If you had to make a decision on Kyle Dubas right now, would you extend him or let him walk?

Precisely my point explained and clarified to perfection.

Can you imagine if Seattle actually won a playoff round made up of other teams castoffs, before Dubas was able to win one with Toronto and then people would still want him extended based on regular season results despite Leafs being the ONLY team to never have won a playoff round in a Salary Cap era, should that occur?
Vegas made it to the SC final their first year and the leafs haven't been since 1967. If that isn't embarrassing I don't know what is.

How have they played better? What makes them so great?

They haven't won a damn thing still.

How can you sit there and say these guys are better when they have accomplished the exact same thing as the group of losers that were breaking regular season records and going out in the first round under Babcock?
Muzzin, Brodie, Giordano, and McCabe are better as a group than Gardiner, Hainsey, Barrie, and Ceci and it's not particularly close either.

You ask me how I can say that but whatever I tell you, you're just going to come back with "they haven't won a damn thing" so I'll just copy paste what I said before:

Your argument seems to be that they haven't won anything. By that logic they're all cruddy, Matthews, Marner, Nylander, every player on the team, Keefe, Dubas, Shanahan, the guys that hired Shanahan, all of them. If that's what you think then any discussion with you is pointless.

Cheers!

You're right.

The whole lot of them are losers. How can I say that? Because they haven't won anything.

You misread my original post anyway I just didn't bother you correct you. My reference to cruddy defensemen was all the bottom of the roster guys like Benn and Schenn and Mete and .... You get the point. I just couldn't be bothered to correct you because I liked the approach you took instead.

I would argue that you are very much correct in your assessment of me andy own assessment of the team.

Until they win something the whole lot of them are losers.

That includes Matthews, Marner, Rielly, and everyone else on the team that hasn't won anything.

I'd really like to see the team prove me wrong, but that hasn't happened yet.

I'm starting to get hungry waiting to eat my words for all these years.

Not true at all.

You started with this:
He brought in a bunch of cruddy defensemen, so many in fact, they can't even roster them all.

I responded with:
He brought in Muzzin, Brodie, Giordano and now McCabe. If that's your idea of cruddy then ... well, in case you're wondering at what point I stopped reading, that was it.

The you came back with
So what have Muzzin, Brodie, Giordano, and McCabe done that Gardiner, Hainsey, Barrie, and Ceci hadn't already accomplished?

I'm tempted to ask you why you're lying but instead, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you just forgotten what you posted earlier.

Enjoy the game tonight, should be a good one. :)

I was referring to all the guys he just brought in a the trade deadline.

I think it is obvious they have more defensemen than they can roster.

And they sure as heck ain't all superstars.

So yeah.... They have a lot of cruddy defensemen on the team.

Sheesh.

This is why I didn't correct you in the first place. Because I rather liked the direction of the discussion you led us into. I didn't want to get hung up on something like that.

I did enjoy the game, thank you.

I trust you did as well.

Keep shifting the goalposts there buddy. Nice try.

I'm not shifting the goal posts.

Benn, Schenn, Holl, even Giordano and Brodie who are on the wrong side of thirty and in decline. Muzzin hasn't played all year and his career is over. The coach doesn't appear to trust Liljegren.

There are no awesome defensemen on the team. None. You Rielly, who is a top pair defenseman, but not even close to a true number one, and then a bunch of chumps, most of whom are playing above their pay grade. But Norris caliber defensemen, someone who can win a series all on his own? None.

There is no one like that on the team.

Morgan Rielly is the best defenseman on the team and half the fan base wants to trade him because they think he earns too much for what he brings to the table.

So tell me again how great this teams defensemen are?

Yes you are. Go read post #639 again, that's a pretty good summary and those names weren't part of the discussion.

I think if the Leafs crashed out of the 1st round and a new GM comes in, this new GM will overpay for a goalie. Like massively overpay for one. And that goalie is not really top notch to begin with

Words 'Rielly' and 'best' should never be in the same sentence. He remindes me of a drunk moose. After eating fermented apples. Running around guided by destiny.

This nonsense has gotten out of hand to the point where Rielly is the most underrated player on the team. He was one of our best players in the last playoffs and I expect he'll be excellent once again this spring.

We should just permaban you. I kind of relish the idea of ban bets on the Doomer Users here just as the team gets over the hump. Unfortunately one of them is an HFBoards mod so it won't happen but one can dream.

The quality of discussion here would certainly go up if I didn't have to explain how a team that gets a free player from 30 teams isn't a bad team.

Also pretty funny to see a team that's pacing 11 points less than us be represented as equal.

Extend. His moves have been decent and he is a master of circumventing and maximizing the salary cap. Who the hell do you replace him with? Hextall?

Hopefully someone that knows how to evaluate goalies and realizes that you can’t dump 50% of your cap on 4 similar forwards

If the new GM wants to overpay for someone like Saros feel free… lol

Now that the team choked, do opinions change?

I don't think it's fair to use hindsight as a way to measure people.

Is there even a good GM in the NHL available?

I would keep him and deserves an extension. 2 main questions I would ask though.
Will you change the core?
Will you let Keefe go?
If he says yes to both, keep him.

I say it's time for some new blood. Kyle did some good things, but the result speaks for itself.
