The GM has built a top tier team that has competed for the cup every year through some pretty massive obstacles. Just because a team hasn't won the cup by the time a player is 25, that doesn't mean the player has been wasted, and it doesn't mean that it's the current GM's fault. Most players don't win by the time they are 25. Many don't even make the playoffs, which some people somehow take as a positive. We've got many more prime years with Matthews.

Let's be real here - nothing would be considered "actual success" other than the cup. It was first round this, first round that, and then we make the 2nd round, and it's the same argument. If they had gotten to the 3rd round, it would be the same argument. If they had lost in the SCF, it would be the same argument.
Heck, even if we had won the cup, I'm sure there would have been plenty of "only one?". There are some people that feel entitled to a cup, and even a dynasty.

Dufus didn't build anything, he got handed what should have been a dynasty, created a giant mess around the core structure. Spends every year making ticky tack moves to try and rectify his giant mistake and fans marvel at his creativity as he smears around the mess he made in his pants at the outset.
