He was never going to be that here. Its more on him at this point than the Pens/Ducks for letting him go.

That was tongue in cheek on account of people praying to the altar of/60, but Sprong has nearly always produced well with the minutes he got.

Hyman, Hyman, Hyman, HYMAN

Gimme Hyman for Geno+Kap and someone like Laughton for McCann+Carter on the 3rd line. Zucker out, Petts out, one to Seattle and the other in a trade. Let ZAR walk. Re-sign Ceci and E-Rod if they're willing to be reasonable about their next deal instead of going for the cash/term on the open market (they're going to the open market).

Games like these past few against the Caps and Bruins would be so much different.

@Gurglesons These last few games definitely give me pause when it comes to retaining Rust and perpetuating GCR.

I know he's looked good at center so far, but I think Carter might be a better option on that RW once everyone is back. He does a lot of the things Sid and Jake want their RW to do (defensively responsible, forecheck, get open to finish off passes) but probably thinks the game at a slightly higher level than Rust.

I'm not writing off Rust at 1RW because I think he generally works with Sid, but when they're on a run like the last few games, throwing Carter up there wouldn't be the worst idea.

So

GC-Carter
McCann/Rust-Malkin-Kapanen
Zucker-McCann/Blueger-Rust/ERod
ZAR-Blueger/Gaudreau-Tanev

?

Carter has been too good at C for us to move.

Yeah, I think that just confirmed the initial instinct all along to slide McCann back with Malkin and Kap. It was a really limited sample size, but numbers and eye test, that trio was damn good. Of course, so were McCann-Malkin-Rust until McCann went cold. Hopefully, it's different with him now . . . not sating he won't have downs, just that he'll avoid the froze off my fingers type of cold that you've seen with him in the past.
