Playoff Keefe

Small sample size, but so far this guy is easily the worst playoff coach I've ever seen for the Leafs.

He adjusts to nothing, fixes nothing. His team has got and held a lead only once in 6 games and if it wasn't for one of the most miraculous comebacks in history their record would be 1-5.

His presence actively hurt the team tonight by overusing Jumbo, something that was called out way before it actually cost us the GWG.
I'm a bit surprised that there isn't more focus on this issue on the Leafs board this offseason. Keefe was so useless as a coach in the playoffs it has to be addressed for the Leafs to take the next step. A good coach is something there is no excuse for Dubas to be without yet that seems to be the situation. I understand the logic that he's learning on the job, but when your initial instincts as a coach are to freeze your roster in terror and keep doing the same thing even when its not working then you aren't worth the growing pains. Can the Leafs afford to keep this clown?

People will show his record and imply that it makes him a good or even excellent coach but really, anybody can see the errors and inexperience that has come out in the playoffs when it counts most. I have a feeling he will actually be a really good coach some day and even now he seems to keep a decent system with an upbeat group of players. I don’t think this team is really deep enough though to have a weakness in key spots, especially coaching. You need to be elite almost everywhere in the organization to be a contender (and before someone mentions Montreal, they obviously lost in 5 to bolts so not really a contender). I really hope to god I eat crow on Sheldon Keefe. I feel like with a few better decisions, he alone could have been the difference in that first round.

With limited options to improve the team, I think Dubas is foolish to ignore this obvious area where the club could improve. There is no cap restrictions on coaches and there's money to burn on a good one. Go get one, this home grown mid season replacement we have now has no guts. He's too afraid to make a mistake to do anything to help.

And when he does make a bold move it’s completely illogical. Loading up the 1st line against CBJ and having Nylander play C for the first time all season comes to mind. Horrible moves

The only thing I can say is that if TOR starts the season playing sub 500 then he might get let go. Maybe?

Also added AJ back to the roster in that do or die game after him not playing for 5-6 months. Asinine.

Can you just list his bad decisions? Pretty much all I see is someone saying "Keefe is bad" then the next person saying "Ya!".

There were examples in 2 of 3 posts just above yours.

Two posts directly contradict each other.

"Go get one, this home grown mid season replacement we have now has no guts. He's too afraid to make a mistake to do anything to help."

then complaining about the fact he makes dumb crazy decisions...

you just complain about nonsense, two series in a row the team outplayed the other team but had no finish, that doesn't fall on the coach.

Also, AJ had the best chance of the game when he came back

Keefe sofar is a fairweather coach.
His system is more suited for the players and current NHL, but he panics when the going get tough.
Throwing AJ and Nash in the playoffs when they have not played in a while is really stupid.
Getting Sandin in(which I understand) when you have the other team on the ropes is strange but if they won, it would be a smart move.
Not playing Gally-AF-Willie more when they seem to be the only line that produces offence is stupid, as I think any coaches would always play the players with the extra jump.
Sticking with the PP for like 40games was inexcusable.

It does when Keefe makes it that easy for the opposing coach to construct a game plan to mostly contain the Leafs' offensive weapons and never have to deviate from it.

Hell, he made it even easier for Tortorella in Game 5 as @Stonehands1990 pointed out.

At least it's unlikely that Keefe will be out-coached by another under .500 1st round opponent in the Spring of 2022.

Here is a refresher on some of the goaltending Toronto faced in that 5 game series.

You must have a very short memory if you think it was easy to contain the Leafs offense, Korpisalo was amazing in that series.

Yes those were 4 very nice saves against the Leafs. Imagine running into good goaltending in the post season. Such hard luck for the boys.

Edit....Just remembered. Korpisalo got yanked in Game 3 and didn't even play in Game 4 So, yeah.

The 'expected unluckyness' is off the charts with this team.
