It’s not a retool or rebuild that the Kings are in need of and marginally performing. It’s a reversioning which is needed. The organization is basically in place, so a true rebuild is unnecessary. A retool would imply plugging a few strategic holes. Problem is, with last place teams, there are numerous holes and leaky parts.

The only hope is to take what is mostly in place and attempt to change the style of play to match what the younger players need to be capable of. Over the course of a season, you want those younger guys to grow at the nhl level. As long as they’re not rotating through the lineup, they should improve, even if the team goes on losing streaks.

At least one heavy salary vet needs to be on IR at any time. Hard practices need to force Carter, et. al. to miss road trips. Every avenue needs to be explored to give minutes to hungry youth, and generate competitive juices among the checked out stars. The only place motivation can come from and be effective is that locker room.

With the rumours of Marleau being interested in LA and Toronto needing to move him for cap reasons, I find it an interesting scenario where we could add young talent by taking on his salary for a year with a big sweetner for very reasonable ask.

With the Leafs not having their picks, Kapanen and Kadri are being pushed hard in the trade market.

Marleau + Kadri for?
Marleau + Kapanen for?

One way to add a nice 22-28 year old highly skilled piece without giving up a ton either.

Who does LA lose to Seattle?

Forbort? Quick?
Two journalists predicted Campbell in the most recent athletic mock draft. I just dont see how we would keep Cal down that long.. maybe a forward, some of the guys who could be breakout players for us up front will require protection.

Last I heard talks fizzled after LA refused to do it without sending salary back. Also, Marleau is now rumored to only want to go back to San Jose which means we'd have to buy him out, which would be more expensive...

Mayor said he thinks LA will talk with Perry. Possible bonus laden million dollar contract.
Perry could stay in the area and has friends on the Kings.

Pretty much what has been speculated on here.

I can’t see it as part of the “plan” tho. Seems counterintuitive.

It wouldn't be counterintuitive, unless they couldn't get rid of another winger. They easily have 13F as of right now, with a few extra ready to be called up. With Ontario down the street, they might only carry 13F, like they did for much of last year. If someone needs Lewis starting October, then fine, bring in Perry as a warm body to replace him until the deadline.

Another slow 30+ winger who has dipped significantly in production? Sounds like a perfect fit!

Behold The Plan

The Plan | 2019 LA Kings Offseason

Dear LA Kings fans,
I wanted to take the time to give you a clear sense of where we are headed in the coming months as we prepare, not only for the 2019-20 NHL season, but in our efforts to re-create the LA Kings franchise. The primary goal of our plan is to construct our roster and reserve list into one that will be competing for annual Stanley Cup Championships.

As we begin to enter a new era, one of Rob Blake's goals has been to develop the best prospect pool in the NHL. This has been initiated by Rob and his staff throughout the past two seasons, and the 2019 NHL Draft will be our next opportunity to add more players into our promising system. We hold three of the first 33 selections, 10 total, in what is a deep pool of talent - including the 5th overall pick. This phase of our plan leans heavily on the tireless and detailed efforts of our scouting team. As of late, their focus has been identifying the most dynamic young talent available in this year's draft and placing them into the hands of our proven player development team so they can help mold them into our LA Kings of tomorrow.

The other key step in the process has been identifying and hiring the best head coach for our team and we are excited that Todd McLellan will guide our team forward. You will be hearing directly from Todd in the coming weeks.

This is a growth plan and it's something our organization has successfully done before.
As our reserve list continues to grow, it will be an exciting time to watch these young men develop into players who will become the new faces of the LA Kings. You have already seen a handful of these players this past season, each showing signs of what they can do at the NHL level. We anticipate our next wave of prospects to grow under the watchful eye of our proven development staff. In addition to their day-to-day experience, their growth and ability to not only reach the NHL, but excel at the highest level, hinges on the right coach and the right veterans to guide them and teach them what it means to become champions once again.
Lastly, I want to thank you for your undying commitment and continued support to this team and we look forward to seeing you this summer at our LA Kings Draft Party, Development Camp and State of the Franchise.
Go Kings Go!

Not sure about calling CJ, Muzz and OD the right people in charge of player development. What you hope is they don’t Aki Berg our fifth OA pick.

Also will be interesting to read into any vets who get traded to see if they were the wrong kind of guys for where this team is at.

Finally, that’s not a very detailed plan, but it does lead me to believe there will be significant changes in player usage and deployment which will be skewed towards youth. Given the lack of trade rights and salary baggage, that’s the best you can realistically hope for.

Well, so much for the re-tool. I think there has been some speculation in the past regarding Lombardi's influence in draft selections and taking his type of player over perhaps another player preferred by the scouting staff. It's going to be interesting to see how the kids selected the last year and the next few years pan out.

Won’t he be a free agent?

I think he would mesh well with Kopi and Brown honestly. Would need to move one or two of Lewis/Carter/Toffoli/Kovy tho. Lewis would be the easiest probably. Maybe TT. Kings aren’t going for it this year so why bother. Unless they are thinking playoffs if somehow the planets align.

Next years draft is ******edly deep , I wish Toronto’s pick was next years . Until 20+ ranking prospects are close to a PPG this year and some even above PPG. There is elite and superstar talent throughout the first round . I hope we get top 3 pick! Can’t go wrong with either

There's still time. Toronto isn't getting any takers on Marleau. Blake has a lot of leverage here.

Re-create, not rebuild/tool.

Lol. Semantics. Nobody likes the rebuild word.

It will be a re-imagination of the roster next year hahaha.

Basically, he just told us they aren't a contender and they won't be adding impact veterans. This has been evident for months.

Some (at least one) still doesn't get it.
