How many players with monster UFA contracts have won a cup over the last 10 years? In fact, how many monster contracts handed out to a player by his own team over the last 10 years have led to that player lifting the cup again?

I never said you have to pick in the top 5. You're likely to get better players drafting in the top 5. You limited your question to the last five years. I tell you what, why don't you go through the Chicago and Los Angeles cup-winning rosters and tell us how many first round picks (not just from their own organization) are on the roster. Then tell us how many of those arrived via a free agent signing a long-term, big money contract.

I believe I said the last 10 years

Yep, that's three, and two teams. Not many when you compare it to the rest of the Stanley Cup winners. Additionally, I would argue that once Crosby and Malkin did it again, Crosby's cap hit was far below market value, and in those two guys you are talking about generational talents. I don't think the same can be said about any upcoming UFAs.

Ok, last ten. Why don't you go answer my question first regarding how many first round draft picks were on the LA and Chicago cup-winning rosters.

It isn't going to support your argument.

But you’re not advocating just “1st round picks”. You want the team to be as bad as possible for the next 3-5 years or however long it takes. That’s Buffalo. Look through all my post. I’ve NEVEr advocated trading ANY picks or prospects. I’ve advocated getting younger and improving the team at the same time. You’re on record as supporting Blake to throw “landmines” in the path of the team to make them as bad as possible. That is very extreme.

Yes, I advocate moving guys on whose best days are behind them while they still have value, since they aren't going to win jack anymore playing on the Kings roster. You acquire as many young assets as possible, have some vets to teach them how to be pros, and when the time seems right you go for it by moving some of the assets you have stockpiled.

I said banana peels. Moving Muzzin, a guy with only this year remaining on his contract, is a banana peel for this year's team. Moving Martinez would be another banana peel. Anyone moved isn't going to be here when the Kings contend again.

I am friends with a former Kings employee who told me the main guys are phoning it in. He follows their training routines and said it’s been a joke the past few seasons.

So who's fault is that? Is there nobody managing these guys? I call bullshit...

If I was paying my employees millions of dollars and they were 'phoning it in'...we'd have one big f***ing problem.

I'm a manager, my guys only get paid $21/hour....they'd be looking for new jobs if I had that problem.

Tom-

AEG isn't spending money on this roster for 2020. Their big signing was the coach. Price freeze for two years on season seats if you renewed. They are tired of spending money on losers. The bottom fell out last season and they know that they can't just sign some big-dollar UFA and expect things to be good.

Kovy was an extra $6MM for them to fork out for a horrible season. They are on board with taking a chill pill for this season.

That’s been obvious for the past several years. They play like they don’t care.

Yeah, I don't think it takes an expert to realize that the top guys aren't at their physical peak. It's pretty disappointing to see that they've taken their foot off the gas. Doughty's remarks especially were discouraging that he's essentially won two cups, earned his fat paycheck, and happy to ride it out it in sunny LA wherever it may go into the sunset. That was an absolutely brutal interview. We all love Drew, and I get it, if I were in his shoes I dunno if I'd go all Jagr and reach for the stars either, but that was crushing to hear.

The irony is that they are guaranteeing that they will be paying for losers for he foreseeable future. Cutting off their nose to spite their face. Sad but ironic

11 and 8 and 23 are going nowhere for the next 4 years +. Thats the biggest banana peel there is for an organization intent on rebuilding from scratch.

Fine, let those guys stick around. There isn't much Blake can do about them except constantly offer Brown and Kopitar to teams who are on their list of teams to which they cannot refuse a trade. In the meantime you gut the rest of it and get on with the business of building a new, young competitive roster.

And to close the loop, getting a 27 year old star for no assets other than affordable cap space can’t be part of that? Amazing.

I don't think we will be signing any big name free agents until Kovy comes off the books. Same year as the expansion draft, hopefully we leave another fat contract exposed and selected.
I'll be happy if we sign Jordie Benn for depth on D just to ease in the kids and replace Martinez when he is out injured or traded.

I've been saying this for a long time now. These guys need to be held accountable and the team needs to forget about the Cups. That era is long gone. The new era should be called the bag skate era.

He specially mentioned Brown’s training this summer currently. But, i would argue Brown is the least of the big salary problems. He has been good ever since Sutter left.

Carter, Quick, Kopitar, Martinez, Doughty, Forbort....

You can't fire me, because you were stupid enough to give me an 8-year contract with a NMC. :)

Close what loop? The loop to the 9th place in the conference? Awesome, and all Blake has to do is pay the Panarin $63M over 7 years. It's okay though because for the first 3-4 years of his deal when the Kings are spinning their wheels, they can look forward to him still being in his prime at 32 years of age.

It could happen. I want to believe!!

Doughty will get sick of it and demand a trade in a couple of seasons.

Honestly doubt it . He has two cups , he’s getting paid good lives on the beach in LA has a private life that he can enjoy , everyone wants to be in LA . I think he will be just fine . Plus I just know we are going to win 1 more cup before he retires

I've been there when Brown works out. The last thing you could say he does is phone it in. He's always in the best shape. Kopitar and Doughty? I can fully see it
