If you had to make a decision on Kyle Dubas right now, would you extend him or let him walk?

Kane = NMC.
NMC = Player can choose his destination

Unless Kane said he wanted to come here and Dubas passed on him, it’s pretty silly to blame him for Kane becoming a Ranger.
Not that it matters now but I recall hearing Kane exclusively to the Rangers only some time after the Leafs had already acquired O'Reilly. He took a dump in the game against the Leafs before that deal. To me he looked like he was done at that point and Dubas would have needed to be psychic to think otherwise.

Reportedly, there was some level of mutual interest with the Maple Leafs as well, but Kyle Dubas made his big splash at forward for Ryan O’Reilly and Noel Acciari Friday.

“I don't think there's really — at least that I know of — much discussion of that being an option,” Kane said. “I know there’s a lot of different reports out there, and not all of them are true. So, gotta be careful what you listen to.”

I don't believe Dubas was considering both Kane and O'Reilly and I suspect the rumored ask last week was a lot higher than the final sale price. Now if Kane had his hat trick before the O'Reilly deal and Kyle thought a 2nd and a 4th would do it they might well have both. Or he may have been holding his assets for another potential deal that never happened, we don't know. I love to second guess the GM but we don't know the inside info.

You're all fake af if you ever expected Sandin and a 1st to exist as output and not a single Jeannot or higher coming back as input.

I'm at a loss for words how little Dubas has to do to get his dick sucked here
He hasn't made any glaring errors. We have promising young players and no significantly overpaid players. Dubas is in the "could be worse" area. I'd change the coach for him, before I cut him loose.

Plot twist. He resigned weeks ago but they will not announce it until after the playoffs to keep from distractions.
Absolutely he's been resigned. No team would let their GM go nuts at the deadline only to be looking for a new GM 3 months later

For those of you complaining about how tight they are to the cap and how that has handcuffed Dubas. Currently $10.2M of the cap is allotted to Murray, Kerfoot and Holl. I think there are other GMs in the league that could get a back-up goalie, bottom 6 winger and bottom pairing Dman for less cap hit.

Name a team without a bad contract.

I'll wait.

Two of those are pending UFA's, the other we were paid to take. That said, Murray hasn't been bad so far. His stats are decent, he's just been injured.

We weren't paid to take him, that would imply he was an add on to a large deal.
Dubas went and got Murray. It was his goalie move, thank god after that move that Washington didn't qualify Samsanov and luckily he signed a 1 year bet on himself contract.

He keeps getting better and evolving as a GM. I hate losing but I woulD extend him all day long. He is doing his part.

It's your hypothesis that Toronto is the only team in the league doing it. Shouldn't the burden of proof for that hypothesis lie with you?

I was on the fence, and had the mentality of waiting to see how the playoffs go.

After watching the changes made at (or near) the deadline, I am firmly on the re-sign side.

The only caveat would be if we lose in the first round (only) because of goaltending, and even then, at this point, the blame has to fall on this miserable failure of a core.

Lol and who is responsible for the core ?

Kyle will get hired withing 10 seconds of Leafs contract expiring.

He will go somewhere else and win a championship. Alex Anthopolous vibes right now.
who cares if he can't get it done here ? Keep him because he may win somewhere else?

This is sad ... he's trying and learning and one day I hope we win

we have no significantly overpaid players?

I guess the koolaid is extra tasty.

well sure, but a greeter at the local walmart isn't the most prestigious position.

even if it IS a walmart in the Sault.

You keep him bc he's a smart talented GM. Most GMs in the pool out there are idiots.

Whose overpaid? Everyone knows how I feel about Marner so no need for me to say it. But who else?
