Pokemon Thread #25 - A new Tera

Okay, great. I'll send you a quick PM when I'm available to sort it out. If you're playing shield, do you have a Corsola you could send back my way? Or Larvitar? If not, no worries.

I do not. Although, I could try to snag you a Corsola. Larvitar would promptly kick my ass as my highest pokemon is only level 36 and they spawn at level 50.

Anyone have any inf on how the Fossils work this time around ? I hear things are different as there are 2 in each game.

It is a mix and match situation. You need two different pieces to revive one fossil with the woman on I think route 6. I got my pieces from the digging guys in the Wild Area.

No worries then, you can send whatever works for you. These are basically just castaway Dreepy.
Which one of you guys is Seth?
I believe the name attached to my console is Haliax, my in game name is Matt. I think I added you yesterday.

So is there a different Pokemon for each combination? Are there only 2 fossil Pokemon in this gen?

There are 4, with two different pieces in each game.
  • Fossilised Bird (Sword)
  • Fossilised Dino (Sword)
  • Fossilised Drake (Shield)
  • Fossilised Fish (Shield)
And the combinations make:
  • Fossilised Bird + Dino: Arctozolt
  • Fossilised Bird + Fish: Arctovish
  • Fossilised Drake + Dino: Dracozolt
  • Fossilised Drake + Fish: Dracovish
So you need to trade over pieces with someone else in order to get different combinations.

I'm very quickly being convinced to buy a shield copy to go with my sword. This is a cool addition to the fossil system, thanks for the insight!

You got it. I named my competitive team in Gen 6 after the Chandrian. Tyranitar was Cinder, Talonflame was Cyphus, Venusaur was Usnea, Excadrill was Stercus, Clefable was Alenta, and Rotom W was Dalcenti. And then my name was Haliax.

So apparently there are two different sparkles for shinies in these games? Mine has these square ones instead of the normal star ones, I just thought the square sparkles were normal this generation.

Apparently my game is being delivered today. It's supposed to be on the truck out for delivery so I am literally sitting staying in places I can check out the window for it to arrive so I don't miss the guy (and be forced to go across town tomorrow afternoon to pick it up from a Purolator depot.)

So I'll probably start playing in the next couple days.

In terms of tradeability/balance is there a version that is underrepresented in our group? I got the dual pack so it doesn't matter which one I choose and I honestly can't decide on my own which versions exclusives appeal to me more.

I personally kind of regret getting Sword. I feel like the Shield exclusives are much better.

I heard about this. I've read varying reports that say the squares are rarer, but other places say the stars are rarer. Still unsure which is true.

EDIT: this is about as legit as it gets, this guy is a data miner

If anyone wants moonball Dreepy, I've been breeding them. I haven't fixed the nature yet, but they have 4 perfect IVs. I'll be available tomorrow to trade them. My friend code is 5811-8635-1022.

How did you go about getting the 4 perfect IVs for your Dreepy? I'm just getting into breeding for the first time in a Pokemon game and I've watched some YouTube videos. Did you find a really good Dreepy to breed, or a Ditto? I've been farming both at the Lake of Outrage near Hammerlocke, but have only gotten a Great Ditto and Good Dreepys/Drakloaks.

Both. I got both a 4IV Ditto and a 4IV Dreepy (which I used a Moonball to catch) in max raids. I've been trying to breed them so that I'll have a Dreepy that has a perfect IV spread for both a physical and one for a special set.

My square one is 1 in 65536? That seems insane. I don't get what he means by the second part though.

Joined the discord server as the entirely expected name of Nemesis_HF, which I then changed to The_Nemesis when I realized that I wasn't limited to more unique name options.

Ah I see, thanks. Any idea where abouts on the map is the best spot to do max raids and have the best chance of running into a Ditto/Dreepy? And do you think max raids have better probability than farming the Lake of Outrage (spawns Ditto, Dreepy, and Drakloaks)?

I don't know where Dreepy is since that was a happy accident, but here is an image showing where you can find the Ditto and the Gigantimax raids:

You can see the Ditto raid spot is to the right of the path that goes down to the daycare center, as you head away from the daycare. It is kind of tucked into a corner.

The raids have a much better chance of giving you better IVs. I think how it works is that if it is a 3 star raid, it is guaranteed at least 2 Perfect IVs, 4 star guarantees 3, 5 star guarantees 4. There is a technique to resetting the Ditto raid spot until you get the Ditto. Ditto is the only one that shows up in the darker red beam. So you first save the game. Then you put the wishing star piece or whatever in the den, and when it asks you if you want to save, say yes but right away hit the home button so that you go to the Switch home screen. As it backs out of the game, you'll see whether it is a special beam or not. If it isn't a special beam, close the game and re-enter and if you did it properly you'll be able to try again. If it is a special beam, just go back into the game and do the raid. I've gotten 3 4IV Ditto doing this so far, and I haven't really spent that much time on it.
