So they cut loads of corners to save money on a main game installment for the literal single most profitable individual intellectual property in human history?

Neat.
In all honesty, Gamefreak isn't that big of a studio compared to those that generally put out AAA titles. I really think it's time, for a franchise that profitable and that big, that GameFreak teams up with another studio.

That being said, seeing the #gamefreaklied movement... That's really bad if they indeed just re-used old models, and the reason many got cut out is - just a rumor i've seen floating around - that they f'd up porting them to the switch.

My experience with Pokémon is like two episodes of the anime and a half hour of I think the first or second generation of the game on a computer ROM, but it is kind of ridiculous that they'd use the small studio excuse when the franchise as a whole across all methods of making money is likely about to pass its one hundred billionth dollar earned.

And a huge Nintendo fanboy that I like is Arlo, and while his whole shtick is an act, you can tell he's really disappointed at the whole situation and from the apparent fact that the company just flat out lied.

So, you have an IP that is the literal most valuable entertainment property ever and you are still reusing assets and you still can't meet the basic franchise expectation to catch 'em all?

Especially considering that Nintendo hit it out of the park with their other tent pole franchises with Odyssey and BotW, flopping out the gate quality-wise with this is hardly a good look.

Question: Sun and Moon didn't have the National Dex either. Why is the lack of a National Dex a big deal for Sword/Shield?

Arlo is a fanboy that very frequently criticizes Nintendo.

And man I just simply do not care about most of the Pokémon in the series so the fact that half of them are missing is just whatever to me.

I’ll still play the game and have fun with it, people will always find something to complain about. Pokémon being a “lazy” franchise has been a thing for over a decade and people are just discovering this now?

I made an extra Nintendo account and switched the region to Australia so I could play shield early lol. I pre ordered the double pack too so I can have the physical copies for both.

I don’t even care about that #gamefreaklied hashtag. I have every pokemon already, 400+ is more than enough for me.

Anyone want to battle on usum by any chance?

I just preordered the Shield version cause I like the Ponyta and Larvitar lines and I kind of like the legendary more. Will be interesting to see how much I end up playing.

They don't have to because the franchise was never great.

They don't have to because Pokemon Go will continue to make a million times more money than a console game.

The Dex controversy isn’t about the fact that they cut out a ton of people’s favourite Pokémon from being playable, it’s that they did that and didn’t meaningfully improve the series on console despite it being double the price.

Wow, I already got my first shiny and I'm not even at the first gym. Not sure if I'm really lucky, or if the rate has been increased a lot.

Just got home and downloading now.

Honestly, this is the first Pokemon game where I go without knowing much at all.

Same rate
That's crazy luck for me then. Don't think I've ever gotten a full odds shiny this early in a game. It is a Chewtle, I'm pretty sure it evolves into Drednaw, which is one of my favourite designs so far.

So far I've really liked the new Pokemon designs. Hopefully I can get through most of the story this weekend.

I've had a lot of doubts. Honestly, is it worth picking up?
I’m only a few hours in and not even at my first gym and it’s fun so far. The Dynamaxing isn’t as bad as it seemed and is actually kind of cool. I’ve already beaten two.

basically Dynamaxing is a fun and a little bit harder way to catch rare Pokémon.

Tfw never caught a wild shiny in my life

I've played a lot of Pokemon over the years, and only caught one in the wild that I remember - it was a shiny Bellsprout back in Silver, and I'm pretty sure I traded it to the NPC for an Onix.

Well, snap. I guess maybe I will give it a shot.
My early impressions line up with his as well. The wild area seems really fun, the designs are interesting but quite different, and just overall I think the complaints have been overstated as a result of people being upset about the whole dexit situation. I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Yeah I mean I’m in the first wild area and been able to spend an hour or so in it without being bored. I like being able to see what pokemon are in the tall grass too so I can avoid them if I want. Complaints have definitely been overstated but so far so good. Now I haven’t encountered Team Shout and that might ruin everything.

I had to force myself to move on from the wild area because I did want to find more new Pokemon. I'm looking forward to coming back to it to see what it all offers.

Honestly, the fact that dynamaxing isn't that bad is a big win for me. That was my major concern. Well, that and I feel like my wife my dock me a few man points if she sees Team Shout.

I haven't played a Pokemon game since the Gameboy so I'm pretty excited to play this today. I don't even understand what people are criticizing already. Dynamaxing and National Dex? Man I'm old.
