Playoff Keefe

I "liked" Keefe but the second I heard him scoff at the idea of line matching the top line he completely lost me. Like that's literally one of your biggest jobs in the playoffs and you're just going to leave it up to faith?!! Don't be so f***ing lazy (and arrogant I might add again) and do your job. What's the point of winning the division if you're not going to take advantage of literally the only advantage you have? And for the 8 billionth time -- the power play?! Are you f***ing kidding me? Keefe isn't the guy man. It sucks that he has such a long history with Dubas because we're definitely stuck with him.

Just to add to the same point; I "liked" Dubas too but he's treading in the same waters of running out the same shit over and over.

Effing eh.

He got outcoached in the playoffs
And it was by his own stupidity.

First he announces his strategy right before the playoffs on not worrying about line matching his top line. A dumb strategy but he announces it to the media right off the bat anyway. Doesn't make any adjustments in the series. Even the most basic hockey person could assume having two 11M dollar players driving separate lines might not be such a bad idea at least to try. Doesn't motivate his team in 3 straight series-clinching games to start on time. And hell even after he loses the playoffs still thinks he did nothing wrong and thinks it was just bad luck that he lost.

Just a horrible playoff coach.

Both Dubas and Keefe would do well to shut their mouths going forward with these types of quotes. Both have a tendency to telegraph their thoughts and come off as very arrogant with them, such as Dubas’ "we can and we will" or Keefe's "we're not afraid to line match anyone." Like I see what they're trying to do, show confidence in their abilities, players, and organization as a whole, but it really doesn't come off well and I don't think any of these quotes look good in hindsight. Just keep it simple, next time Keefe is coaching a playoff series (if he even gets that far next season) just give a generic non-answer, don't blow smoke up the ass of your un-clutch players or give the opposition bulletin board material.

Don't forget Keefe also panicked with a coaches challenge after the Leafs got scored on in Game 6 which laid the ground work for their demise. It was 1-0 and we the Leafs are built on offense. If the Leafs hadn't gifted Montreal the PP, and then Marner hadn't been put into a position to put them down 5-3 on the PK and eventually spot Montreal a 2-0 lead, the Leafs could have reasonably gone on to a 2-1 win.

So much low composure, horrible tactical work coming out of a guy who has no experience and doesn't seem to be a natural motivator.

Marner and Matthews weren't even eligible to be extended until the day Tavares signed. You think Tavares was just going to wait around all summer for the Leafs to negotiate with Marner and Matthews?

If he didn’t the sharks could have him…let’s be honest here JT was in it for more than just money (though 11M/per is a really nice incentive lol)

Weren't Jon Cooper and Steve Yzerman hired without NHL experience?

Probably.

Toronto did start with good intentions:

Experience coach (Babs), GM (Lou), followed by Hunter/Dubas.

It just hasn't worked out so far in terms of playoff success.

Keefe is as qualified as anyone would.

So far he hasn't proven to be good though.

Tempa drafted really well and they had good contracts

John Cooper also adjusted really well after being swept by Columbus

It also helps he has a franchise goalie franchise D and a franchise center

Partly like how Marc Crawford Inherited a avalanche

It shows you how bad Keefe is in adjusting. Its almost like he learned nothing

Also noting Brisebois didn't go out there and picked up every veteran he could find. They gave their rookies and young players opportunities

We had Anderson and Robertson seating in bench while Joe and Simmonds playing. Who brought nothing

We lost our depth ever since we traded Kadri and Kapanen. Even Jhknsson I would say

I liked keefe I really did. I thought he ws open to new things, playing the stars more etc
But his failure to adapt in anyway whatsoever against the Habs, and not breaking up AM and MM, not switching up the PP, rolling Joe out there constantly - he'd be fired in most other cities.

The Leafs are the richest team in the league and Keefe is the worst coach in the league.

Unfortunately not much more to talk about. It sucks.
