Probably waiting until Christmas to pick Shield up. Way too busy with work right now, plus I would like to play through the past games as well.

I played up through Black as a kid, never got around to the rest although I got a few of them, just didn't beat them.

Been replaying the entire series. Started with Alpha Sapphire which I absolutely loved. Hoenn is what I initially started with and it was perfect for me, really. The Delta Episode was fantastic too. Haven't done much else of the post-game as it doesn't seem very story-based or linear, which is largely what I'm after.

Just finished SS as well. I forgot how long that game is, took me about 45 hours to get all 16 badges and catch Ho-oh and Mewtwo.

Working on Platinum now. Next up is White, then Black 2, then Y, Moon, and Ultra Sun.

Are White and Moon worth playing if I'm also going to play Black 2 and Ultra Sun? Are the differences between these same generation games enough to warrant playing both?

---

Any mystery dungeon players here as well? I want to replay all of those as well.

It can happen with any pokemon that’s too high of a level, but it’s far more common with Pokemon who aren’t friendly with the trainer (e.g. Pokemon received from trades).

It shouldn’t really be much of an issue unless someone is planning to train to levels 30+ before the first gym (which sounds painfully annoying without any hiccups).

Gotcha thanks ya'll. I honestly didnt mean to get that high early on but I am somewhat of a completionist so I spent a longgg time in the fields trying to catch everything.

No. A lot of people are putting up junk because they are early in the game and it is all they have. I've done probably 40 of them and have been somewhat fortunate. I've recieved a level 1 Scorbunny and also a level 1 Farfetch'd and this is especially great since I bought shield..

Are you connected to the internet? When I first tried a surprise trade nothing happened. I realized I had to click the + on my switch to connect to the internet (once in the trade menu). Since then I've never had one take more than 20-30 seconds.

It is a good game and this is coming from someone whose last few pokemon titles include: Lets Go: Pikachu, SoulSilver, Emerald and Crystal

I wish they would tone down the cheese factor a little bit. That is really my biggest complaint about this game and the biggest miss. When I went to gamestop on Friday to pick up my copy, it was 4:30 pm and there was still a line out the door for people picking up pokemon. There was one kid that was somewhere between 8-10. All others in that line had ages ranging from 16 - 40+, with most in their 20's and 30's. I find some of the stuff in the game to be so childish it is cringe worthy and while I try to remind myself what game I am playing, I do feel like there is an opportunity for Nintendo/GameFreak to maybe bring an iota more of maturity to the next title.

Overall, as of right now I'd probably give it an 8/10.

Does anyone know where I could find surf? There was a Lapras in the wild area yesterday that I couldn't get to.

Yeah I figured that out way too late. And didn't even really figure it out, someone on Discord told me. I love that it takes place in the background.

Anyway, the real reason I got this game is I sold my 3ds to help pay for my Switch so I don't really have access to the DS through 3ds titles to play online in any meaningful way. I think whatever other flaws this game has, at least it can be there to scratch that itch.

Though I'd like to see some excluded pokemon patched in with future updates.

What is the difference between a regular pokemon and a gigantamax pokemon? Do they have like boosted stats or something?

I've caught a few from raids but I've never used then FWIW.
The only difference from dynamax and Gmax is that gmax has a special g move and they change form.

Regular drednaw stands on all 4 feet but gigantamax stands on 2 and looks cooler.

Have literally never played a Pokemon game(other than Pokemon Go for like a week) but loved the cards as a young kid. Decided to download this just for the hell of it and it's pretty damn fun. I've only seen a couple of Pokemon that I recognize from when I was a kid(I guess the first generation). Just reached the first Gym, though, so I'm not too far. Will definitely keep going with this one.

definitely liking it so far. way more things I am impressed with than things that I don't like

that said its a little frustrating just to think how good pokemon console games could be. the generic character animations, lack of any voice actors, main character that doesn't have any personality, formulaic story line with rivals/evil enemy team, etc.

just think about how good a real pokemon open world game could be. pokemon just seems to fall into the same pattern over and over.

hopefully for the next one they can spice it up a bit

I never played the "2" versions, but IIRC they are very similar. I feel like playing both would get you a little Pokemon'd out

Yea that’s what I’m worried about. I have no recollection of playing Pokemon Black (despite logging 100+ hours on it, and transferring my whole archive to that game...) and I never played any Alolan games though, so it might give me some better familiarity with those regions. SMUSUM especially seems radically different.

If anyone wants moonball Dreepy, I've been breeding them. I haven't fixed the nature yet, but they have 4 perfect IVs. I'll be available tomorrow to trade them. My friend code is 5811-8635-1022.

First Pokemon game I've ever played. Picked it up because my wife likes the games, but I'll play it too.

Any tips for the ultimate noob?

Corviknight is easily my favorite flying pokemon yet.

I'd love to have one. Still havent even found a ditto, let alone catch one, so I havent been able to breed at all.

I've never focused on this stuff. How do you know if a pokemon has perfect IVs? Hell, what are IVs? And yes, I will happily take one.

Funny enough, this is exactly my situation as well. I'll probably get one of Sword/Shield around Christmas. Just don't have the time right now to really enjoy it, plus any patches that might be released I can just apply at the time and not miss a beat. I am itching to get onto the online ladder though and mess around with the new pokemon. Gonna have to settle for some Showdown in the meantime.

I'm also replaying through most of the series in my spare time. Just doing a nuzlocke on Heart Gold (at the E4 currently), then I'll be going over to Platinum, then Unova, etc. I'm really enjoying the older games; HG, Platinum, and arguably B2W2 were the peak of the series, in my opinion.

White absolutely is. Generation 5 is basically one giant story, and BW are part 1, while B2W2 are part 2 that takes place two years after those events. You can probably skip Moon if you're playing Ultra Sun; SM and USUM are more or less just the same story, but the latter are more fleshed out and prettier to look at (not to mention more challenging).

It absolutely does. Thank you. But, I still have one question. If I am breeding, how do I know if the bred pokemon has perfect IVs? If all stats start at 15?

I'm pretty sure it varies from game to game. SwSh should have an IV checker, but I'm not sure what perfect is (I'm sure someone in here could tell you).

Here's an in-depth run-down from Platinum: IVs, Natures and Breeding guide - How to get the best from your eggs. - Pokemon Platinum Version Message Board for DS - GameFAQs

I think it's a lot simpler now but it used to be a very complex process that wasn't precise at all. I tried it for a bit and hated it so I just quit caring

I don't know why it would have been so hard to make it like Pokemon Lets Go where it told you right in the screen what the IV's were. :dunno:

This is available post game. You have to get 6 wins in a row at the battle tower and then you unlock the ability to judge Pokemon in the box screen. It's not exactly the same, but you'll get the gist.

I should be available tonight to send both you and Vegeta a Dreepy. I still don't know what the best nature for Dreepy would be. It seems like it could run physical, special, and mixed sets quite well. I would tend to lean towards a more physical set, but it doesn't really have a good physical ghost move. This is where it is nice that they've added those mints so we can change natures.
