Kane was getting caved for a year and a half before this, and is coming back from 4 abdominal surgeries and a knee procedure. I have bad news for those who think he’ll be anything close to 2022 playoff Kane. It’s another mid-30s guy rehabbing his career after major injuries on this team.
Oh I'm pretty sure Kane is done as an effective top 6 player so this will make it even worse when he comes back looking like Perry of last years' playoffs and killed any opportunity for the team to improve at the deadline. Oh and another year left of an immovable contract without attaching an asset. Another one of those Kenny Holland specials, who btw looks like Sam Pollock compared to these buffoons who still, a week before the deadline, have no idea apparently if they have any cap space to work with.

Bowman was on Servalli’s show this week and said that technically this was ‘September’ for Klingberg , so really they won’t even try to evaluate his play until he gets up and running in about six weeks. I wish I was joking, go back and listen to his podcast. It’s the same show where he said he’s confident with Skinner and Pickard.
He was on his show last week before this losing streak began

Gee I wonder who the passengers were that Knobby was referring too…..

Am I the only one who hasn't minded Klingberg?

Yes, he's had some rocky moments, but no worse than others around him on the blueline; and I feel like he's the only defenceman that's actually created any offence for the Oil since the break.
He's been fine. He was also good this game for the most part. Had some mistakes but generated offense

Klingberg had 2 points tonight in 15 minutes of ice time.
He’s rocking a 40% expected goals for. Average is 50%, contenders are at 55%+. His points right despite being caved now are literally the exact same issue as the Janmark-Henrique-Brown line last finals. Stop getting fooled by on-ice shooting percentages over small sample sizes.

Any points he puts up he gives them up on the other end. We do not have the defensive system to shelter him, especially considering we have Skinner as a goalie.
Thats a bit of an overstatement and if you apply that metric to the rest the players then half the team should be waived.

The thing to consider with Klingberg is that before he got here a few weeks ago he hadnt played in almost a year.
It would be extremly shortsighted to get rid of him now.

So what were your expectations after missing a year of NHL hockey?

Huh? The NHL is not a developmental league, I don’t care if he’s missed a year of hockey. Why does he deserve a top 4 spot on a playoff team because he got injured?

I might be shortsighted but with 3 games left before the deadline, it's pretty insane to put this much trust in a guy that hasn't played in a year. He is putting up points and being terrible defensively, something he's done throughout his career.

What? They arent developing this player...lol

This team had a problem on defence and had very little cap space to work with. They got a potential top 4 dman (for nothing) that via surgery was able to increase his mobility to a level he hadnt had before in his career.
He just needed some games to get his feet under him. To get up to NHL speed. That doesnt happen overnight.
Not unlike Brown last year...was that a development situation too?

Giving him an opportunity to find his NHL game was something that had all kinds of upside and cost them nothing.

I wasn’t opposed to them trying him out but guess what, he’s not a top 4 Dman. And we don’t have 6 weeks to wait for him to maybe magically discover a level he hasn’t played at since 2018. Bottom line , the deadline is approaching and he’s not a top 4 Dman. Heck, he hasn’t even been better than Stecher who himself isn’t a top 4 guy. Nice experiment, cut him loose, best of luck and go get a real top 4 Dman.
