Pokemon Thread #25 - A new Tera

I'm in the post game now, and this is a fun game. I could waste a lot of time in the wild area, I'm not sure why some reviews were saying that it is empty and boring. It is kind of frustrating that I can't get people to join a 5 star gigantamax raid because the stamp system is so awkward. I really want this gigantamax Drednaw.

I just beat the pokemon league and now breeding to make competitive teams and fill the Pokédex. All that dynamaxing stuff I saw in the trailers confused me and I thought all this extra fluff wasn’t going to destroy the game but I’ve been proven wrong. I love this game.

I forgot I pre-ordered. I'm debating selling for more than I paid (e3 deal) or just playing.

They cut 4 of 6 of my usual team. So that's very sad to me. It would have been fine if I had to play the story without them and get them later on, but there's not even that option. That pains me so much.

But I also am stuck between not wanting to charge my 3ds (lol), not wanting to play Let's Go anymore, and waiting for the full TemTem release.

If it’s a physical copy, I’d just play it and see what you think. It’s actually a pretty good game.

One thing that I really like about this game is that it gives you the opportunity to build a complete team before you even get to the first gym.

Wow, I already got my first shiny and I'm not even at the first gym. Not sure if I'm really lucky, or if the rate has been increased a lot.

Dunno but I had two shinies before the first gym.
Crazy you guys have already beaten the game, isn't it like a 40 hour campaign? I wish I had that much free time.

Don't really understand all the negative reviews for this game, at least so far, I'm only three gyms in.

Side note: I've been using the surprise trade to fill out my dex as I go along and I got a Grookey somehow in one, only problem is the trainer previously nicknamed it "BluntBasher" and I can't figure out how to change it back to it's original name. Most sites just say to visit the guy in the Pokemon Center but he won't change a nickname that was given by a previous trainer. Any help?

Does the Pokemon you put up for trade impact what you get back through surprise trade? I've only gotten junk but I've really only put up junk so far. Not sure how it works.

It is completely random, just people put almost exclusively garbage out. It'll get a little better as people get further in the game.

I think you can only change the nickname of a traded Pokemon if it hasn't already been named.

I'm behind you, but I'm with you.

I know there are some questionable decisions (particularly in the competitive scene), but as a stand alone Pokemon adventure? This thing is fantastic so far.

I was probably as skeptical as most on the dynamaxing stuff in particular, but damn if it isn't fun.

Caved and bought it. Enjoying it so far but it's a little amusing that a good chunk of the new pokemon I was interested in are in the very beginning.

The computer Pokémon for Dynamaxing are just awful. Every single time mine barely has taken damage and has dished out far and away the most but I lose cause they faint 4 times.

I hope I get this kind of luck. I want that new Zigzagoon form shiny. Most shinies in this one look dull but that one is wild.

So I think I’m taking abit to long to move through this game. I am over 5 hours in and just got to the cave after route 3. My issue is I already have a level 20, which without my first badge yet, it’s not gonna listen to me once it hits 21.
If that’s true, half my squad is gonna stop listening by the time I leave the cave. Leveling is wayyy to easy

No. A lot of people are putting up junk because they are early in the game and it is all they have. I've done probably 40 of them and have been somewhat fortunate. I've recieved a level 1 Scorbunny and also a level 1 Farfetch'd and this is especially great since I bought shield..

Are you connected to the internet? When I first tried a surprise trade nothing happened. I realized I had to click the + on my switch to connect to the internet (once in the trade menu). Since then I've never had one take more than 20-30 seconds.

Reddit as a community has been incredibly toxic toward this game and pretty often toward anyone supporting the game. It's a hivemind but it includes tens of thousands of people.

Everywhere else seems generally positive, but not super hyped or anything like that.

It is a good game and this is coming from someone whose last few pokemon titles include: Lets Go: Pikachu, SoulSilver, Emerald and Crystal

I wish they would tone down the cheese factor a little bit. That is really my biggest complaint about this game and the biggest miss. When I went to gamestop on Friday to pick up my copy, it was 4:30 pm and there was still a line out the door for people picking up pokemon. There was one kid that was somewhere between 8-10. All others in that line had ages ranging from 16 - 40+, with most in their 20's and 30's. I find some of the stuff in the game to be so childish it is cringe worthy and while I try to remind myself what game I am playing, I do feel like there is an opportunity for Nintendo/GameFreak to maybe bring an iota more of maturity to the next title.

Overall, as of right now I'd probably give it an 8/10.

I think the disobey thing only triggers on Pokemon received in a trade.

It can happen with any pokemon that’s too high of a level, but it’s far more common with Pokemon who aren’t friendly with the trainer (e.g. Pokemon received from trades).

It shouldn’t really be much of an issue unless someone is planning to train to levels 30+ before the first gym (which sounds painfully annoying without any hiccups).

You don't get surf, you just get an upgrade to your bike after I think the 6th gym that allows you to go on water with it.
