I really think the Leafs need Knies upfront. You cant just trade for those guys, playoff grit. I'm fine offering in Sandin or Liljegren plus Robertson.

We would then have Chychrun,Liljegren and Niemela as three young Dmen to build around.

Somehow I think that's not possible

Trading Liljegren is insane. He's one of our most untouchable players. Sandin, sure.

Muzzin and Holl have had a couple pretty good games. Maybe it's best to just keep these two and see if they can keep it up.

Few options I suppose. Need Brodie with Rielly to make up for the latter's defensive deficiencies, and perhaps with Giordano-Sandin pairing Leafs are hoping Mark can do for Rasmus what he did for Lilly last season.

Injury prone players gettin hurt again..

More bad luck i guess..

Did that look like a normal injury to anyone else?

Or was that a case of a player who has been dealing with back / neck injuries for quite a while now, tweaking something new?

Hockey isn't even in my thoughts right now - really hope that Muzzin is alright and that he can focus on living a long, healthy and happy life outside of the game when he decided to hang them up. That body has gone through a lot of heavy miles, and he's had a few really tough injuries since he came to this team.

Not being able to start camp should have been the first major red flag.

Dude played some seriously hard minutes with LA, a team that demanded maximum physicality from their players. And they went deep in the playoffs with Muzzin right in the thick of it.

If they have a backup plan for what was inevitable to a lot of us here, now is the time to start unfolding it.

Muzzin's been a warrior for sure, and he basically was our D, when he was healthy. You look at the situation, and you really do wonder if he's done. I have no idea how we replace him in the lineup.

For him to be effective, he has to play certain way. With the injuries he sustained, not sure if he can do that on a nightly basis

It's time to start planning for days without Muzzin and look for a potential replacement

Jake Muzzin looks done as a player, and that was before this injury. At this point he should seriously consider what these serious injuries will have on his post-NHL life, and whether it is wise to continue battering his body the way it is being done.

Feel for Muzzin, love his style. We need more players like him.

What's frustrating is how obvious this was last season and it needed to be addressed this past off-season. Unless a major move is made, the leafs now have the softest D core in the league without Muzzin.

He got an elbow to the face so typical injury i think

Kudos to those who said Muzzin's deal would look good for the first two years, and his style of play would dictate he would decline rapidly in the final two years making him almost dead cap space. Good call.

Like I said we should have given him a 2 year 8M AAV deal which was his market in 2020 .. but Dubie wanted to spread over 4 years to lower AAV so he could fit in other players .. everyone knew what was coming .. now that he has no trade value it is LTIR time and hope he can give us 1 more playoff run

he had a steep decline last year after subtly sliding from his peak LA days
