs excuses they want to make to for choosing politics and backroom favours over the fans. Put the best players on the team. These guys are stuck in the 1950's.

edit: that quote from Price sounds like years of indoctrination from second rate coaches like Therrien.

Here is the thing. Coaches coach and GM's build teams. Not the fans. Ultimately we should be happy with a winning roster.

If being stuck in the 50's means winning games, please stay there.

I like the best to be the best, including management. We sure pay enough to watch this ****.

Umm, no my goal is seeing the best players win. We give these guys a break because even with Bouwmeester TC is great. Looks what happens when you don't have the depth of Canada(pssst, Team USA) and choose lesser talent than you have available.

There is no dichotomy here. Choosing the best players and winning aren't mutually exclusive choices.

They absolutely are. Chemistry plays a huge part in teams success.

This is the best of the best. I think what you want to see is a peoples choice game, for that we have the ASG. Subban will be there with his wig I'm sure.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm, how much have you actually paid to watch this?

Ummmmmm, I'm quite enjoying this team without Subban. The team is incredible and doesn't need the larger than life Subban to win.

Canada does have a system and it allows forwards a great deal of creativity and puck pressure because the back-end is more conservative and solid.

A team with less offensive spark up front might need more pop from the back-end, and guys like Subban and Letang could play a vital role on that kind of team.

As it stands, the offensive depth up front is mind-blowing so the team brass opted for safety in the back.

A forward making a mistake is pretty different from the lowest D making a mistake.

This. And when the forwards make mistakes, team Canada wants defensemen who are likely to clean up, rather than compound, the mistakes. It was deemed that Subban is not that type of defenseman. Team Canada has plenty off offensive firepower from its forwards and doesn't like the risk:reward trade-off Subban (and probably Letang) represent(s). This isn't hard to understand.

You're the one who doesn't seem to get it, team Canada when they look at the risk and reward of Subban doesn't think the reward outweighs the risk. You want them to have the best players, they want to have the best team. You can watch the game or not watch the game that is your level of input to their decision.

shut the board down. We're all not a part of Team Canada.

I think some ppl agree with you but, obviously, not everyone does. I think it's more entertaining to watch a team work well together than have a bunch of all stars. My daughter thinks it's more entertaining to watch her team crush other teams, regardless of how they do it (low scoring defensive games, physical games, high offense games by both teams, doesn't matter). Some ppl love to watch teams like Dallas where there's high offense at both ends bc their offense is great but their D and goaltending are bad. Others like a great goalie battle or a defensive battle. Etc., etc., etc.

You don't seem to understand that not everyone is entertained by the same things and that many ppl will think that the way that Canada has constructed this team is more entertaining than the way you want to construct it.

I think you have this backwards. I am suggesting they don't do their jobs optimally and that our entertainment should be high on the list of goals. I'm quite sure winning is entertaining. I know better than to attempt a nuanced discussion online. my bad.

I don't know what's so hard to understand. Coaches don't like him because he's too risky but more importantly because he's not good in the locker room because his peers think he's obnoxious as hell. Also, the right handed thing.

Take away the top line and the offense isn't so mind blowing. Stamkos looks like something of a liability on the pt on the pp to me...He almost scored last night/ was robbed...Still he doesn't look so great as he did prior to that brutal leg injury...that once deadly one timer of his, again but for one occasion last night, seems mostly to misfire...Toews had a decent game, but had been largely invisible prior to this. Couture doesn't scare anyone offensively. Ditto ROR who got sprung on a breakaway, but couldn't locate the puck. Yes, he scored last game, but if he's gonna play wing, we had better options available than a 37 year old Thornton. Hell even if Thornton plays center we still had better options available. Getzlaf has looked good every game. Tavares had a good game. Duchene had good chemistry with Seguin but he's gone. Jay-Bo got outa position once resulting in a TC penalty, still he's been a good addition overall. But why were the coaches preaching this lefty righty thingy, as if it were gospel, if they're gonna play the right shooting Petro on the left side? As for Muzzin? Clearly, we left better guys at home than him...

Sure they ran up the score on a Czech team which basically quit...But Canada lost its first exhibition game, and only managed one goal vs Russia in over fifty minutes of play. And some people seem to forget how starved TC was for goals in Sochi.

With the talent at our disposal, with that embarassment of riches, methinks there's still room for improvement, insofar as our A Team selection goes...

Especially factoring in the guys we're missing/lost due to injuries...Should TC find itself trailing in the 3rd period again, many will be missing guys like PK and Hall BIG-TIME and rightly so imo

Subban needs to be insulated in a defensive minded system, you don't want him on the ice if the game is on the line.

They're not mutually exclusive, but they're also not necessarily equivalent choices.

Choosing the best players in the NHL doesn't mean you put together the best team to win the World Cup.

I'm saying that your way of doing it would be (1) less entertaining (to me and at least some other ppl) and (2) less likely to result in winning.

Riskier players like Subban increase variance. When your team is likely to have the highest mean/median score, it's better to decrease variance, not increase it. Over the course of an 82 game season, it would generally be better to increase it provided that it also raises the mean/median but that's not true over a short tournament.

I don't understand why you attack ppl who disagree with you (e.g., "I know better than to attempt a nuanced discussion" which is solely a dig at posters who disagree with you without providing anything substantive).

subban is amazing, case closed

that said, hockey canada is there to win, nothing else matters, and their are players who will do anything they're asked to put the team first that perhaps some dont think subban right now would

that and HC expects guys to give to them before hockey canada reciprocates

given just how much they have dominated int play(when its best on best) as of late, who can argue with the formula

As a Habs fan, I've seen him a lot. I loved him on our team because we had such an awful offence. But he truth about him not making the team is Team Canada doesn't need a defenceman skating the puck from end to end when you have so many great players on the team, which is Subban's specialty. Had another defenceman got hurt, I have little doubt Letang would have been the replacement because he's more of a passer where as Subban just likes to do it himself which isn't a bad thing all the time, but just doesn't fit Team Canada.

Did you get sick to your stomach when it finally settled in that a slow 37 center playing out of position scored a goal in international play?

I'm not as big a fan of Subban as others around here but yeah I'd have picked him for the team ahead of Muzzin.

Just said we had better options than him...Btw if he's so crucial to TC victory, which isn't in the bag yet by any means ...Why wasn't Big Joe on our Sochi Team?
